Aside from a great video, please make a tutorial/guide on how to get your game looking that stunning. It's just crazy how beautiful watching you race is.
I think there are 2 big reasons why the modern cars seem slower: 1) safety features. Self explanatory 2) refueling. The v10 car doesn’t have a fuel tank in the right size. If these cars raced as is and the v10 had to refuel… well the outcome would be a lot less dramatic
Not necessarily, since quali laps are done with very very low fuel and the weight of a mostly empty fuel tank could only give a tenth of time so ralfs lap was fast af, and even in game at the last laps the cars are significantly lighter with low fuel loads
One thing to note about the 2004 regs that the F2004 was running with is the fact that they qualify with thr fuel load they start the race with. The F2004 can be outqualified with low fuel glory runs on Saturday. Its not uncommon for the fastest race lap to be faster than the car's qualifying lap back then.
This may not be 100% accurate, but here goes. Kimi's pole (F2008) in Spain on the grooved tyres was a 1:21.813. That was with fuel. Massa set the fastest lap that weekend in Q2 1:20.584 with low fuel. The same year Ferrari tested the slicks during testing in Spain and recorded a time of 1:18.339. That's 2.2 seconds faster than the grooved tyres on Bridgestone Slicks. Also the Qualifying lap times improved in 2011 when Pirelli joined the sport. My guess would be that the V10s would be anywhere from 2.5 - 3 seconds a lap faster on slicks. Think the 2020 cars would still be a bit faster, but it's still amazing how great cars were from 18 years ago.
they weren't necessarily great, you have to realize that most of why those v10 cars can even bring a candle to 2020 cars is because of the low weight. everything else is drastically superior, from the engine output to the aerodynamics, you name it, they got it. had the regulations in 2020 been as lenient as those in 2004, (no halo, low weight, traction control, no fuel flow limit) those 2004 lap times would be absolutely annihilated.
I’d love to see a vintage F1 championship, where they make older cars safer. For example, 1970s spec aero and everything, but with 2020s safety standards, so a halo, HANS device, etc… Seeing classic tracks would also be cool.
v10 cars exist only for entertainment anyways, even the ones who own them doesn't drive them so everyone would be happier if they make a better sound i guess
imagine if they bring back the v10 with smaller displacement like 2.0l or 1.8l v10 with those hybrid system.. or or maybe they should give the teams more than 1 engine to choose like current v6 hybrid, small v8 hybrid, or small v10 hybrid. just add a power limiter so any engine can compete fairly :D it'll make f1 more interesting for sure!
Miss watching the V10s race live. The V10 era was pure racing magic at its best outside of the early 90s in my humble opinion. Luckily I got to see both eras.
The biggest advantage to these older cars is the smaller size and weight. The V10 sounds so much cooler but it doesn’t really make more power. Basically about the same but the new cars are so much bigger, they’re going to be slower. The new engines definitely don’t rev as high either. Fuel economy wasn’t a concern back then, now it’s very important. These engines now have to last longer too, also most likely taking away some performance in exchange for reliability.
@@michaelkeha Still wouldn't be able to touch the fuel efficiency of the new motors. Not only that, the current PU's are very restricted and have headroom for way more power if they were fuel unrestricted like the old V10's.
If the V10 raced against the hybrids it'd splutter out of fuel about 1/3rd race distance....or fuel save so hard it'd barely do touring car speeds. Even if allowed to refuel to 105kg it will hamstrung. If the modern cars could refuel and use 160kg of fuel they'd eat it alive.

I want F0, old engines, similar aero work with the size and weight of the older 2004 cars, modern tires, whatever turbo/supercharger the teams want, and as much fuel flow as they want. Let the cars go as fast as the driver can go.
Just give them a 4L V12, big tires, light weight, and moderate aero. Then they’d have lots of power and good noises as well as much more mechanical grip so you aren’t as reliant on clean air for grip. A lot of what makes the racing boring is dependence on aero for grip. The cars are fast with clean air, but can’t get close enough for a pass.
"V6 turbo Hybrid" "Low cost" Bullshit! 1 turbo hybrid costs about as much as 20 NA V10s. Thats why they could use so many engines back in the day. The competitive balance was also much better back then; independant teams could actually survive
@@deathtrooper2048They're limited on boost and fuel flow, can't even really push and sits on comfortably low RPM F1 until 2006 on the other hand had no RPM limit, thus was being pushed to the limit all the time If N/A engines were to have a certain limit, it would be very reliable as well
The cuts on the slicks were made because it got very fast, very clear that this V10's are beasts, and the cut slicks was to prevent them from being too fast. Ralf said this on his Sky germany commentary on a few occasions.
+ u have to recharge the battery 4 laps just to shoot a qualy lap, and you have to burn fuel just to charge the battery, the most clown shit ever seen@@willbb
like i mentioned on jimmys video, it might be worth a try to do the content manager tire swap. as far as i can tell, thats not what was done with this mod and see how it goes. i would definitely trust rss to get the tires much more correct.
I saw the F1 become what it is today. I'm not old but how I regret this time! Image 20 years of improvement of this machine, what a F1 we would have today.
The reason you were able to accelerate so fast compared to the others wasn't the traction control (well, yes, but not the entire truth). The slicks add more grip, and to top it all off, the cars being lighter makes it easier to accelerate given both in 2004 and nowadays they have approximately the same power.
I'm calling for Formula 1 to give us a real comparison as exhibition - put a driver that has driven those 2004 V10 monsters AND is currently on the grid (we know it's Fernando) on modern slicks. Unmodified classic car except the tires and set him loose to go all-out
i sincerely hope when the sustainable fuels come in in iirc 2026, that we can go back to running v10's again, probably newer v10's but still. can you imagine modern aerodynamics, DRS and all the other improvements over the years and then putting a screaming v10 with probably >1000 hp in the car, that's gonna be euphoric!
bringing back v10s would probably slow the cars down if teams still had to try to respect a engine allocation to which they are already struggling with so no just based on budget.
Now we just need these new technical improvements and find a way to shrink them down to the size of the old cars, tracks like monaco would improve so much if the cars get smaller.
We have to keep ralf´s time in perspective. While it is true, that his 1:08.170 would be the third fastest during the race, he would have been 20th out of 21 in fp1, last by over a second in quali on friday, first by half a second on fp2, and would be the fastest race lap in sprint
Yeah, but +100hp alone would cut the time by at least 3 seconds, and that’s without mentioning demo tyres and the fact that the F2004 was over a second faster by itself compared to the rest of the field.
we also have to keep in mind that ralf was never a tremendously fast driver and even if he was he wouldnt be pushing as you would push a hotlap in qualifying
@@UUUU-dn9wz Oh yes of course, i would not go against the fact that an f2004 is simply faster than any modern f1 car. On some tracks probably even with grooved tires. Just wanted to point outr that ralf wasn´t quite as fast as most believe.
Sorry but are we sure that Ralph pulled a 1:08? Because I've seen the video and he doesn't seem to be pushing that hard. The breaking point he uses is too early compared to nowadays cars. And I know that the aero charge is different, but he seems to be lifing so before the turn.... Then, the pole position from 03 (last year V10 f1 cars visited the A1 ring) is 1:09 and the fastest lap of the race 1:08 (both of them by MSC)... I'm afraid that it's too optimistic to get 1:08 in an exhibition event.
It's almost like "Simplify, then add lightness" is advice that should ACTUALLY be taken advantage of! I mean, god! Take the V10s, give them modern slicks with 15 or 17-inch wheels (18s are too big, but it was definitely time to move on from the 13s), as well as modern aero, blown diffusers, 8-speed transmissions, even better DRS (with free usage, no zones), and the simpler KERS system of the V8s, and that'd make for MUCH more exciting racing. If they HAVE to keep turbo V6, at least let them rev to the full 15k or better yet, 18k and bring them up to 2.0L with a 97mm bore and 45mm stroke to allow that.
Only thing is that they seem all the spec mockup provided by FIA, also V10's rear was already becoming a mess of winglets in 2003. Other than that, this video is a wet dream.

A lot of what makes the racing boring is dependence on aero for grip. The cars are fast with clean air, but can’t get close enough for a pass.
@@NBSV1 i agree and that would still be fun to watch, but I would be curious how bonkers some teams would go with aero.
"V6 turbo Hybrid"
"Low cost"
Bullshit! 1 turbo hybrid costs about as much as 20 NA V10s. Thats why they could use so many engines back in the day. The competitive balance was also much better back then; independant teams could actually survive
Though the V6s last way longer than the V10s.
@@deathtrooper2048They're limited on boost and fuel flow, can't even really push and sits on comfortably low RPM
F1 until 2006 on the other hand had no RPM limit, thus was being pushed to the limit all the time
If N/A engines were to have a certain limit, it would be very reliable as well
The cuts on the slicks were made because it got very fast, very clear that this V10's are beasts, and the cut slicks was to prevent them from being too fast. Ralf said this on his Sky germany commentary on a few occasions.
tbh i like the v8's because i started watching f1 in the around '08's and it's nostalgic nowadays.
It's actually disgusting what happened to f1. When you see how nimble and quick the cars were, you realise what we have lost.
Just wait til 2026 when f1 loses 50 percent of its viewership as it turns into a second Formula E series.
@@calmak11engines will be louder tbf
@@willbbwho cares? It'll be far slower, maybe barely ahead of F2
they won't be able to hit 300 kph in the race, that will be the humiliation for the green lobby brainwashed direction@@willbb
+ u have to recharge the battery 4 laps just to shoot a qualy lap, and you have to burn fuel just to charge the battery, the most clown shit ever seen@@willbb
Actually the cut slicks actually benefited them for the longevity of the slick as it helped it's cooling propertys from what I remember.
Slowest way to kill people is: kill their expectations.
christ this is impressive by ralf, those older mid 00's cars look so much agile and nimble than these boats we have now. i'm not talking about power.
That car with KERS, ERS and DRS would be insanely unstoppable.
0:53 That's Vince McMahon!
Gran turismo song running in the background is boosting everything up
like i mentioned on jimmys video, it might be worth a try to do the content manager tire swap. as far as i can tell, thats not what was done with this mod and see how it goes. i would definitely trust rss to get the tires much more correct.
I did not know Ralph did that this year!!!! Off to find it in TH-cam.
“Ah just listen to that”. My words exactly
I saw the F1 become what it is today. I'm not old but how I regret this time! Image 20 years of improvement of this machine, what a F1 we would have today.
"Gigachad older brother doesn't care about open holes" 😂
The size difference is incredible!!
My dream is to have the v10 with modern tyres and somehow get drs involved
And modern aero and KERS
The 2026 cars have to be at least or 80-90% the size of the ones we have today to enjoy some tighter racing
That Daniel burn got me 😂
I miss the exotic V10 and 12’s, more dangerous? Yes, twice much fun to watch ? Hell yes.
You sir know F1 V10 era is the fastest era
The size comparison of the cars is hilarious.😂
ohh man got a wonderful sleep with this v10 chad sound for 2 hours thanks
I feel like he first did the race and then decided the amount of laps.
I would definitely like to see a race with the best cars ever made from F1
I love when drs open at lap 1 😂😂
THE ULTIMATE LIST
80s- Lotus 98T or McLaren MP4/4
90s- Williams FW14B
00s- F2004
10s- RB7
20s- W11
I first would’ve liked to see a comparison between the old tires and the slicks
"riccy mate what are you doing, you've already ruined your career don't take mine with it" 💀
Hey Ermin How do Australians order monkies?
Amazon Prime, mate..... I guesss
LooooL 😂😂😂😂
The reason you were able to accelerate so fast compared to the others wasn't the traction control (well, yes, but not the entire truth). The slicks add more grip, and to top it all off, the cars being lighter makes it easier to accelerate given both in 2004 and nowadays they have approximately the same power.
The G forces a probably so high that the driver would black out xD
Not only the turns, but also the deceleration. Holy crap.
Bring the fun old cars back. Put slicks and DRS in them, and you'll have new generation monsters
I'm calling for Formula 1 to give us a real comparison as exhibition - put a driver that has driven those 2004 V10 monsters AND is currently on the grid (we know it's Fernando) on modern slicks. Unmodified classic car except the tires and set him loose to go all-out
Man got personal beef wif Daniel for tht entire 1 lap xD
i literally just wanted to watch the video again and it linked up perfectly with where I stopped at 5:25
He added one lap on top of the usual five because he did a voice over so he actually didn't overtake for the lead in the fine 2 corners
Ferrari F2002 on current slicks with a prime Micheal Schumacher and thats just unbeatable
i sincerely hope when the sustainable fuels come in in iirc 2026, that we can go back to running v10's again, probably newer v10's but still. can you imagine modern aerodynamics, DRS and all the other improvements over the years and then putting a screaming v10 with probably >1000 hp in the car, that's gonna be euphoric!
bringing back v10s would probably slow the cars down if teams still had to try to respect a engine allocation to which they are already struggling with so no just based on budget.
The size of the old cars is amazing. Much more room
@@ukrje yeah that’s true, 1:08 by itself is not impressive for a f1 car
Sorry but are we sure that Ralph pulled a 1:08? Because I've seen the video and he doesn't seem to be pushing that hard. The breaking point he uses is too early compared to nowadays cars. And I know that the aero charge is different, but he seems to be lifing so before the turn....
Then, the pole position from 03 (last year V10 f1 cars visited the A1 ring) is 1:09 and the fastest lap of the race 1:08 (both of them by MSC)... I'm afraid that it's too optimistic to get 1:08 in an exhibition event.
"We just burn more dead dinosaurs"
😂😂
Ralf's Ferrari... yup, nailed it...
Get this. Future F1 with turbo inline 5 engines with 16,000-18,000 RPM redlines.
The graphic is so good
This was fantastically interesting, dope.
wait, so you're telling me, that a guy that hasnt raced an F1 car for 14 years, beat most of the current f1 grip, with a de-tuned F1 car?
That V10 sound though! 😍
Put an invisible halo on the f2004 and I’ll watch f1 again
i just lost it at: We are just burning more dead dinosaurs. thats how we got stuff done in the 2000s.
Not a fan of the radio audio effect, otherwise amazing video as always
That's my favorite part lol
"Could you check the radio volume?"
2022 cars said, "we have a Drs"
Ferrari v10 be like "hold my bear"🔥🔥🔥
OMG. That's why I play 95% with this car on F1 2020!
Only thing is that they seem all the spec mockup provided by FIA, also V10's rear was already becoming a mess of winglets in 2003.
Other than that, this video is a wet dream.
Bring the sound back to F1
There's a theory that sustainable fuels could mean a return of these engines. In theory... Why not ❤️
Lmfao the launch control start on slicks is just bonkers
I would love to see the duel between the 2 fastest cars ever
F2004 vs Mercedes w11
Merc. Have the record in the Tracks but the Ferrari with new ruber Will be amazing in that time the tyres last the whole race
The old 2004 Ferrari still has a few race lap records like at Monza.
@@aronwhitesell9427 well ya it’s been proven that monza is an engine lap while the w11 was a downforce and grip car so that doesn’t surprise me if you race them on let’s say silver stone w11 would win
@@nateellis9096 you're probably right but put the 2004 cars on slicks, it would be close. Alonso said that slicks on the old cars would gain about 4 seconds a lap.
2:48 when you fully upgrade your car in real racing 3
Brilliant content as usual Mr. Hamsandwich!
