  • When I was 20 years old I moved to San Francisco. I came back when I was 21. It seems to be a fairly common story for many people who move to big cities around the country. I'll spare you the boring details here.
My girlfriend at the time went to the San Francisco Art Institute. She let me borrow one of here point and shoot film cameras to get some pictures before we returned to Michigan. A year or two after I returned I took in the roll of film to a drug store that developed photos at the time and they said that they couldn't find any photos. So, I put the roll in my desk and it sat there for a decade.
Now that I've been dabbling in film photography I took some fresh rolls of film up to Express Photo in Livonia and I decided to run this roll with me. It turns out that there were photos on there. Imagine my surprise. Before I didn't really have anything remaining from San Francisco besides an old Safeway bag filled with brochures and things. Now I have this and I'm grateful for it. Especially since it's through my own eyes. I wish I had more but I didn't go around recording everything back then like I do now.

Those seals look chill AF. Like that one shot looks like it’s in the fog. The music makes me think of fog. I was in SF for a few days in the summer of 2008 Maybe we were there at the same time. I think it’s my favorite city in the US tho I’ve only spent 3 days there. I get the sense that it’s become unaffordable and shitty due to the tech bros now.
