      Definitely an HSP. 10 out of 10 on the signs. I struggle daily with recharging from all the stimulating conversations I have at work. I’m an extrovert so I don’t mind the conversation, but with being an HSP I absorb everyone’s energy and it’s exhausting. I struggle with feeling lonely and seeking interaction but also wanting to be alone due to overstimulation 😩

    As a highly sensitive person these things help me:
    1. I don't use Facebook or Instagram
    2. I will clean and tidy my home every day which makes me feel much happier
    3. I try to avoid toxic people in my life where possible
    4. Walk my dog twice a day/ spending time outdoors
    5. I don't watch the news or really keep up to date with anything of the sort
    6. I try to be greatful for the little things such as my cup of coffee in the morning
    7. I take a relaxing bath every day
    8. I don't get involved with gossip at work or in social situations
    Practicing these steps has really seemed to make my life better and more fulfilling. I also thank Vera for being such a wonderful soul ❤

    Hi, yes, my whole life I now understand my reactions to things, not sure if it’s a shield or sword. Everything bothers me too much, sensory overload, excessive, talking, loud noises, I don’t like a lot of people around me I get stressed, strobe lights, headlights on cars. God this is not easy.

    I think I've always known I was an HSP. I chose to be a critical care nurse and now that I look back, I am amazed that I survived as long as I did. I am 76 now and choose to be alone most of the time. People exhaust me. I'm content though.

    I used to think I just didn’t cope with life in a very good way! I blamed myself for being so sensitive! No one seemed to feel like I did! It’s so beautiful to finally understand that I was born with these sensitivities and I now know how to embrace those feelings and support myself in a positive way!     I’m an HSP! I’m also a pediatric occupational therapist and I work with children with sensory challenges. It’s a great career fit because I am more naturally and easily able to tune in to what they are experiencing in order to help them! Highly recommend. I love being an HSP now even though it was tough when growing up. :)

    You’re only on #2 and I am in tears because it’s me! I am sitting outside in the peace and a neighbour has started weed whacking and I have to go in now. 😢 I feel like all the time I have spent wondering why I’m not more “flexible”is now a bit clearer.

    I always feel overwhelmed and overstimulated when I go to the mall. I hate it. On the other hand, going hiking feels amazing.

    10 out of 10! I have known I am an HSP for a while now, thanks to your educational videos, Vera. Whenever you talk about this subject, it makes me feel more “normal” instead of the oddball.     I really think your videos on HSP are so important, because you present it so well, so balanced without any sensationalism, which I think is super helpful to helping people better understand it. I've said it before but I really look forward to some future day when you and Elaine Aron make the definitive TH-cam video on the subject together!!     Great tips! I always wondered if my feeling more secure in long sleeved heavier clothing is connected. (Borrowing one of my wife's sweaters feels extra safe & protected.) I also find matcha tea so therapeutic, including the sifting & whisking process when preparing it! 😎

    I found myself in every single point.
    Since I know that HSPs are a real thing and that our brains actually work differently, I feel much less weird.
    And honestly, less sick.
    I doubted myself so many times, because what I felt and how my mind and body reacted, always felt off.
    But knowing that what I feel and how much I feel is normal is very freeing.
    Now I can work on being kinder to myself, because I'm not constantly blaming myself for being 'wrong'.
    Your videos helped with that and got me learning about HSP. Thank you so much 😊

    I discovered you not too long ago, and I fully recognize myself as being a Highly Sensitive person. I recognize myself perfectly in everything you describe, and in particular the smells, the crowds and the noise. For me, the most disturbing thing is my sensitivity to smells, I can't get over that, and it's very difficult to live with on a daily basis. I wish you a very pleasant day! 😘

    Excellent video! I’m in my 60s now and I wish that I had understood this about myself much much earlier in life. Back in the day it just wasn’t something that was really recognized. At least now we are beginning to understand the importance of this trait and that is truly a relief. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into your videos! ❤

    100%. ❤ HSP wasn’t realized when I was young and I struggled as a child with the beauty and pain of life. I became a Prekindergarten teacher determined to make every child know they were safe, loved, and honored for their unique characteristics. My relationships often were “rescue operations” which wasn’t helpful for me. My husband noticed immediately when I was hangry and that I often hum or wiggle when excited (think dog 😂) I have a chronic illness that amplifies pain (fun…not) but since I can’t work because of it I now have time to decompress and immerse in the beauty of nature and choose social interactions carefully.     Some years ago my primary care doctor suggested Elaine Aron’s book, and it changed my life too. For the first time I could see many of my personality traits as natural and positive. Your videos are wonderful, and your insights into all the daily experiences of being an HSP help remind me of who I am and how to care for myself and even make the most of my life.

    You are exactly right about all these. I'm an Artist and color affects me deeply. I also smell everything!! My sense of smell makes me overwhelmed in certain spaces. I love being alone. I wear sunglasses because too much light hurts me. I love dim spaces.
    I will notice if the lightbulbs in a room are cool toned or warm toned.

    This is 💯 me. I actually looked up why I feel so overwhelmed and sensitive and affected by things like noise, light, smell, and violence and tragedy in the media a few years ago and an article about it came up. It was spot on with everything i was feeling just like your video. It explained a lot just like this video. It's nice to know that I'm not just crazy and weird. Although I read a recent article on studies that focused on the effects of meditation and how it can lead a certain percentage of people into a very dark place causing more damage than good. So definitely look into that before jumping onto the meditation bandwagon.

    Oh Vera, I feel so seen! I was nodding along the whole way through this video. I have always cried a lot, been overwhelmed easily, needed plenty of alone time, and have often felt misunderstood, but thankfully now I see the benefits of being a HSP; the sensation of deep awe and joy I feel in nature, at a theatre/music production, or visiting a historical sight (and a myriad of other things) is something I am so grateful for and it makes the trickier parts worth it! And the world definitely needs us soft and empathic souls. Thank you for being a shining light in explaining and guiding people in regards to being a HSP, you express it so beautifully 🥰

    Thank you, this is such a helpful list! I am an HSP and I find it really difficult explaining to people that I need space and alone time to recharge. I find that when I get overstimulated and anxious in social situations (like at work in our open plan office), I become very chatty. And that leads others to think I am extroverted! In fact it is all adrenaline and when I get home from work, I am exhausted! I really wish more people were aware that HSPs are real and need calm and quiet a lot of the time. Love your channel.

    This is your best HSP video yet, Vera. I totally understand no. 3; change in environment affects me too. We’ve recently got some plants from neighbours who are leaving. I love them and want them but things look quite different and that affects me for a few days. I’m the same with pillows.     Each of these 10 is 100% accurate for me. I always felt out of sync with the rest of the world as a teenager and kept searching for how to become "normal." Along the way in life, I had already realized some of what you are saying, but it really helps hearing these things put into words. And it helps to realize that there are many out there like us. I also have granddaughters now that are also extra sensitive. It showed up when they were babies. So the brain wiring must be inherited.

    Yes, I am a HSP. I grew up in a family that didn’t understand me and I was constantly being criticized for being over sensitive, it did scar me for life. Thank you for such an informative video, it really helped me feel better about who I am (oh gosh now I am crying!)🥰

    New subscriber here. I just found your channel. I’m a man in my mid-30s. I’m also physically disabled. I’m generally a very deep thinker, very sensitive. I recently discovered attachment theory, and in doing so I’ve realized I’m anxiously attached. I’m continually and actively working towards becoming securely attached. I like to think part of my personality is related to my experiences with my disability. While I have many friends who are men, I’ve always felt more comfortable around my friends who are women for the aforementioned reasons above. Anyway, please keep up the phenomenal work on this channel of yours, Vera! I’ve found my people, people who understand my sensitive side. This is the best feeling in the world, being seen for who I am!

    Something that really helped me as an HSP was getting away from the overstimulation of city life-the clustered roads, overpopulated public spaces, signage, loud sounds, etc. I found a new home recently in a quieter town that has way more open roads, less tourism, a more laidback atmosphere, and a lot more natural scenic beauty…it just feels like I can actually ‘breathe’ now. 😂
    Love the blend of country living with availability that I’ve never experienced before in this state, and I’m so much happier! ❤️

      @@RonnaAutumnLayne I hear that. It was a long road to finding the right place for me. I lived in SoFlo for 25 years, but it is getting way too chaotic and overpopulated now over there. Had panic attacks constantly and kept thinking there was something wrong with me.
      Something I’d recommend is getting a massage from an LMT. I just tried it out last month, and it has done wonders for my health and wellness as they can relieve a lot of the inflammation in your body caused by anxiety. That can be a great way to help treat yourself to something calm and soothing in the meantime until you can get to a place that brings you some peace. Hope that helps! Many blessings. 🕊️

      @@NintenJon64 I have actually been a self-employed LMT for about 10 years. I started getting regular massage when I was 18 to manage stress. I'd be worse off without it. For me, I think some of it has to do with the fact that I haven't found people that are in to quiet, simple living. So many people around me are constantly seeking instagrammable moments. My nervous system is fried. There is a lake with walking & hiking trails about a 10 minute drive away. I get out there as much as I can. But when I step out my front door, it's concrete, & noise & light pollution. Sometimes I feel stuck, but I know that I'm not. I've moved around a lot in my life, & I've been in my home (and I do massage out of my home) for 6 years which is the longest I've ever been grounded. So it feels tough to move, but I will need to for my health, wellbeing, & "happiness"

    Hi Vera! I feel that I am on the spectrum of HSP, I am highly emotional and I am definitely an over thinker. One thing that helps me is listening to audiobooks, as they redirect my overthinking😅
    My husband is also HSP, exhibiting all of the items that you mention. He also has Parkinson’s which has amplified his sensitivity. I make sure to keep our home as clutter free as possible, keep a strong routine for daily activities such as taking walks, mealtimes, napping, going to bed. Giving ourselves plenty of time for appointments, limiting time spent at experiences that are overwhelming such as concerts or parties. Thank you for a great video❤

    I’m a HSP, thankfully I have learned to set boundaries that help me to not get overwhelmed. I live alone and rarely watch movies or listen to music.     This is a very good video and clarifies so much for people who aren’t sure if they are HSP
    For years I believed people when they said I took things too much to heart, or was too sensitive etc, the empathy I would feel when I was with people could be crippling, especially if the emotions they were experiencing were very strong, sad or negative, it would take me days sometimes week to recover from.
    I tried to explain this to a friend when I was in my 20s, and she looked at me like…. what on earth is she talking about….so after that I bottled up my feelings, in case people thought I was odd 😂
    I also got funny looks sometimes if I commented on how beautiful a leaf was, or other aspects of nature, it was like I was the only one seeing these things!
    When I was in my late 30s, I gradually realised it wasn’t me that was odd, I was a HSP, the relief was amazing, and made perfect sense.
    Tbh I reassessed the people in my life and whether I wanted to continue with them in my life, this also helped to change who I was surrounded by.
    Now I just be myself, I appreciate all around me, while also trying to live a healthy balanced life
    Your videos have given me some great ideas on self care as well 👍😊

    I love all your videos but the HSP ones always make me feel so much better about myself! I used to always beat myself up having to recharge after things like going to the grocery store that was crowded and loud, and constantly upset with myself about how everyone seems to be able to work 40+hours a week and I can't without becoming extremely drained. I would always tell myself what is wrong with you these are normal things everyone can do, why can't I! So glad I'm not alone in this ❤ I'm so grateful I found your channel.❤

    Something that is tiring is that when I'm going through something very hard that other people might be going through as well i keep having empathy and looking for ways to help people so much so that i forget to focus on myself

    Hi Vera! The day I discovered that there was something like the HSP trait, it was an eye opener for me. I soon understood why I was not interested in parties or going to the discotheque or joining dance events when I still went to school, or why I never joined univerity parties during my study time. I always felt wrong when I was younger and wondererd why the heck I was not be able to "fit in".
    Already at a very young age I discovered that I needed alone time to recharge, and made up excusions why I did not want to come out and play (I think my aunt had a birthday about five times a year ...).
    Not all of the mentioned examples cput for me, e.g. I am able to watch high suspense movies (but preferably not alone), and I can stand violence in movies as long a I know it is not "real". But I definitely need my alone time and can't stand being in loud or crowded environments for too long. I am a member of the overthinkers unite community and had always bad oral marks at school, because as soon as I had figured out whar I wanted to say, somebody alse already mentioned it.
    Sometimes, being a HSP Introvert is not *that* easy. :)

    I am. I can recognize myself in most of them or all. Most of them just because I'been working a lot to stop overthinking all the time. Need a lot of time alone time, silence and quiet places. And sleeping time. If I'm stress, I used to cry a lot, even with strong happy emotions in my childhood. My motto since I can remember is to have a quiet, peaceful life. I also have always in my bag noise-cancelling headphones, sunglasses. This is a great video. I love your account

    Can't see someone on tv crying without crying myself. Can't attend symphonies because I get overwhelmed; I ran out of a free concert of Luciano Pavarotti in 1975 because he opened with "Nes'un Dorma" and I nearly fainted.

    Hello Vera! Thank you so much for this video! I’m an HSP for sure, and I suspect that I’m on the higher end of the spectrum, although I haven’t done any tests to attest it. I strongly relate to all the signs you talked about. I laughed when you talked about your boyfriend pointing out to you that you have been silent for 2 hours, while in your head you have been very busy! I do exactly the same thing, and sometimes, my husband will come to me and ask me if I need a “reboot” since I haven’t moved or talked for some time!
    I discovered late in life that I was an HSP (in my 60’s) and it was such a relief! I especially enjoy your videos on that subject: they are very helpful and a great source of healing and self-acceptance for me! I wish you a very happy birthday! And you are right: as we get older, time really seems to go by faster! I don’t know why, but it shows me the importance of enjoying the present moment. ❤️❤️🌼🥳

    Yes! I’ve known for a long time that I am an HSP. I’ve come to understand that it’s my ‘normal’ and am more accepting of myself. I relate to every one one of those traits. Certain fabrics bother me, excessive noise or loud people bother me, too many people get to me…. I saw someone else’s comment that they like dim lighting. Me too! My husband says that I was a bat in a previous life as I shower with the lights off. 😀
    But what drives me crazy the most is the non stop thinking and chatter going on in my head! There is a constant stream of thought. I wish I could turn it off. If I did or said something wrong or made a mistake, it’s like a revolving tape thinking about it over and over.
    Can’t tolerate violence or people or animals being hurt whether in movies or real life. I walk out of the room or turn it off.

    When I was a lot younger I worked in a small home caring for aged folks. I was so sensitive that I would take on their aches and pains. In later years I was able to form an imaginary shield to protect myself. It helps sometimes. I also worked at a big box office store. So much noise and the lights do affect you. Another place that affects me is an electronic store. TVs on the walls I can feel the electrical current right away. I stay away from these places now. Good video Vera. ☮️🌎🌲

    Happy birthday! You think it goes fast now just wait! I turned 60 last week! I seems to fly by even faster now.
    I enjoy your videos. For most of my life I have had to suppress my emotions. I was always to sensitive. I very much need my alone time process. I have always been told I'm different and weird, but when others have issues they come to me for understanding. I always found this difficult as I feel so much for them. Their problems become mine and I feel it deeply but can't tell others. Thank you for these videos. I have learned some new ways to deal with thing and discovered that some of my old ways were good too. I am dealing with health issues for both my husband and I and find solice in my art, knitting and crocheting. Also reading. This is when I unwind and find my centre again. Thank you for these videos!

    I read The Fault In Our Stars when I was 16, and it messed me up for a WHILE. I've known I'm an HSP for a while, but this is still helping me recognize ways it affected me before I knew what an HSP was.

    So true I don’t eat any sugar it makes me sick! Alcohol I am drunk off one sip ! I use to smoke pot to put up with the constant physical and emotional abuse of my family and clients! I have never really had a friend! I prefer to be on my own ! People use me for personal gain

    Definitely feeling a lot of these signs Vera, especially with regards to empathy, overstimulation, not being rushed or over-pressured, news articles staying with me for a long time, overthinking, hard to make snap decisions, needing a lot of consistent sleep and alone time to process and recover from busy days. So I'm definitely sensitive (I've heard it all my life), if not bordering on highly sensitive. Thank you for a simple and in-depth explanation on what it means to be highly sensitive, I feel like I know myself a little bit clearer now. 💗💗

    I just had to watch this video again, because I did couple of tests about HSP and I got quite/very high scores in them. I do know that I have always been quite sensitive and now I know why I get really burdened from being with most of the people and get tired very easily when there is loud noice etc. and need alone time badly so I can recharge. When I did a test for a sensory defensiveness with my doctor, I got quite low points, so I thought that I was not that sensitive, but now I know that it isn't same as being the HSP. Thank you for making these videos because they did help me realize that I am HSP and made me understand that I can learn to set boundaries and live with being HSP, not suppress my emotions just because "you have no reason to react this much". Thank you!
    Btw, I am listening the book and it really is so good for people like us.

    Wow, I recognise almost all of these things, especially reactions to music and intolerance to coffee. I have to be in the right state of mind to watch certain films, or read certain books, and their after-effects stay with me for days. And I can't cope with anything involving animal cruelty, even in fiction, or torture of humans - which as a keen fan of Tudor history comes with its own difficulties! I am in my 60s now and a lot of the symptoms have definitely got worse with both age, and personal trauma involving bereavement. I wouldn't have described myself as Highly sensitive, but having watched this I feel somewhat differently about it! Incidentally meditation has been really useful for me coping with post-menopause insomnia.

      I am also in my 60s, and I agree that my HSP traits have heightened and increased as I age! Trauma and tragedy gathered in old age are very difficult to navigate and to press through. Daily life becomes much harder when we experience chronic illness or bereavement or both!
      Vera's insights concerning how beauty feeds us have been a huge help for me! I now think of myself as a seeker of beauty for this reason. I need beauty to speak into my life to bring a sense of balance to all of the pain and suffering.

    Thank you for making this! I can now identify myself and my son as an HSP. When he was little they tested him for autism, but the results were that it was anxiety, because as you said, HSP is not a diagnosed condition. This is so helpful in understanding ourselves

    Excellent video!! You just basically described me 😊 I LOLed a few times because this was so spot on! I had an idea for a future video: maybe specific tips for HSPs in relationships (all kinds) with people who are not HSPs. My bf and I are so different and sometimes it's hard to relate to each other and communicating helps, but I feel like we still struggle on this point.
