  • Around 100 hours on newer, performance Sea-Doos, and on a periodic basis on older models, the supercharger clutch slipping moment needs to be checked. If it's not within range, the supercharger needs to be rebuilt, or engine performance could be dramatically affected. This how-to video goes through the steps involved in checking the slipping moment of the supercharger clutch on a 2012 Sea-Doo GTR 215.

    Is there a way to check without tools? Saw a ‘finger method’ on a forum. Would you reckon that would work?

    Hello 3ftDeep and other TH-camrs.
    I'm going to look at a Seadoo rxp 215 for sale.
    What are some key things to inspect and make sure are functional.
    its at 120 hrs, for sure send the supercharger to be rebuilt. Do a compression test, ideally what should compression be at? (does it change from hot to cold)

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Inspect the intake grate for damage, and look through it to check the impeller and wear ring for damage (use a flashlight). There shouldn't be more than a millimetre or so between the edge of the wear ring and the impeller. Check the pump for damage, and also look for rust. Make sure the engine compartment is well-maintained, and that the engine runs. Check the steering for free play. Seat repair can be expensive, so make sure there no tears that can't be easily repaired. Check the oil dipstick for any "milky" coloration or other residues. Also check the oil fill cap for same. Check motor mounts (if you can see them) for cracking or flaking. Check the computer gauge for all functions. For compression, S/C models should be around 120 to 130 psi, non S/C will be a little higher. The most important thing is that they're all about the same reading (+/- about 10%). Also, check out the PWC Show's TH-cam video on buying a used PWC ...th-cam.com/video/YDUnUVV9IbQ/w-d-xo.html. Good luck!

    • @3ftDeepChannel
      @3ftDeepChannel  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We have a number of different types of torque wrenches, each with different torque ranges (i.e. some delicate ones, some more robust). So the answer is "yes" if your torque wrench accurately reads within the range you're using it. In other words, you don't want to torque to 8nm if the range of your torque wrench is 5Nm o 200 Nm. You should use one that has a range of 1 Nm to 20 Nm, for example. You also need to ensure you're following a service manual very carefully, as many stretch bolts require a torque, followed by an additional turn to a certain degree. Good luck!

      If you're committed to your 2004, then that's what I'd do. The problem is that it is an older machine, and parts are expensive. I see boats very differently than cars. If my car breaks down I can pull over to the side of the road, get ticked off and call someone to come get me and tow it home. If my boat has an issue 25 miles from shore, that's a different story... For that reason I would never keep a boat (that I hadn't been constantly maintaining) that was over 15 years old. Actually, my rule is closer to 10 years old. If you ride in safe places, and have confidence in the integrity of the rest of the machine (electrical components, for example) and are committed to keeping it running well, then you could consider rebuilding the engine (we wouldn't buy one, as it's much more fun and satisfying to rebuild them). First, I'd pull the engine and take it apart and see what shape it's in. If it's in decent shape, I'd rebuild it. If not (and you are sure you're going to keep it), then I'd buy another engine. I wouldn't bother trying to increase the HP though. We found that the best way to increase HP in used machines is to just replace the wear ring in the pump. Just a little wear on those can cause you to lose a lot of HP. Also, a damaged impeller (that can be fixed by Impros) can also cause you to lose a lot of HP. Check those things out, first. That's what we'd do. Good luck!

      The easiest way is to jam a broom handle in the impeller to stop it from turning, and then check the slip of the supercharger. I like to show the official steps, though.
