  • This is rental car number 146 and today I'm driving the 2020 Nissan Altima S. This is a 4-door sedan that seats 5 and is pretty enjoyable to drive.
There are more details below, but I just wanted to quickly say ~thank you~ for watching my video. Please comment below and share your thoughts. Or just take a second and say 'Hey'. I'd love to hear from you. Cheers!

    ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
    Let's start with the basics:$1
    Type: 4-door Sedan
    Year: 2020
    Make: Nissan
    Model: Altima
    Trim: S
    Exterior Paint: Glacier White
    Interior: Charcol gray
    Wheels:
    MSRP: $24,100
    More on the trim levels:
    S at $24,100
    SR at $25,700
    SV at $27,880
    SL at $30,240
    Platinum at $32,180
    ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
    Under the hood:
    Drivetrain: Front Wheel Drive (FWD)
Engine: 2.5-liter Direct Injection DOHC 16-vale 4 cylinder engine
    Transmission: CVT (continuously variable transmission)
    Horsepower: 188 hp @ 6,000 rpm
    0 to 60:
    Fuel Type: Regular Unleaded Gasoline
    MPG City: 28 mog
    MPG Highway: 39 mpg
    Combined MPG: 32 mpg
    Fuel Cap Location: driver's side
    Fuel Tank Capacity: 16.2 gallons
    ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••
    Handling:
Turning at slow speeds: Great, easy to control. Easy to park. Turning radius was impressive, doing a u-turn was surprisingly easy (and enjoyable)
Turning at high speeds: Really good, hugs the roach. Feel very stable even at higher speeds cornering.
    Acceleration:
From a stop: Decent. The engine doesn't sound very powerful, but the acceleration is smooth and enjoyable.
While moving: Fair. There's about a 2-second delay from the time you hit the pedal until you feel the car speed up. It's about average in my experience.
    Cabin Noise:
At slow speeds: Okay. You can easily hear things outside the car, whether I wanted to or not. And I did need to increase the volume on my podcast to hear even when driving around 45 mph.
At high speeds: Okay. You do hear the wind moving through the cabin. And although outside noise is muffled, it still very noticeable.

Hello! Hope you're all safe and well. It's been a crazy couple of months, but I'm back to renting cars! Let me know what you think of the Altima. Especially how the engine shoulds when you accelerate hard. I think it sounds kinda wimpy, but it's been a while since I've been behind the wheel of a car (I barely drove for the last few months) so maybe I'm being a bit too harsh?

WOW! I just opened up the Consumer Reports 2020 Annual Auto Issue (April) on the magazine rack. The Altima BEAT BOTH the Camry & Accord in reliability! The Altima received a DOUBLE ARROW UP rating, the best rating. The Accord received an AVERAGE rating, while the Camry received a SINGLE ARROW UP rating. Great job Nissan!!!

@@disneyfan9099 I used to be an ardent advocate of Consumer Reports. I even have Annual Auto Issues since 1998! That is definitely no longer the case. In the past few years, I've noticed how blatantly biased CR has been toward certain brands like Toyota/Lexus, Subaru etc., so I stopped subscribing and rely more on other sources for reliability information. Regardless, the Altima is still a fantastic car. It doesn't have the mature ride of the Camry, but it doesn't have the Camry's lackadaisical, underwhelming transmission either. The Accord (base model) feels like a mixed bag of contradictions in the sloppy way it handles and shifts when driven spiritedly. Honda's 1.5 Earth Dreams turbo 4-cylinder (also in CR-V, Civic) has also been and will be problematic down the road with its' fatal oil fuel dilution defect. CR won't delve deeply into these issues in their reviews.

      @marco.morel04 4 ปีที่แล้ว

Craigslist Seller I believe the Camry got docked points from the 2 major engine recalls it had from when it was first introduced. The first one was that they made one of the pistons too big for the shaft it would sit in and could cause the engine to seize, the next one was that they cooled the blocks wrong and micro cracks formed which could also lead to engine seizure, it seems that since Toyota fixed those issues however it’s been very reliable

I rented this exact car this past September when my 2015 Chrysler 200c v6 was in the shop. I was impressed, but when decided to get rid of the Chrysler when finding the engine was failing along with many other issues, I found the Altima SV to be a much better deal. For very little more money, the SV offers so much over the base S. End of year deals had my 2019 SV down to $23k. Comes with a sunroof, 17"alum wheels over the 16 steel, the amazing ProPilot, LED lights, electric drivers side seat, dual zones HVAC, electronic parking brake with brake hold, better noise insulated windshield and more that I'm not going to list here. Just so much made this a great deal.

@@supersmash6058 I have not had any issues yet. Will admit though, the past few years I have not driven as much since I'm now teleworking. So it only has 40k miles just turned on it. GLAD to see and hear you again!!!Just some thoughts on the Altima: The new Altima, even in Base form, rocks! My friend & I recently flogged the Base models of both the 2019 Altima and 2019 Accord around for a couple days back-to-back. (They were both low mileage rentals. Altima had 6K miles, Accord had almost 4K.) We both came to the same conclusions: Dynamically, the new Altima was unexpectedly the hands-down winner, by far. The Altima feels more agile and tackles hard corners with far more confidence. It has a noticeably more responsive CVT (the Accord's CVT lagged between shifts, feeling like a Nissan CVT of the early 2000s). Nissan's latest version of the naturally-aspirated QR25DE engine felt more flexible and willing than the Accord's turbo engine. So fun! On the inside, the Altima Base model's larger infotainment screen was clearer and the audio system sounded and pounded the bass far better than the Accord's. Nissan's corporate and ubiquitous flat-bottom steering wheel design looks better than some in ultra luxury cars! The Altima's Zero-Gravity seats put the Accord's flat bottom seats to shame...even in the rear!!! So comfy! The Base model even has remote start!!! The exterior body lines and sculpting on the Altima are purposeful and thematic. The Accord's exterior styling is dizzyingly confusing, especially up close. The only zonks we gave the base Alti were the halogen headlamps and the 16" hubcaps. Luckily, both of those zonks can be remedied very easily with some 370Z wheels and a quick 15-minute swap to LED bulbs!!! Go Nissan!

I'd be happy with buying one because it has all of the features I'd want in a new car. Over the quarantine, I had the pleasure of driving a 2019 RAM 1500 Classic Big Horn Crew Cab HEMI 4X4 for a day with the longer bed to pick up some big items I bought off of eBay. I liked the truck.

CVT is one of the worst nissan transmissions.

Nissan has a problem.. I've owned two in the last 5 yrs.. First one, shame on Nissan.. Second one, shame on me. I don't recommend Nissan to anyone, because the CVT will fail. My first one failed at or around 80 thousand miles.. The second one failed just a few days ago, at 87K. It'll cost you around $3 grand to replace, and once the trans starts to slip, you'll get a P17F0 code.. which won't clear unless you can drive a cycle without the belt slipping.

Did you change the fluid at 30k miles like everyone recommends?

@@Sheepleton I did change the NS-3 fluid regularly.. but in the end it didn't help. When the steel belt slips, it's just a matter of time before it comes apart. Just the other day, I receaved a letter through the mail, stating the CVT warranty on my 2017 Nissan Altima was extended, and if the transmission had failed and/or been replaced by me the owner, I could get a refund.
