Hi. Could I try to do this with the caliper still attached to my scooter? I guess I could heat it up with it hanging down attached, but would I be able to hold it with my hands whilst trying to remove the pin with the wrench? One mechanic that I was going to take my scooter to said he wouldn't remove the caliper, but I have decided to buy the tools and try it myself. I don't have a vice/clamp and I do not know how to bleed, so need to try it without detaching the caliper.

Hi, I wouldn’t advise it as it will still be full of fluid if heating it up and when knocking whatever tool into the rounded hole it will cause stress to the caliper mountings if not clamped securely in something like a vice.
If you can find a tool that only requires gentle tapping to get to fit nice it might work, it really is a game of experience to judge. If in doubt, seek professional advice 👍

Ok thanks for the advice. The dealership mechanic definitely does this heating up whilst the caliper is still attached to the scooter though, so he must manage with fluid still in the caliper. I think I would be ok knocking the tool in. I can kind of rest it against a strong part of my scooter whilst doing it. I think I will try because these mechanics have taken all of my money for various things and I need to save on outgoings just lately
