Best video I've seen so far for how to wax your board. Can you also do a deep dive into how to tune/sharpen your edges? Incl. the different angles and which one should be used for which riding style? That would be awesome!
Great content as always. I normally drip wax on my boards (resulting in a lot of wax used, and an awful lot of scraping) but will give the block rubbing method a go from now on. How about a video on tuning edge angles and detuning the outer contact points?
Just got my first snowboard for Christmas. Went ahead and got some of the supplies to wax it and needless to say I’m excited to be able to take care of my board with this technique
Great video. Succinct and to the point. Yet you gave good explanations as well. You earned my sub! Would love to see your take on sharpening and detuning edges as well.
Thank for the useful tips. It helps me keep my board ready for the coming season. BTW, I am surprised you have a YONEX board, which is often available only in the Asian region and rarely seen in western countries.
Depends on what you want to do. I put on wax at the end of last season to help with board storage. It's the wax that came with my wax kit. Now that the season is open, instead of applying new wax, I just scraped that off for the time being. Works just as good for casual riding. After a couple more runs, I'll be applying the Purl wax I got. Having almost 60 days snowboarding last season and applying the wax for different temps, it's slightly noticeable. This was the first time using the wax from the kit and I wouldn't complain. I'm not any pro or anything.
Also for the tip and tail, maybe I’m just lazy but it’s a pain in the ass to scrape there.. at least me to me lol Also dont be like me this morning and scrape in a hurry and half ass it. You will NOT be faster and you will get stuck. I had to find some nice and steep stuff to overcome them that friction and get rid of that extra wax. Bummer way to start to the day hahah
initially it looked set at 115 degrees when first turned on starting at top right side of board. As iron progressed in mid-sections seemed to be between 143 - 150 degrees.
yes. You should know the average temprature of the place you are snowboarding at and use the wax that's closest on average. But not having the 100% correct temp wax isn't that importend. Just better.
I scrapped it they way tommie said you shouldnt do and used much pressure. Did i scrape off too much? Is there a way how i can tell if i did it right or if i basically scrubbed everything off again?
noticed it began at 115 degrees when iron was warming up. When iron progressed to middle section, temp varied from 143 - 150 degrees. Seems to be a good method to melt wax onto board moving quickly, but not too fast. The scraping part is really helpful, using just enough pressure in all areas to scrape small amounts off until its smooth. I think everyone is different since you don't want to remove too much, otherwise what's the point. I've heard of boarders applying maybe 2 layers within a couple days or put wax on, scrape minimally and let the snow on runs smooth it out.
@roy2195 also a cigar is biodegradable but we put it on the thrash. Mountains collect our water I dont want to drink wax. I think it should be on the thrash. If you can afford a snowboard workshop with vises you can also afford a vacum cleaner
I just picked up an yonex IRODORI, it’s super soft and good for presses and buttering ground tricks, it’s also really good for spin tricks. Its decent in the park but excels on flat ground
@@lronSausage at the end of the day I feel like it’s how fast do you wanna go, if I brushed right away is gonna be a little faster. But as you snowboard the snow is going to buff it out. Sometimes I don’t have time to do the whole process, but I’ll still benefit from waxing.
any of you guys tested different wax types including just parrafin or cheap ass general use waxes I wonder how much of this is a marketing gimmick or if its actually improves performance.
You control your speed by using your edges, when turning or carving. If you want to get stuck on any flat surface or if you want to have problems when turning your board --> don't wax otherwise wax it! Needless to say: WAX IT!

This would be a great help
Yes this would be awesome
Cool video. Been waxxing my boards since 1998 and it's always fun to watch something you do and ensure you're doing it right!

How about a video on tuning edge angles and detuning the outer contact points?
That crayon trick by giving it the little dab on the iron is insane, gonna save me so much wax. Also that brush trick works wonders too
Just waxed my board with this method. Saved me so much wax and elbow grease on removing excess wax. Thanks for sharing. 🎉
My man always coming at it with the best info! Lets go, Tommie!
Definitely doing this from now on. And please do video on tuning edges. Thanks for sharing

Have been using this method for a couple of years now and, as described, it is awesome!
welcome to the yonex gang 🐐
Hey Tommie! My Vizsla was also named Copper! Great dogs

I use purl wax iron, works great!
Great vid! Do you have a video about sharpening ?
Great video Tb 👍🤟
Thanks for the 15% discount🤙🏼
@tommy bro please make a sharpening video

Before waxing should you scrap off any previous wax so it's a fresh slate or doesn't really matter

Citrus base cleaner
I've had wax on there but find it's from my scraping enough off previous wax. Refine your technique

Is the point of scraping to scrape all of the wax off or to leave a thinner line of it on then just melting it down onto it would?
This video is so helpfull❤
Thoughts on waxing a new board out of the plastic?
@@fabes326 I would 💯 wax a brand new board before riding
Where did you get the Yonex Board? I can't find any place in the US that sells them. Could you do a Yonex board review?
@@umpalumpia723 search up powder bowl Nj, that’s where I got it.
I thought you had to have a small layer of wax still on the board lol i guess ive been doing it wrong 😂
What temp do you set your iron for?
initially it looked set at 115 degrees when first turned on starting at top right side of board. As iron progressed in mid-sections seemed to be between 143 - 150 degrees.
Thanks jimmy 🎉
What do you think about the Dynamics spray wax?
How would one determine the “snow temperature “? I assume it’s based on the temperature on the slopes?
yes. You should know the average temprature of the place you are snowboarding at and use the wax that's closest on average. But not having the 100% correct temp wax isn't that importend. Just better.
Do we need to remove the wax first?

I thought you’re gonna use blue there

What is so great about them? I’m not keeping up with gear.
Bindings off every time or just loosen the screws a little bit ? Or doesn’t even matter and can just leave them on
thoughts about the environmental impact of scraping outside directly into nature?
All the waxes i can find to buy online are labeled as bio-degradable so I'm assuming it's not an issue?

@@ANETOKILLE I agree
Please advise to use mask. Wax fumes are not good for your health
I wax almost every other time I board. Is that too much?
what temperature we have to set the iron?
The label on the wax you buy should tell you.
But hot enough to melt the wax, but cool enough it doesn't smoke.
Some temps will be around 110 to 120 F. As the other comment says, you don't want it smoking and the manufacturer will have suggested temps.
OMG, you have a yonex snowboard. How is it?
I just picked up an yonex IRODORI, it’s super soft and good for presses and buttering ground tricks, it’s also really good for spin tricks. Its decent in the park but excels on flat ground

never get a machine for a shop it dose not do work
