I'll see what I can do, but I probably can't get that machine in for the channel - unfortunately I can't really justify buying a laptop purely for the purposes of reviewing it at this point (maybe in a few years though if I'm lucky). Also my mistake - it seems Dell are pretty much the only company who use Noble locks and I've never encountered them before.
I have seen pretty many reviews of this laptop now, and i think this is one of the best! Beutiful b-roll, all attention to the laptop, not to loud background music and a calm and comfortable voice to listen to. Just perfect length too. Definatly worth a subscribe from me. Can't wait to see more!
Superb video and great review, it's very nice that you mentioned the lack of an insert for opening the laptop (which could be something important for everyday use, I really wish there will be some sort of lifehack or accessories to make lifting up the display easier). Typing this on a Alienware 13 R3 with the 1080p IPS configuration, one thing to notice is that the IPS panel is ever so slightly thicker.
Pair this with the AGA and put a 1070 or 1080 (or a Vega graphics card since I'm assuming the launch cards will be to compete with those two graphics cards specifically) inside of it, and you have a very capable 1440p laptop. Still though, Alienware could have put another USB 3 Type A port or an SD Card reader. Sure you can buy a peripheral for the SD Card, but it's another thing to carry around.
Hey, this video was way too awesome compared to all I watched, Good job!!! You made me order this device last night, actually I wanted to know that with normal loads (non-gaming) does it run fanless?? I wanted a super silent laptop for my day to day work routine, so thought it has proper ventilation enough to run fanless!! Please do reply, (actually I have showed this video to all of my friends, you might be getting bunch of subs from them too). 😎
+shravan das Thanks! Even at light loads this machine will probably have the fans on about half the time (although they won't really get particularly loud even then). The main advantage of the passive cooling in my eyes is that if you leave it idling it's dead silent, and the fans shouldn't kick up at all in that case.
As of right now there's no noticeable burn in, but I have taken precautions such as hiding the Windows taskbar, having a relatively fast idle screen timeout, and having a desktop background that changes every day. Any OLED screen will burn in eventually, but if you take care of it I'm pretty sure it'll outlast the laptop.
Alienware 13 r3 is a nightmare to purchase. I ordered it twice in 2 months and both times it was cancelled for lack of parts. I was told they had to hold my money 28 days before it could be shipped. However, there wasn't any guarantee I'd get it then either. Months have passed and I still haven't received this laptop. My advice to anyone is to buy Apple and screw the ridiculous long waiting periods.
hi, i have the same model. Is it normal that u can hear a realy quiet "klick" noise when the fans start to ramp up? It sounds like a hdd, but only for one second.
JmanAsh-B A Thinkpad is not a gaming machine. You won't ever find a superior keyboard on other gaming laptops. Thinkpads are overpriced for the performance they offer, but you pay for the quality, longevity and keyboard.
It's by no means a light machine - obviously what you consider too heavy will come down to personal preference, but there are plenty of thinner and lighter gaming laptops around today that might suit you better. I'd recommend seeing if any store nearby has one in stock that you could try out for yourself
Oei, Can somebody explain to me with this OLED, so basiccly if i forget to shut down and let the laptop run for couple of hours and lets ay it happens often then after a year or two will some image burn to the screen???
Depends what's on your screen - burn in really does take quite a while to appear, but if your taskbar is always in the same place then after a couple of years I wouldn't be surprised if it's somewhat visible if you display a fullscreen grey image. If mild burn-in is something that will annoy you and you're not willing to take basic precautions (like hiding the taskbar, not keeping the same wallpaper up all the time, having a reasonable screen time-off etc.) then I'd recommend saving your money and going for the IPS option. That being said I've had my 13R3 for around a year now and I've not seen any burn in whatsoever (although I have used every technique I just mentioned just in case - all OLED screens burn in eventually).
Thanks a bunch! I'd love to take a look at that machine, but unfortunately the devices for these reviews for the most part come out of my own pocket so it's not really feasible for me to do so - at least until I get a pay rise 😉
If you can put up with the average battery life then there's hardly a better machine on the market - if you're looking for something a little less aggressive looking then I'd also consider the Inspiron 15 7000 Gaming and the XPS 15 if you don't mind a bit of a drop in graphics performance.
+LeoCtrix The OLED screen is excellent but it's very oversaturated out of the box - if you edit photos or prefer a more neutral and accurate look them the XPS 15 is for you. That being said, with some calibration this OLED does have the capability of being fantastic for colour work too, and it's input lag and response time are far above that of any IPS screen I've ever used so for gaming it's a no brainer.
SuperUser thanks for replying ;) they added this “Edr” update, does it make it less saturated and more accurate? : th-cam.com/video/vWgXzhgIWJU/w-d-xo.html
+kerodfresenbet gebremedhin Haven't experienced any thermal throttling issues whatsoever on this machine - sure it's not quiet, but the fans do work. And no, I wasn't paid to make this video. Not only is that completely illegal without disclosure, it's something that would be so morally incorrect that I'd never consider it anyway. If you've got this laptop and you're experiencing throttling I'd be interested in hearing your experience - it's possible there's a fault with your laptop and if so I'd highly recommend asking Alienware for a replacement because from my experience and the experience of every other reviewer I've seen take a look at this machine this shouldn't be a problem.
kerodfresenbet gebremedhin You should order this machine from resellers like HIDEvolution. They charge you an extra 50$ for a professional repaste with Liquid ultra. It'll never throttle with proper repaste and undervolt!
Depends on what you're after - the larger form factor of the 15 R3 doesn't really offer that many advantages over the 13 R3 beyond 2.5 inch drive support and a slightly faster GPU option so you're losing a lot of portability for arguably not that much of a benefit. That being said if you really do need the 1070 then the 13 R3 isn't for you. I've not had any problems running everything I want on this machine but I also don't push it that often with really graphically intense titles.
SuperUser true I gotta take this from one place to another and if you’re saying it can handle games well imma go for the 13 then. Even light Games at 1440p like overwatch well. I made my decision. Thanks!
I'm never embarrassed..with these machines...13 inch touch screen alienware R2 5 Hundred Dollars..3 years before 14 inch alienware 3 hundred 50 dollar..both at the pawnshop..😃⁉️😂⁉️ super..super DEALS
Nope - this is the custom SKU with the i7-6700HQ, GTX 1060, 1440p OLED display, 256GB PCI-E SSD, and 32GB of RAM (putting it closer to $2,000 than $1,000).
Do Gigabyte Aero 14 please! Also, it's a Noble lock, not Kensington.
I'll see what I can do, but I probably can't get that machine in for the channel - unfortunately I can't really justify buying a laptop purely for the purposes of reviewing it at this point (maybe in a few years though if I'm lucky). BEST REVIEW FOR THIS MACHINE ON TH-cam PERIOD.
its very good indeed , just like dave2lee
I have looked a lot of others and I definitely agree with this statement
Ahmed Nabil I think it's definitely one of the best but dave2d is my favourite.
what about D2D?
agreed - one of the best!
Wow. Great scripting flow and camera work! Instant subscribe.
Getting my 13 R3 (1080p 16Gb RAM 512 SSD) this evening :D

Maybe stick on a small strip of skateboard grip tape?
I've watched this video about 10 times in preparation of getting my 13 tomorrow. Simply cannot wait!
How has the 13 held up?... I've been thinking on buying it cuz my Acer Nitro 5 is just god awful lol
You should do more laptop reviews. Excellent video, professionally made and very informative.
My goodness man, your video production is beyond on point. GREAT JOB
this video quality is better than mkbhd. you just need a better camera and your going to be taking reviews to the next level. I love this man.
gotta say found a hidden gem ( i.e: your channel) thumbs up mate ,keep on uploading :D
Wow, the cinematography is beautiful. I love the colour you used! Very distinctive and a great review overall.
+Ivo Sotirov Thanks!
This review was fantastic. Brilliant camera work too buy the way!
Great review, one of the best i have seen on Alienware actually!

Haha, thanks!
Fantastic professional review, keep it up!
Fantastic review, subbed!
4K display for this 13''???Must be crazy to do that.
Great Review! keep em coming
would be great to see a comparison to the 1050 TI version in terms of battery usage whenever gaming
Now that i remember my 1st laptop, sys mirage integrated graphics... OMFG
It's the best out there. Please don't change anything. In the next year's model just give it more battery life.

Superb review! :)
great review buddy
I have this lap top and its amazing. The screen is amazing, the best screen on any lap top
No burn in with the tobi eye tracking. It shuts it off fairly quick. Its a non issue really.
Yeah but look at that PWM flickering at 8:08: th-cam.com/video/Pv1PZLoDi6Q/w-d-xo.html
Great review!
Got this for Christmas
Can't wait to get my Alien😍

Awesome!! your review made my mind to choose the 13 over a custom PC build for myself!!! Carry on with your work!! Good luck!!, 😀
Great review, thank you.
Great video, just curious does your oled screen suffer from burn in

well made video my man. Thanks
Can you review New Dell Alienware 13 17 Series Gaming Laptop LCD Top Back Cover w/Hinges HKM3R

...
You think anyone looking to buy a laptop like this would use a Macbook for their purposes instead?
james cook Always purchase from a certified reseller if you want to at least avoid the waiting hassle.
hi, i have the same model.
Is it normal that u can hear a realy
quiet "klick" noise when the fans start to ramp up? It sounds like a hdd, but only for one second.
Good work for the 21:9 video :) Thx!
You're very welcome - currently using an Ultrawide monitor myself so I know all too well the importance of uploading 21:9 content properly
Playing hexagon.. in 2018... on $2000 laptop xD I thought I was the only person with such majestic idea
This man has obviously never used a think pad laptop, those keyboards are god like
JmanAsh-B A Thinkpad is not a gaming machine. You won't ever find a superior keyboard on other gaming laptops. Thinkpads are overpriced for the performance they offer, but you pay for the quality, longevity and keyboard.
Love the theme of this laptop but im worried about ot being to heavy to unplug an carry around the house, any thoughts ?
It's by no means a light machine - obviously what you consider too heavy will come down to personal preference, but there are plenty of thinner and lighter gaming laptops around today that might suit you better. I'd recommend seeing if any store nearby has one in stock that you could try out for yourself
It’s gonna be 2019 soon, these other companies should take notes from dell’s alienware and ditch the aggressive design and the red and black theme.
Is this the m13 r3?
Great job SuperUser!

I loved the cinematography, u did amazing job, i wish you could make a review on alienwarw 17r4 also, plz 🙏 plz plz plz
Thanks a bunch! I'd love to take a look at that machine, but unfortunately the devices for these reviews for the most part come out of my own pocket so it's not really feasible for me to do so - at least until I get a pay rise 😉
Do you think this machine would be good for freelancing in 3D art and CAD design?
Would imagine it would work very well for that
So could I use this laptop for gaming and college work or would you recommend I purchase another laptop?

why didn't u talk about its thermal throttling issues? did they pay not to talk about it?

What is the price of 13 r3
GTX 1060
16 GB RAM
the battery life is better with fhd ips screen???
+leo birga To my knowledge it would be but I can't say by how much as I don't personally own that unit.
How much is this one costs you?
Is the 13 without oled good enough to buy ?
+Kaer popo Absolutely - I'd definitely recommend at least getting the 1080p IPS, but the OLED, while incredibly nice, is far from a necessity
SuperUser thank you !!
Although Dell owns Alienware - Alienware is its own entity. Dell ha Nothing to do with the build of Alienware's choices or builds.

Is it good for a 9 year old girl, Im getting it for her for Christmas?
