    I love my 16 Explorer. Mine doesn't have any of what they call "cheap" styling. And it is amazing in the snow. Works for me, I make the payments and I love it. All that matters.

      It's self proclaimed by Ford that it's "best selling". They apparently factor in contracted people who buy them in fleets, and how many times it's resold as well.
      Jeep claims the same damn thing with the Grand Cherokee.
      FACT: Toyota is #1 GLOBALLY in auto sales. And sell more Highlanders/Rav4s here in the U.S. than explorers. Honda sells more Crvs, than the explorer, Nissan sells more Muranos/Rogues than the explorer
      Hyundia outsells explorers with there Tuscan and other crossovers
      Kia outsells explorers with their crossovers.
      Explorers ONLY outsell GM/Dodge/Jeep here in the use with the explore vs the others direct competition.
      Ford next to Jeep has lowest resale value, most recalls and defects. And scores the lowest in reliability more often than not.

    I got the platinum and you cant find me a car with the driving assistance tech for anything less, that takes regular gas, costs $50 bucks for an oil change and has so many driving assistance features. Granted it costs the same as a discovery sport (bu that has $400 oil changes, mostly labor not parts). However the lane keeping aid (not warning but actually steers you) and adaptive cruise control, LED headlights, LED taillights, LED Fog lights, messaging seats, cooled seats, as well as heated rear seats are all features that are in a volvo xc90 (@64K), or Q7, MB GL series, or X5, which are all way more expensive with the same features and have impracticable storage with 3rd row up. This SUV doesnt even compare with the pathfinder, highlander, and sorento. Pilot is the only one that has active steering that is around or less than 55K but Honda salesman think that they are selling a range rover when you ask to negotiate. While a ford can easily be negotiate 5K or more.
    So again tell me why the explorer is a bad choice?

  • @717dash_cam

    Sure, quality isn't on par for what you are paying on the interior anyway... But damn does that terrain management and all wheel drive system kick ass. I had a 16 Limited for two weeks as a rental while my fusion was in the shop (one of many times each about the same length of time... really.. another testament to the lack of QC) which happened to be during WS Jonas here in Harrisburg PA. I had to be at work at 5am Saturday when there was 8 inches on the ground when I left for work, by the time I got out 4-5 hours later there was about 22 inches on the ground at least, not to mention having been "plowed in" at work. I only got stuck once, and that was taking a turn too wide to get into my yard over a curb... once I turned off TC, the all wheel drive system dug and got itself out without giving up. I hit at least a 3 foot snow bank from where a plow emptied at an intersection coming off a snow emergency route, and that didn't even shake it.

    I recently purchased a new 2017 Explorer Sport. Have had it for over a month now and so far quite solid and it has Sync 3 which is good! Paid $53k CAD ($40.5k USD) for it on Ford Employee Discount + Costco deal, and got the sunroof + adaptive cruise with collision assist. Really happy with it, no fit/finish issues. Wish the seat backings in 2nd/3rd row were stronger when folded down. Also wish it had a ZF-8 transmission. But the engine note is great! I'm loving it :)

    I've owned several Explorers leading back to 2007 when they could actually go off roading, with my 2015 I was afraid to take it off road. The select train system is a joke, because the Explorer doesn't have the ground clearance needed to do any of those functions. The explorer was just over 50k, the Jeep GC Limited was $8000 less and it's interior was better quality plus it's 4x4 system can actually be used.

    Just bought a 2016 Platinum Explorer. Has more cargo room than the GMC Acadia (we tested it because we need cargo space), and drives very well. If you need an off road vehicle maybe this won't be ideal, but if you need a family hauler this is ideal. I do, however have some reservations after a day or so of use:
    1. Ambient lighting feature isn't consistent. It works, then it doesn't.
    2. Not the greatest on gas. We traded in our 2012 F-150 which got us about 1000km on one tank, and even though the Explorer's tank is only 50L less in capacity, it is rated for around 400km per tank, which isn't good considering my tiny Kia Soul has a smaller fuel tank than the Explorer and I'm getting 600km per tank (according to the information screen on the dash). So, this means more fill ups and more $$$.
    3. If you have babies and car seats, if you place your rear-facing car seat behind the driver, you cannot put the driver's seat all the way back to give you more room. My wife is fine with the space, I find it a little tight.
    4. The foot rest for your left foot is smaller, so I find it a little awkward.
    Otherwise it's a great vehicle. We bought it for longer road trips and general family hauling with the ability to take 2 more passengers if need be. Our truck made it impossible to take anyone else with us except our kids, so we kind of outgrew the truck. I do find though that if I had more money to burn, I would have preferred a vehicle with better fuel milage, but with the deals we got on this SUV and the trade in value of our truck, the price was hard to beat.

      +Akash Hegde He said Range Rover not the discovery, two different land rovers. I agree about Ford copying designs of other manufacturers. It seems like they're copying designs of the brands they use to own; Land Rover, Aston Martin, and Jaguar. I see a little bit of the Jag grill in the new continental.

    • @whyallthefuss201

    do not buy a ford! They are junk! My 2015 Ford Explorer is falling apart just after the warranty expired and I had a problem with it before the warranty expired that they said they did not have a fix for at the time but now they have a fix for it and they won't fix my car because it's passed the warranty. They are very shady!!
    My car has about 50,000 miles on it and the door is falling apart and they admit it is a design defect and it occurring in a lot of the explorers but they still will not fix it. This is a $40,000 car!!! A fully loaded limited Ford Explorer. One of the problems with my car is a safety issue is what makes it even worse.. Exhaust leaks into the cabin of the car.
    Junk! And they're customer service is very rude!!!!!

    I have had a 2017 Explorer Limited for a year and a half it’s not bad, but it is all that will fit in my garage. I will never buy an engine with a hairdryer on it( turbo) or a 4 banger.so between those two mandatory items, I guess I will keep it a while as the new ones don’t meet the requirements other than size

    • @KB-bh9hp
      @KB-bh9hp 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      High sales are generally attributed to a long list of positive attributes unless it's surrounding a products initial buzz but this model has been out for what 6 or 7 years now people tend to be more objective and aware of product shortcomings at this point so sales actually increasing for this vehicle just demonstrates most of its complaints are nitpicking.

    • @adogg619
      @adogg619 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +John Leyman It's annoying how many people don't use their parking brake. Whether it's the hand lever or the foot pedal, they don't seem to think it's important until something goes wrong.

      But you're putting a lot of stress on the parking pin in the transmission. That's why the parking brake is there. Use it!

    The Explorer is still deserving of its best selling title, the rest of the class is trash, the Honda Pilot has a push button gear selector which will break over time, making you unable to shift the car

      Just an update, our 2017 explorer is about 5 and a half years old, not a single repair. Those 2016 pilots you spoke of had a lot of transmission and electrical issues in their first few model years, and even the oh so reliable Toyota has issues. My cousins Highlander is having engine issues, it's basically the same age as our explorer.

    Nice improvement of the car this time.The old car was like a sumo feeling vehicle,plus the features were not so much for the car to be the leader of the sub - compact crossover segment.The new one got tonnes of goodies and engine specs for it to still be one to be liked very much.
