Gotta say bro, I wouldn't buy that thing for a third of the price. What a snoozefest it seems to be. On the upside, your family unit is adorable and if your wife doesn't do voice over work, she must do so immediately! Such character and distinction in her speaking style. You Muzios are alright by me. Keep em coming guys.

Hey Michah.. Thanx for the review man. I own a 2019 Altima 2.0L VC-Turbo (Platinum).. Scarlet Red as the one you reviewed here. my 3rd Altima. Love it! I agree with you tho about the quality inside isn't exactly up to par with the gaps. I had that wood trim replaced with what's in the S model. Lol also I had taken my car to the dealership for that slight play in the steering too. They fixed it. I learned that the pro-pilot assist steering is mostly stubborn in city traffic. So I turn it on early and sometimes that helps it kick in faster/easier. It works great on interstate. Just an FYI as well about price.. It was $37.000.. But I only paid after Nissan rebates/incentives getting the dealer to mark it down...$22.000ish. Serious!

I think the SR interior is better than the other trims bc of the orange stitching and adding a premium package coulda got me the sunroof heated seats and something else

  • @ZCT808

I may not be a fancy helicopter flying car reviewer, like SOME people. But, I do have a job that ensures I put many more miles on various rental cars than my own vehicle, since I work a national position traveling all over America.
I rent from National because us frequent travelers get the pick of their nicer offerings, and you don't have to spend 20 minutes in line or talking to some trainee manager about how your day is going.
What I avoid driving is Nissan and Toyota. The latter, because I'm generally in some random town and need GPS, and so the only way I am renting a car without navigation is if it has Apple CarPlay. And Toyota were embarrassingly stubborn on that one. As for the former, despite being a past fan, I just don't get this brand any more at all.
Nissan seem to be going through some awkward teenage phase, where they don't seem to have any clue what they are trying to be. There is no cohesive look, weird angles here and there, ugly front end, and is that some kind of floating roof design on a sedan?
And if the confused ugly duckling looks are not bad enough, prepare to enter CVT hell. Just horrific.
If, unlike me, you don't have kids and live in a place where there is no snow, then sure, a sedan may be a reasonable choice. But of the sedans, I don't believe this is a good choice, there are better and certainly more attractive options available. Heck, go Honda and enjoy the endless slew of people wanting to buy it when you are done with it. Or buy Korean and enjoy the 100K warranty.

That accidental trip to Disneyland had me laughing. When was 18 and living and attending College in Ocala Florida back in 1988 I picked up this gal on a date. Her brother provided directions to the theatre (no Internet or GPS back then) and we started on our journey. I guess about 30 mins or so in we had figured out we had missed whichever exit we needed to get off at. How? Because at the time the clue we had missed the exit were signs to Walt Disney World in Orlando! How did I handle it? I asked her, "So you want to go to Disney World!" Thanks for reminding me of the funny memory Micah. 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I got a killer deal on a 2019 SL and after 1k miles I absolutely love it. You didn't mention in exchange for the cvt you get 31mpg average and 36 mpg highway regular gas even with AWD. 2 mpg better without awd. Pro pilot is fantastic. It reduces my stress levels from my bumper to bumper commute substantially. Also auto hold brake and rear park assist are great safety features. Decent trunk space. So quiet smooth ride and super comfy seats. Would like led tailights for sure but for my OTD price after rebates and deep discounts I'm hoping to keep my Altima for 12 years. Sound system is awesome in the SL trim too.

I hate the new design, not a fan of the squared off body lines, I hate the new grill, I hate the tail lights especially since they are not led. For a platinum trim it’s not very premium looking & not worth the money. The Camry XSE or say a Civic Touring trim is a better option

Great perspective with the family in tow. I have an Altima SV 19' for a company car and love it. Pro Pilot works perfectly and takes alot of fatigue from long drives. Also I get 40 MPG on the highway. Pretty impressive. I expected all the CVT haters to chime in however I have been driving them since 06 and dont mind them. In fact I prefer them to many of the conventional transmissions I have driven as I am in a bunch of different rentals for my job.

Phil Leidig - Most of these CVT haters have never driven one. They are just going by what Uncle Fred's best friend's son said once. And why they feel the need to stop by every Nissan review and throw shade is a real mystery. They must have too much time on their hands because I only watch videos of things I'm interested in. A shrinking market segment with tough competition from the Accord, Camry, and Mazda6. That's a challenging environment. Nissan offers a peppy turbo 4 and AWD as options. Yeah, it has a CVT but even Nissan's CVT is better than it used to be and most buyers in this segment couldn't care less as long as they're relieved of the tedium of hand/foot coordination. So what's not to like?
Nissan salesperson to customer: "Take a look at our new Altima. You can get a 250hp/273lb-ft torque with our turbo4 engine. And you can get "intelligent" AWD!"
Customer: "That's great! I'll take the turbo AWD model!"
Nissan salesperson: "Uhhh...well, there is one thing. You can't have a turbo engine AND AWD on the same car. Would you be interested in buying two? I'll speak to my manager about a volume discount."
And the trophy for the most boneheaded marketing decision for 2019? The Nissan Altima.

    • @foxtrot685
      @foxtrot685 5 ปีที่แล้ว

This was the smartest decision because Nissan made sure that the AWD option went to the volume leading engine, instead of the other way around... like Ford did with the Fusion and the 2.0 EcoBoost. That powertrain configuration was only at a 5% take rate because it's too costly. Conversely, here in Ohio I've yet to see a 2019 Altima without an AWD badge. Nissan marketing has said several times that they are listening to consumer feedback and are willing to offer the turbo with AWD but only if the market demands it so only time will tell.

The new Altima gets 10mpg better on the highway and is quicker than the old 2004. Forget about road noise lol. The new Altima you can barely hear rain on the road while it seems there was no insulation front the rain on the 2002-2006 Altima. Crusing on tmthe highway with any cvt Altima you cannot hear the engine but that old 4spd auto had you at 3k rpm or higher at 75mph compared to 2k rpm on the newer ones. I loved the old ones but they aren't superior nor are they faster than a newer 1 with a 3.5 and cvt. Unless you are just talking about the feel of the manual. That's all...

The car has an interesting design, however seemed to lost its way in quality and forward design without going overboard. Nissan’s build quality is in the toilet and will stick with the Honda Accord. Then again, a Nissan is just a knock Honda Accord.

  • @SilverScarletSpider
    @SilverScarletSpider 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Micah what do you have any opinions on the perceived psychological benefits of owning a AWD/4WD car?
I find amongst many friends and family that the ability to proclaim that their car is 4wd seems to inspire confidence and pride. Making it seemingly well worth the additional $2000-$6000 sticker price when optioned out, and the added cost of 1 to 5 mpg due to increased fuel consumption (depending on the make and model). However, this is often due to the common misconceptions about AWD vs 4WD and their impact on overall safety, vehicle stability/control, and tire grip often spread as false narratives fed by dealerships. Would it be wrong to burst their bubble?
Also, your kid definitely deserves her own microphone, she brings really good input to the table. 4:13
On the subject of blacked out pillars around windows and kinks, I personally prefer the black trim compared to chrome trim or matching paint trim. I feel it gives a sort of stripped/panda look almost like Spider-man’s costume or a web.

    • @ABCD-eg5ky

It's $1300 more and 2mpg cost. If you live in the snowbelt AWD is great. I put snow tires on my previous Fwd 2013 optima and that was great in the snow. But the AWD with snows will surely be even better! Just as good as a FAR less efficient suv would be!

They do have unique tests, like the visor test, box test, or small coffee test. You have lumbar support. Is that a test?
There's nothing inherently wrong with the Altima, but it's also not very special. Every year Consumer Reports shows Nissan has low owner satisfaction scores. I think it's because either for the same price or a little more, you can get a vehicle that you could love.

Mrs. Muzio, please wear your seatbelt at your hips. It will do terrible things to your organs in an accident the way you're wearing it.
Also, the safest speed you can go is probably ~55 mph. Research is split on if going faster causes more or fewer accidents, but *all* research agrees going faster increases your change of death or debilitating injury. The human body with woven nylon belts and airbags can only take so much before things go splat.
Regarding the car, I'm surprised Continental tires are the OEM. That's quite a leap for a base model.
I couldn't care less about Android Auto or Car Play, but the quality of Bluetooth and voice controls do matter to me! Also, hard controls for volume and climate control.

I had a 2019 Altima Platinum for about 3 months. History: I had a '15 Altima SL and it was a fantastic car. Very comfortable and quiet, and I got over 40 MPG on the highway. On a spur of the moment, I traded that car for a '16 Maxima. The Maxima was noisy with creaks and rattles and not as comfortable. It required 92 octane and in So CA, that hurts. When the lease was up, I got the '19 Altima. It was a disappointment. You pointed out the flimsy door panels...yep...with lots of creaks and rattles just like the Maxima. Sound deadening material helped, but still creaked and rattled. It would stop if you pushed against the armrest. It was mostly on the passenger side. Listening to any type of music intensified it. Also you pointed out the cheap hard plastic on the rear doors, which is new for 2019. The seats are about 2 inches narrower in the 2019 model compared to the previous generation. So it felt like I was sitting on the edge of the seats. The way the car drives is annoying. It simulates all the shifting before you even get to 30 MPH, and it does it quickly. No other Nissan drives that way. My Maxima, Altima, and Murano does not do that. Your SL does it at 6:10 in the video. While driving on the highway, it is impossible to ease off the accelerator to achieve high MPGs. The car immediately starts to slow down, which means you need to keep pressure on the pedal, dropping your fuel economy. I really wanted to like the car because it had many of the Maxima features, but it is a downgrade from the prior generation. Another downside was the responsiveness of the touchscreen stereo. I always had to tap things twice to get it to respond, even though it made the button tap sound on the first touch. So I traded it in for the 2019 Rogue SL, which is better in every way. Drives just like my old Altima. I lose a little MPGs, but I do get over 30 MPG easily on the highway.

Ive rented 2 new Altimas recently...the SL version. I liked the car overall and didn’t hate the CVT. The ‘stepped’ gears helped. I never got the steering assist to work very well - Pro Pilot wasn’t very Pro. My recent trip to BWI and I had a Honda Accord (LX only) but its steering assist was much better... I also noticed the infotainment screen in the Honda was much clearer. I always felt the Nissan screen was really muted in sunlight. Anyway, great review. Love the family inclusion in the video.

The one thing about the new Altima I find myself constantly noticing and commenting to myself about are the taillights. I find them very throwback cool. No clear lens, no ability to see the bulb, no LEDs, just a retroish vibe of most 80s vehicle taillights.

I have a 2019 Wrangler Sahara as a loaner until my CX-5 is back from the auto glass shop and it has the same steering wheel problem as the Altima, It really is as bad as it sounds it makes the car feel wobbly on the highway especially the wrangler since it’s a very tall vehicle and it already doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence at high speeds, great truck otherwise.
