    I completely agree with you in regards to the trackpads on the Steam Deck. With the pads, it makes menu and desktop navigation a lot easier on the Deck. It also opens up a lot of possibilities for games that heavily use or require a mouse, both in and out of Steam. As an example, something that I frequently do on my Steam Deck is play Flash games on it, and with Steam input, I can easily maps all of the necessary keyboard controls per Flash game on the Deck and use the trackpad for accurate mouse controls.

    • @aquasp102
      @aquasp102 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @@BringusStudios It's a fun use case. It's not completely perfect, mainly stemming from Flash games having about half a second of audio delay for some reason despite the audio being fine on Windows, but it's nothing too bad. Many of the games that I tested work very well.

    • @aquasp102
      @aquasp102 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      @@Yixdy I'll be honest, it wasn't super simple. The method I used involved trying to download the games I wanted through looking at the page sources for Flash sites, which doesn't always work well. Plus, I imagine that methods like this may be harder to do now that many Flash sites have changed due to the program's shutdown.
      Though there are still archives of a lot of different Flash games online. One of the bigger ones is BlueMaxima's Flashpoint, which is a program that allows you to download and load Flash games and animations within it, but it might be difficult to install on the Steam Deck from what I've seen.

    I've heard a lot of people with the ROG Ally hated using Windows on a touch screen too and considered Windows to be the worst part of the system. Thanks to being blessed with having a job that pays me handsomely, I own both a Steam Deck and an Aya Neo 2. I still need to get my emulators and roms installed and configured on the Aya Neo 2, so for now if I want to play retro and console games, the Steam Deck is my go to handhold. PC games feel similar, I haven't tried pushing both systems to the max to gauge which console's better even though the Aya Neo 2 has a more powerful processor. The jury's still out, my only discovered preference was for the Onexplayer with the 5800U, the ergonomics and feel in hand appealed to me over the other consoles, it may have to do with it matching the size of my hands versuses the other handhelds. This appears to be a monster of a handhold but with the announcement of the Asus Ally and other 7840U handhelds coming in the near future, this device is too little too late, I don't know if they plan to release a new OXP with the 7840U but if they do, it could make the entire handheld market more interesting. The Asus Ally could also drive the price of these handhelds below the $1k+ asking price of the Aya Neo's, GPD's and OXP's.

    Steam Deck all the way.
    SteamOS is the "console" experience that PC gaming needed to break into that market. It doesn't matter how powerful other devices are if the experience of using them is janky at best and and absolute headache at worst. Maybe one day Windows will play nice on form factors like this, but as great as PC gaming is, the reason why console gaming still has such a big draw and market share, is because of it's ease of use. I've been both a PC and console gamer for as long as I can remember, and of course I prefer PC gaming overall, but you can't deny that the console experience makes the barrier to entry for people just way way lower.
    Don't agree? Tell that to the Nintendo Switch. It's woefully underpowered compared to PC's and hell, even other consoles, but the numbers don't lie. The fact that the Switch is STILL selling both consoles and games as well as it is after all these years is unarguable proof that the "console formula" works. Same for Sony, same for Microsoft.
    Yes, us PC gamer folk are usually more than capable of doing the necessary tweaking, installing, workarounds, mods, etc. to get a great experience regardless of the hardware, but I just don't think that's who Valve is targeting with the Steam Deck anyway. They are very obviously targeting the PC gamers that want more ways to play, and more importantly, they are targeting the console gamers that are curious/wanting to get into the wonderful world of PC gaming, but don't have the time, money, and experience to get into it. The Steam Deck bridges that gap. Affordable, versatile, boot it up, log in, and boom, you're gaming. Just like a console.
    In the end, gamers just want to game. So the experience that makes you game the easiest is going to win out.

      Is the steamOS with it's simulation of windows games via proton faster than just playing on windows os with the windows bloatware? Bc this will make the difference between buying an ally or a deck

    • @mgord9518
      @mgord9518 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@TheUltimateHacker007Depends on the game, but a lot of the time it is faster.
      WINE (which is one of the bigger parts of Proton) is a complete reimplememtation of common Windows programming interfaces. So it's not really a "simulation" or emulator, it's more a Linux API that just so happens to correspond 1:1 to common Windows APIs.
      Because it is a reimplementation, certain functions might get the same job done in a different way, which could be faster, slower or less compatible than the "real" Windows API. But yeah, the lack of bloatware along with Linux having much better OpenGL and Java performance can make certain games have far better performance.

BUT, if you have wifi built in into your pc, it won't work or you need to unplug/ get the wifi card out for it too work.

    I was wondering why there are separate Joy-Cons too. Nobody will confuse it with a Switch! Maybe they expect the sticks will drift? Then they can just tell you to buy a new pair for $60 instead of letting you service it. Also I've seen photos where the controllers were attached to something that looks like the Switch's charging grip. They sell those magnetic keyboards too so if you attach one and remove the controllers then it turns into a Surface-style device (basically a netbook) giving it a second use in school or work without exposing your epic gamer power level.

    I bought the steam deck as a replacement for my laptop. I am now working full time on my steam deck, and once I am fed up with work, I pull it from the dock and switch back to console mode.
    I do have a desktop on my server that I remotely use too.
    I think this alone has lowered my power use by 60..80W
    My 4k monitor would allow to connect to my server, but the monitor only supports 1080p as max resolution for the on-board soc.
    I would still buy the deck price wise. I would buy the deck support wise. But if the deck wasn't there but something like steam holo (not steam os v2, but really steam deck steam os) would exist, I would buy that and have a bit more room when I am working in the train.
    Yes, I work in the train too. Everything is possible with the deck. Just as long as you don't install windows, it keeps being useful.
