This speculation was further strengthened by the steps of Kawasaki, one of Yamaha's main competitors, which on July 8 was known to have applied for a patent for a revolutionary 2-stroke engine. The 2-stroke engine, based on the patent filed by Kawasaki, uses a conical intake valve similar to that seen in 4-stroke engines, and uses direct fuel injection to solve many problems.
This step is considered a strong signal that 2-stroke motorbikes, which had disappeared from the market due to increasingly stringent emissions regulations, will re-enter the automotive scene. This raises hopes that Japanese automotive manufacturers, including Yamaha, might return to producing their legendary 2-stroke motorbikes.
