    Hi Cosmo! You are exactly right about USB ports....my trailer came with the old USB A standard plugs. I swapped the factory outlets for new ones with the fast charge/power delivery type c plugs fairly easy....in hindsight I should have put in units without the voltage readout though...the light is bothersome at night so I taped over it LOL. I say go with a plain jane base model of RV without all the bells and whistles and add on the stuff you want later....

    Good point about USBs. Better to have a power strip with whatever ports you need.
    On the other hand, if you have a few bells and whistles, Internet-and-computing-wise, you can spend weeks at a time working in beautiful places, if you had the work-remote option. I used to do written preps in the summer, for fall lectures up on the Lochsa River in Idaho. Spend 2 or 3 weeks at a stretch. Fishing twice a day. Chess when my buddy was around. Writing proofs and lessons the rest of the time, in a relict temperate rain forest.
    Had an 11x11 Hillary wall/dome hybrid that made a great summer office in the woods, with wall-to-wall screens all around, but plenty rugged enough for the worst storms. May on the Lochsa is wet and cold, fit only for rafters, kayakers, and other masochists, who either embrace being cold and wet or - in my case - have the right gear to keep them warm and dry. I always liked camping in bad weather, because you'd have the woods to yourself. Being out in it is about having the right clothing.
    I think I look at these teardrops differently. I'm used to camping with tents out of a loaded-up pickup truck. So my idea of the tools and toys I'd take if you added a little trailer in back is a lot different than what I see. Sound system? That little trailer means I can take my Bose tower, bass unit, 4 mics and mic stands, and an amp or three, in case somebody shows up with their guitar and we have the place to ourselves.
    I see the pop-up shelter, but if I've got the extra cargo room even an itsy-bitsy trailer would add, I'm packing one or two Endeavor EZ-Ups, with a camp cube and/or a work cube.
    I don't know about your brand of teardrop, but companies in Colorado and Oregon make insulated models, and heating requirements are minimal. The Propex system doesn't introduce any exhaust into the compartment like a lantern would but if you hang a gas (kerosene, coleman fuel or propane) lantern under a vent, I think it'd warm up that little space just fine. I don't think the Vistabule is very insulated, especially with the window that ya gotta love. I think it's more of a 3-season setup that you can stretch to 4, if you follow Cosmo.

      I love work camping. I returned from a week off grid working in a state park. During the week I am the only one in the park! Love it. I have a list of internet accessible places to camp. I do winter camp in my Vistabule. Its heated. Luxury compared to a tent. I even camped in a blizzard.th-cam.com/video/bVj8T1ronQs/w-d-xo.html Regards =Cosmo

    We have a microwave in our trailer and it's great. We store all the paper plates and plastic utensils in there. The one day in 50 we want to use the microwave as intended we take them out.
    Good call on the 12 volt outlets. I installed 4 total by splicing into the nearby light wires. Old incandescent lights will often be on a 10-15 amp fuse so just change out the lights for LED and there is good power to run lots of 12 volt stuff on the circuit. Incandescent bulbs use a surprising amount of power, first things that should go if you are running solar and batteries.

    • @CosmoWeems
      @CosmoWeems  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Not only do they drain the battery, I prefer it dark at night. Would also be unlikely to pay for air conditioning. Just doesn’t get super-hot often enough where I live.

    • @CosmoWeems

      Hello Michale. My trailer was one of the few Vistabule built using coated Airstream aluminum. Airstream stopped supplying the aluminum so now Vistabule uses a different product. So far I have done nothing byt wash the trailer. Bare aluminum needs lots of care. I am not sure what needs to be done fore bare aluminum. Thanks Cosmo, always appreciate the insight in your videos! I think this is an interesting topic, I would appreciate hearing your own opinions on the necessity of the more expensive and higher maintenance teardrop options. For example, do you feel that fresh water and a sink are must haves or would you consider alternatives? Built-in stove? Rooftop solar? Lithium? Built-in propane heater or AC? I remember that you felt a fridge was an important upgrade, still feel that way? If you were to build a new Vistabule, is there anything major you would change?
    As someone who has done mostly backpacking, I wonder if a simple, barebones set-up is really all I need from the teardrop but I'm worried that I'm missing the point of what the teardrop can provide.

      Hi Doug. Just came back from 10 days on the road. Will respond when unpacked! =Cosmo

    • @CosmoWeems
      @CosmoWeems  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Hi Doug. Sink built in water, electric water pump, Solar, Lithium, Heat etc. are all personal preferences. None are a requirement. Up till the purchase of my trailer I only slept in a tent or less. When I decided on a hard sided teardrop I decided to build in comfort and convenience because I would be staying out a week at a time or much longer. I wanted to camp in deep winter and heat was a later add on for me. I love it. I have slept with no heat and heat. I prefer heat. It’s a heated vacation home in the worst temps. Cold camping ruled out lithium for my rig. People who camp in above freezing love lithium. I am happy with wet cell batteries with can function in very cold weather. I use moveable solar panels because the sun moves changing the shadows of the trees. Starting over I would get roof and moveable. Depends if your only shadow is a cactus or a forest. The fridge allows me to stay off grid for as long as I like. I needed to replace ice every few days. I prefer to stay in the woods. You can go bare bones and build out as needed. Put yourself in the trailer on the trip and ask do I need a sink or will a washtub or two work? Do that for everything else and I hope you will have your answer. If I can help - let me know. =Cosmo 𝕋𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕜 𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕨𝕒𝕥𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘! ✅ Check my other videos th-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos

    I’m shopping for one. Also considering other trailers, like one of the Bean and Boreas. Wish more people and Vistabule posted videos with current Vistabule trailers. Thinking they’ve changed since you bought yours. Thank you!

      This visit was 3 yrs ago and shows many updates to the trailer. There have been internal (electrical) improvements such as solar controller. Not much on the body an interior. I mean LED lighting is evolving etc. One great thing about a Vistabule is it can be upgraded later. For instance if you purchase it without air conditioning or heat, you can get that added later. Picking a trailer is all about what suits your needs. Mentally put yourself in the trailer kitchen and start cooking. If its not in use its in your way with a teardrop. I have some good info coming late in Nov. Also there is a Vistabule facebook group on Facebook where you can get other input and photos. I would be happy to help you (objectively) in January. =Cosmo

    a standard 12v outlet is all that is needed and use the plug ins for USB, he is right, but why not since they are not a huge expense. as far as the rest goes, it is up to the owner, for me it is better to have and not need than to need and not have.

    Correct me if I’m wrong, but didn’t you get an electric heater installed in the Vistabule

    • @CosmoWeems
      @CosmoWeems  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Mike. A built in electric heater was not a good match for me. It made more sense to just calculate the right BTUs and buy one off the shelf. This gives much more flexibility than a built in electric heater. I am off grid most of the time. So Propane made sense for me. However there are times when I have access to grid power when an electric heater makes sense. Here is some input on both electric heat and propane done during a cold snap when temps went down to -5F Electric th-cam.com/video/wsN0PX8LRik/w-d-xo.html Propane th-cam.com/video/9VEBR8fh-Bo/w-d-xo.html Cold weather camping brings lots of other challenges too I have videos on that too!
