This is a great video. And this isn't a 'dis' on Near Mint Condition - more publishers I guess? But the very notion that a good reading order for Batman requires so much jumping in and out between Omnibuses (Omnibi?), as well as 'runs' by a particular author as well as between "Batman Detective Comics" and the "Batman" lines is so frustrating and confusing for a new reader. LOL I feel like there's a need a for a timeline/reading order for key events in Batman's history. Ie Year One, Killing Joke, the first appearance of Damian etc Does this exist anywhere?

I just finished court and city of owls, and just started on death of the family, and was like "Wait, what do you mean he cut his face of a year ago?!" So I watched this to realise that I need to start with Detective comics Vol 1! God dammit I hate all this flip flopping between titles and books! But thank you so much for doing these, Omar! With me complaining, I can only imagine how you felt while preparing to make this video! So thank you so much for the work you put in to this!
It could be much worse, you could be reading singles or be like me and want a complete rundown through his history, starting with Year One (one more in-depth than this one in some places). It took me months to put a reading order together back in 2016 and I still go back and fiddle with it. Online guides aren't as accurate as they should be. I've gone back and changed a book's ordering after reading it and realizing it makes no sense for something to happen there. Good luck, tho. We've all been there but it's worth it in the end.
Whew, that's a cartload of collected volumes! After watching all 4 parts, I have a few questions: - how much would it cost to buy everything that you presented so far? - where does "white knight", DC black label, (heavy?) metal and elseworlds fit into all this? - will there be a part 5 to your series?
Thanks for another great presentation. I immediately ordered all 9 volumes of Detective Comics and I greatly look forward to reading them. At the moment I'm reading Tom King's Batman Rebirth vol. 2. I think he's a good writer although there are ups and downs and his short Superman story in Action Comics #80 I thought was wonderful, clearly the best story in that collection. I just received his Superman: Up in the Sky and I look forward to reading it (while re-watching Smallville S4 for the third time, this time with my girlfriend, who also likes it).
Patiently waiting for DC to publish a collected Death of the Family without the editorial censorship... the story read so much better in the original issues rather than the sterilized version. Give us the tie-ins if you really want our love!
Here's a comparison, for curious minds. All the spoilers, of course. imgur.com/a/2NLIJ IMO the ending particularly suffered, but your mileage may vary. I also hate Gordon's clarification on what Batman is holding, and the watered down Joker dialogue saps alot of fun out the run. Hopefully they remedy this in future printings (they have an essential listed without a firm date, and the story could warrant an absolute - along w EndGame). PEACE & LOVE MIS MINTOS!!
@@NearMintCondition It's one of my favorite stories, and I adore the way Capullo draws shredface joker. Maybe you could do an episode on comic censorship sometime. Ha.
Thank you, Omar. Tynion has been doing an amazing job so far. Will be adding his omnibus to my wishlist collecting the Detective comic run. Waiting on Morrison vol 3 before taking the dive with the Batman Robin by Tomasi run omnibus. Batman just never ends which is good, still hoping they finish out the Snyder run and 2021 maybe we'll get No man's Land omnibus at last.

(I'm gonna be that person, please forgive me!) Assuming it's pronounced like the Scottish surname, it would be 'OH-gul-vee'. A+ for effort though :D. Thanks again for this beast of a series! It's a great resource for readers across the board.
Not a fan of Grant Morrison or Tom King on Batman, they have some good issues and ideas but overall I didn't enjoy there Batman stuff (Absolutley love them on other books though). Now Scott Snyder and James Tynion have been my favorite Batman writers in the last decade. Peter Tomasi is also really good.
I got Joker Endgame instead of Batman Endgame because it also includes the back up stories of the Batman issues and more importantly Batman annual #3 'Friends', that story is amazing, a completely twisted Joker tale :))
I'd also potentially insert Snyder's All-Star Batman volumes to the end of his New 52 run as it's sort of a continuation of that story, with his 'Last Knight on Earth' finishing it out.
Hey. I’m new to the whole comics thing. For now i’ve only read manga and stand alone comics and Invincible. So i want to start DC series past 52 thing and i want Batman. Can you please do a updated version because there seems to be a bunch of new omnibus. Starting DC or Marvel today is messing with my head. Manga so much easier frl
Great video, watching to learn a little about Batman, but my end goal was to find out what hardcover or ominous I needed to get to start off the tinion run...my goal is to start from the beginning of the latest batman which is on 111 or is the right # right now...or is there a collected series
Wow so much back and forward between books. Must've been exhausting to figure out for this reading order? What about Night of the Owl and Death in the family crossover? Do I have to read all non Batman/Detective issues or can I just stick to those two titles?
I started reading comics in general w/ BATMAN by Snyder & Capullo... But I still haven't started reading ANYTHING Rebirth comics yet, I need to catch up asap!! 😥
Omar couple questions. Will Batman and Robin eternal get an omni? Likewise, for the Tom King run should I get the five deluxe editions or wait for the inevitable omni (I know I’ll want the Omni but not sure how long the wait will be)? Lastly, as I haven’t read any of the rebirth stuff what other rebirth series would you recommend (flash, green arrow look interesting and I know I want the Superman omni by Gleason)? Thanks for the lengths you went to for this series. You’re the best resource on TH-cam for comics info and news bar none. Keep up the wonderful work.
Hi Omar, Do you know if TMNT Last Ronin will be collected in the IDW hardcover series? And what volume do you think it’ll be around 15-17? Love your work!
The downturn of Batman story quality starts with Tom King’s second half run. JT4’s fear state and Williamson’s shadow war were both pretty mediocre. I hope Zdarsky and Ram V can bring Batman comics back to the throne.
Instead of Tom King's run I just got the James Tynion Detective Comics Rebirth run since I feel like that is the true follow up to Snyder's run. I am so excited to get the new Tynion run in hardcover.
The Andy Kubert Robin book is a future story. How Damien comes back is part of Batman & Robin and should be in the Tomasi Omnibus. It’s where Bruce goes to Apokolips in the Hellbat armor.
I own the snyder run in tpb... but why are your hardcover editions so colorful? Is there a difference between the editions in terms of how the colors pop? 🤔
Mate i Love what u did with the reading order of Batman. As a Huge Batman fan i enjoyed watching all of your 4 vids. Thank you for that.. but there's only one thing that got me a bit confused. That's the part where Robin (Damian Wayne) dies and how he's coming back from the dead. U said that we can read in "Damian: son of Batman" how Damian returns, but as far as i can remember that comic book (SPOILER ALERT) shows us a older Damian Wayne who's taking over the cowl and becomes the Batman. In the Omnibus "Batman & Robin" itself we can see how Robin returns from the dead after he got killed in "Batman Incorporated"..
Hey Omar! Great video series, thanks a lot man! How come you collected N52 Detective comics in TP and not HC like Snyder's run. I do not have them yet and I don't know in which format should i buy them. Or maybe we should wait for an omnibus...???? Is there a chance for that? Also can't wait for Batman & Robin Eternal Omnibus!
I’ve just done a quick mapping and do you think there will be a total of 8 volumes of Dark Knight Detective series and 7 for Caped Crusader? That would take us up to Knightfall.
Great video Omar. This is exhaustive work. I bought the New 52 Batman but am now tempted to get N52 Detective and the Tomasi Batman & Robin Omnibus. Also I bought the Deluxe Detective Rebirth but the trades of Batman Rebirth and this is ongoing. The paper quality did change from gloss to matte with TPB Volume 8 and has been this way ever since. I noticed you stopped you video at Batman Deluxe Vol. 5 (which are TPB's 9 & 10). I have Volume 11 and there's a HC for vol. 12 but I am waiting on the trade for this because, you know, consistency. I wish I had known about the Deluxe HC's before I started buying the trades. Doh! Great work as always mate 😎👍 PS. What was the name of the second Batman/Flash crossover with issues #64 & 65. These aren't in my Batman Volume 10 trade. Were they in a separate trade/HC like "The Button"? Cheers mate. 😏
Omar where does the Gates of Gotham by Scott Synder fit exactly in this reading order ? I could not figure it out, thank you in advance for the answer.
Omar, a great review, and wanted to ask. So, getting the BATMAN: THE RISE AND FALL OF THE BATMEN OMNIBUS is a must to have for all Batman fans out there?
Good evening, Uncanny Omar, thanks for the video and making me see how far away I am from reading and collecting lol, just kidding. So, there is going to be a new Batman detective comic omni. ¿dirías que ese omni sería mejor comprar en lugar de los Dc rebirth deluxe?
Just when I was just going to Willy Nilly buy the Snyder Batman Omni and just read. No. I’ll have to watch this all over again and just go for all the Batman stuff another time. Oy vey.

Its torcher waiting for that Robin reading order!
It will come. :)
@@theddbrosgaming8085 hey, would you be ready to share your reading order? I know its asking a looot, but it never hurts to ask
I got into Batman and robin new 52, didn't expect to enjoy it because of the reviews lol. Solid.
I'm so glad you got into Batman.
Whew, that's a cartload of collected volumes! After watching all 4 parts, I have a few questions:
- how much would it cost to buy everything that you presented so far?
- where does "white knight", DC black label, (heavy?) metal and elseworlds fit into all this?
- will there be a part 5 to your series?
for the metal question 24:23
Thanks for another great presentation. I immediately ordered all 9 volumes of Detective Comics and I greatly look forward to reading them. At the moment I'm reading Tom King's Batman Rebirth vol. 2. I think he's a good writer although there are ups and downs and his short Superman story in Action Comics #80 I thought was wonderful, clearly the best story in that collection. I just received his Superman: Up in the Sky and I look forward to reading it (while re-watching Smallville S4 for the third time, this time with my girlfriend, who also likes it).
Thank you so much. His Up in the Sky is one of my favorite books this year. I'm glad your lady is enjoying Smallville.
YES
You are officially my hero
@NearMintCondition
What would be the best reading order just for the Batman Absolute editions? Ty for your great content 😘
Thank you so much !!!
Thank you so much for sharing those. Who knows what DC will do.
Thank you so much and one day I too hope for a No Man's Land Omnibus.
@@NearMintCondition we made it and have No Man's Land omnibus solicited so amazing.
A great hard work behind the scenes 😜😜😃☺️ 🙏🙏🙏
Hey Omar, loved this reading order! You said there’s a written document on Patreon, is that in a higher tier or something? I don’t see it. I’m in the $10 tier.
It will be out later this week. After the episode goes up. I think it’s for all our patrons :)

@@NearMintCondition I just finished reading it yesterday.
Speechless....
Great 4-part video!
Thank you so much.
I felt NEW 52 period was best period for DC comics, where everything was Awesome.
(I'm gonna be that person, please forgive me!) Assuming it's pronounced like the Scottish surname, it would be 'OH-gul-vee'. A+ for effort though :D. Thanks again for this beast of a series! It's a great resource for readers across the board.
Please Please always be that person. :) Thank you for the correction.
Thank you so much for this!
Than you for watching.
Ummm...🤔...this was some mind binding ish, because I couldn't make any sense outta this...😵💫💯✔️
Welcome to the Morrison era :)
Dude thank you
I got Joker Endgame instead of Batman Endgame because it also includes the back up stories of the Batman issues and more importantly Batman annual #3 'Friends', that story is amazing, a completely twisted Joker tale :))
I thought about getting Joker Endgame, but got the omnibus.
Have you considered making a part five to include the newest run?
UOmar, I would love to see a Batman Beyond reading order from you. These were great Batman videos and thanks for it. Cheers!
Brother, I haven't picked up any of the trades...as I'm holding strong for an omnibus.
@@NearMintCondition That would be incredible to see it in omnibus form. Let's hope so one day. Thanks.
@@NearMintCondition Now that Jurgens run is complete its perfect just to go with a massive Batman Beyond omnibus since DC loves their omnis thick!!
I'd also potentially insert Snyder's All-Star Batman volumes to the end of his New 52 run as it's sort of a continuation of that story, with his 'Last Knight on Earth' finishing it out.
I almost did, but didn't want to confuse any new readers on Last Knight. :)
I’m an older fan and it still confuses me lol. I’ve used ChatGPT to help but it’s not always super accurate.
You don’t have to. Everything is already included in the omnibus that you NEED to read. Yeah lots going back and forth. :) I need a beer.
@@NearMintCondition thanks everything you do, sir.
Hi Omar,
Do you know if TMNT Last Ronin will be collected in the IDW hardcover series? And what volume do you think it’ll be around 15-17?
Love your work!
It should be around volume 15. For sure, my friend.
Near Mint Condition why do you think it will be included? Because it’s a different continuity.
This is the most usefull video I have ever seen.
Thank you so much.
Where would Batman Dark Knight vs White Knight go? Would it go immediately after Batman & Robin or somewhere else?
Could u do an updated version tacking on top of this part 4 for the new stuff that has come out since then
The downturn of Batman story quality starts with Tom King’s second half run.
Mannn, Do you really need to read Vol 6 The Graveyard shift? Some people say's I should skip it? Should I? Cause I wanna save some money...
The Andy Kubert Robin book is a future story. How Damien comes back is part of Batman & Robin and should be in the Tomasi Omnibus. It’s where Bruce goes to Apokolips in the Hellbat armor.
But there's also a Robin: Son of Batman series. It takes place after Damian comes back. There's 2 TPBs of the story.
Marcelo Ramos yeah I think Omar got confused. The Andy Kubert story is pretty, but not any good
You are right. It was the Son of Batman series and I could have sworn Kubert drew it.
You are 100% right, for some reason I thought Damian: Son of Batman laid down the clue as to how he made it back.
I think it's time for a fifth part 🔥
Agreed, I’m wrapping up Tom King’s run and don’t know where to go next lol
@@RedRobinYUMMwhere’d you end up going from there, did you just continue on the rebirth run?
I’ve just done a quick mapping and do you think there will be a total of 8 volumes of Dark Knight Detective series and 7 for Caped Crusader?
That would take us up to Knightfall.
You are correct sir. If they include the one shots and even Sword of Azrael.
Near Mint Condition sword of Azrael! Does DC know that series existed?
Definitely late to the party buuuut if you see this. Batman Beyond reading order????
Doh! Great work as always mate 😎👍
PS. What was the name of the second Batman/Flash crossover with issues #64 & 65. These aren't in my Batman Volume 10 trade. Were they in a separate trade/HC like "The Button"? Cheers mate. 😏
Where would the Paul Dini Omni fit in this reading order?
I just hope we get a Batman and Robin eternal omnibus or at least both books in deluxe oversize hardcover
Part 4! Sweeeeeeet!
Omar where does the Gates of Gotham by Scott Synder fit exactly in this reading order ? I could not figure it out, thank you in advance for the answer.
Hey all ! Where does the dark knight new 52 series fall into all this ?
How to find 1st Appearance of Damon Wayne, is single Issue or a Complete Collection?
Hey Omar! Would you recommend justice league new 52 or superman new 52?
Part 5?
Omar, a great review, and wanted to ask. So, getting the BATMAN: THE RISE AND FALL OF THE BATMEN OMNIBUS is a must to have for all Batman fans out there?
In my humble opinion. Yes sir.
Where does the black and white should be read and Gotham central as per your suggestion"""***!??
Just when I was just going to Willy Nilly buy the Snyder Batman Omni and just read. No. I’ll have to watch this all over again and just go for all the Batman stuff another time. Oy vey.
Whenever it’s finished I wanna see a omnibus of Batman Rebirth
I hope we get a couple.
