    Exactly right Cosmo. Everyone has to evaluate their particular needs and wants.
    For me, I wanted a camper that was small, lightweight, and simple but above all it had to have access for my daughter and her wheelchair.
    I knew I did not want a bathroom, (maintenance) and my daughter wouldn’t be able to use it. I wanted a camper that when loaded with us and our gear would not be over 2,000 lbs. After a year of searching online and inperson I found the perfect one for our needs. A Vymeron by MicroLite out of Elkhart, Indiana.
    It has a ramp (technically it’s a toy hauler) beds, a counter and some storage. Perfect for us.
    I opted not to get the water tanks, (maintenance) so opted out of the sink also the cooktop which gave me more counter space.
    Like you I prefer to have multifunctional items. My cook stove can be used inside when weather is not suitable but we mostly cook outdoors. I mean we are camping after all. I have small folding height adjustable tables, a step stool which can also be used as a seat or side table.
    We have a 6’ clam, again multipurpose, shelter, potty room and extra sleeping space.
    I had solar panels added to the top of the camper which allows us to boondock. The solar also runs both of our 12V coolers while driving and in camp. After a few outings to get the feel of it I made several modifications to better fit her needs and now it’s pretty darn near perfect.
    Thanks for great informative entertaining videos looking forward to many more. God bless.

    We bought our T@G when I retired and I’ll be 66 this year. It was one of the best things we ever purchased... I think we’re packing less and less for our camping trips as we have really honed in on exactly what we need. I’m glad to hear the smaller Jackery kept your fridge going. I love towing small and sleeping cozy. Mid week camping is the best, right!!! I really admire the Vistabule... it’s a wonderful teardrop. Enjoy your summer adventures! ~ Maria

      Hi Maria Nothing beats your endorsement. You are a happy camper! I agree I am taking less and less every trip. Simplicity is good (for me) . You wear 66 well! The Jack worked out great powering the fridge when the car was not driving. Its truly amazing what can be done with very simple gear. I hope to do more alternate modes of camping. But the trailer will hold a special place for simple comfortable living that puts me in touch with mother nature. Regards =Cosmo

      @@CosmoWeems * Hi Cosmo! . Our first stop on our way back north from our camping adventure trip to Austin, Texas and Palm Harbor, FL was Fort McAllister state park in Georgia. We were just there to enjoy a new park and rest up as we made our way back to NYS. Fort McAllister is a nice state park… the Georgia pines there are so very fragrant. When I opened the door to the teardrop in the early morning, the fragrance was amazing.
      I really have to make time to create a video of our trip. It was the longest road trip I’ve ever taken! When we came home, on April 22, it was actually snowing in central NY!

    Very nice to be able to spend so much time out there! A hotel would be a rare species in the wilderness, so a Teardrop wins hands down irrespective of price if that is where one is going 😉. But you're certainly putting both the Teardrop and the Subaru through a lot. I'm surprised they hold up! Thank you for sharing. It keeps the dream alive 😊

      Hi Jo. Yes Trailer was an excellent investment for me. It has paid for itself in money saved at hotels. Hotels around here cost about $150 a night. When I reached 117 nights camping hotel costs equaled the equaled the price of the trailer. I am now over 300 nights. As you point out, the experience of staying in nature is priceless (for me) compared to the forgettable not so pleasant hotel! I have had my fill of hotels from work travel. Nature wins for me even in the foulest weather! Thanks for checking in. =Cosmo 𝕋𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕜 𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕨𝕒𝕥𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘! ✅ Check my other videos th-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos

    Always enjoy your videos Cosmo. You mentioned Over Landing and for the past year I've been most fascinated with that and the van life thing, and or upgraded jeeps with roof top tents ,to me over landing and boondocking is where it's at.myself I don't think I would enjoy a typical campground with lots of other people ,and as far as many of the camping related gadgets you mentioned they really have come on strong over the last few years, anyhow take care and safe travels as always.

    • @CosmoWeems
      @CosmoWeems  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Duane always great to read your posts. We share interest. Overlanding. Soft roading, and hit and run camping are a blast. One channel I enjoy is th-cam.com/users/softroadingthewestvideos I agree its never been easier. Roof tents are a great option for that kind of exploration. Low profile, light weight, easy set up, off the ground, low startup cost (compared to a van or trailer), great fuel economy and more. Add a Jackery and you have electric on tap. I may one day get a roof tent just to try it out. The ones I have seen while camping have very thick walls which is great for weather proofing. My only concern with them is ventilation and condensation. I would want more info on condensation so if you find anything informative please share. The site I made this video at is a state campground. On the weekend its crowded but during the week I have a million dollar view! Hurry up and retire so I can follow your youtube adventures! Not quite ready to commit. Probably a few years out(we are only 44 and 45😆) . But I like the idea of being able to store it in the garage for less cost and keeping it out of PNW weather when not in use. However my husband is 6'3. So I don't know what direction it will take teardrop or Scamp style. I've even eyeballed the AFrame Chalets out of Oregon. However, until that time comes to really make a decision I sure do enjoy your adventures.

    • @CosmoWeems
      @CosmoWeems  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I do off road with this trailer. Its has 10 inches of ground clearance. I know Vistabule offers a 2 inch lift for more clearance. The car has 8.75 inches of ground clearance. This trailer has a Dexter torsion bar axle (which has no dampening) so I take it easy. You can contact Vistabule to see what else they offer. For me this is fine. Often choosing a rig is a compromise. If you really want to go at off roading look at an overlanding trailer. Some come with 21 inches of ground clearance and more but again you will have to compromise on other features. Also 21 inches of ground clearance wont be useful if your car has less ground clearance. Love your vids. Thank you for sharing your journey. Question…why not place your items in the tent and sleep in the car when car camping? I think it’s a much cozier, warmer area and keeps you out of the elements.

      Hi Sugar. Thats a good question. One reason I picked a Subaru Outback is I can actually fit in it and sleep in it. I have slept in it a few times. I like the sounds smells and vibe of sleeping outside. It connects me with nature. I can hear the birds in the morning and the rain on the roof. I agree a car provides more shelter than a tent. My tubs are waterproof so I do not need to worry about the gear. I may do a trip sleeping in the car. 𝕋𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕜 𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕨𝕒𝕥𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘 and contributing to the conversation! =𝓒𝓸𝓼𝓶𝓸 ✅

I am planning on changing the trans fluid at 50K and any other fluids in the drive train. So far no issues at all. I keep an eye on the temp screen and the temp is usually between 200 and 245. So far it stays in that range. I check the fluids before every trip. Regards =Cosmo

    You mentioned the cost of the trailer was divided by the hotel room rate for finding breakeven. The campground rate also is needed. Subtract the campground from the hotel and divide that into the trailer cost for breakeven.
    I saw $42 for NJ residents and $84 a night rates for nonresidents at a NJ state campground.
    There are other cost factors, but camping rates are not cheap!
    Amazingly, your residual value of the trailer has increased! 😁👍You only pay for camping fees!

      Hi Greg. I agree. If was worried if I started adding that in it would get confusing for some (but not all) viewers. Your point is accurate. I send a lot of time boondocking which is free. Stokes cost me 95 for 5 nights. I do get a senior discount but its not much. I believe MJ State campgrounds are $24 for non geezers and $20 for geezers. @t 228 nights sleeping in the trailer I am way past break even with hotel rates. To you point when I camped on the water at Bar Harbor Maine it was $65 a night. Hello Cosmo. I purchased a 4 x 7 teardrop trailer that someone abandoned. I paid $500 to a a man who owns a camper dealership. This Teardrop trailer had been in an accident and the axle and wheel on the driver side was no good. I ordered a couple axles for around $400.
    I am a uber Lyft driver. So I drive to other cities close by in Montana where I live. I also travel to Wyoming, North and South Dakota. I was staying in hotels most of the time. one to four nights per week/ outing. So when I saw this teardrop trailer I jumped on it as a way to increase my profit. I have been looking for one that was affordable for me for the past 5 years. Anyway what do you think sir? Are there any helpful hints that you may have to help me along?

      An Uber driver I had tole me he lived in his car. He drove many hours then parked slept in the car. He showered at a health club and dropped off dirty cloths at a cleaners. He said he reduced his cost of living BIG TIME and was saving to get a better start on living better. It made perfect sense to me. Sounds like you are going in the right direction and living within your means (which is commendable, many are not). There are hot pockets of employment that pays pretty well right now. It might help to relocate. Above all else avoid debt and keep in touch on your progress. 𝕋𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕜 𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕨𝕒𝕥𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘! ✅ Check my other videos th-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos

      @@CosmoWeems thank you so much for your quick reply! A little bit more about me and living in Montana. I had moved to Orlando Florida to reconnect with a woman that I had lost total contact with and via Facebook we reconnected 27 years later. Anyway while I was in Florida my mother passed away. During this time my sister brought to my attention that my dad was going to be alone. Him and my mom had been together for over 50 years and they did everything together. So back to Montana I went. But I love it here.
      I actually have another driving job and another income as well besides the two driving jobs. This Uber/lyft job I love doing. I love to be out and about and I love meeting people. Here in Montana Uber/ lyft pays well. What I mean is per mile and per minute it pays better in the four-state area I live in then anywhere else in the country. For instance while I was in Orlando it was paying 69 cents per mile which I believe is the lowest in the country if I remember correctly. And 9 cents per minute. In Montana it pays a $1. 75 per mile and 25 cents per minute. During the plandemic restart because I believe many of the drivers were afraid. I was one of the only drivers and was making a killing every single day for about 2 or 3 months and then of course it became saturated again and came back to Earth/normal. But I am able to make on average $200 a day. Which I think is fantastic. Of course sometimes it'll be five to six hundred dollars in a day but that is not the norm.
      Also I am a paraplegic and I use a wheelchair. So my car is handicap equipped with a hand control to the gas and brake pedal. So when I saw the teardrop trailers I noticed that they are about as high as my bed which would make it easy for me to transfer in and out of. My dad has had fifth wheels and motorhomes. So he is helping me with the project. I like things simple. Less to clean less to maintain. From one of his campers he has a portable heater called a big Heat. I also I'm going to purchase one of those room air conditioners that you see on every channel nowadays. And see how that works. Also I'm going to purchase a generator and just fill up with gas. I have been researching to find a generator that is sufficient and also efficient. So far the best I am finding is 10 hours with a generator that produces a maximum of 2000 Watts. I need Maybe 20 hours of runtime. Worst case scenario I'll have to keep filling the tank. Lol

    Hi Cosmo! Are your door & porthole windows glass or plexi? I've noticed in most of your videos you have your solar panels out. Does your battery require daily charging or could you get through a few days without?

    • @CosmoWeems
      @CosmoWeems  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Becky,
      The front and back window are automotive glass the side windows including the port holes are plexiglass. I am running a compressor refrigerator. I have had enough power for 48 hours using just the trailer 125 amp hour AGM battery but it drains the battery lower than I prefer. Te first thing I do when I arrive is put out the solar panels. There are lots of variables including how hot out it is (fridge will use more electric in hot weather). If I did not have the fridge I could go a week and would only need 100 watts of solar (in my use case). 𝕋𝕙𝕒𝕟𝕜 𝕐𝕠𝕦 𝕗𝕠𝕣 𝕨𝕒𝕥𝕔𝕙𝕚𝕟𝕘! ✅ Check my other videos th-cam.com/users/cosmoweemsvideos

      Why not buy a small cargo trailer and make it into your camper? The 5X8 size that many manufacturers make is a nice size to use for a small camper, and you can get them built with extra height if you wanted to so you could almost stand in it. On TH-cam you can find all kind of cargo trailer camper conversions to give you ideas. You could make it as simple or complicated a build as you want. You could just buy the cargo trailer and not build anything, just put a cot in it, some cabinets for storage, water containers, some bins and go. Or if you have a minivan, take the rear seats out and go camping in it.
