- In this video, I'm going to show you the metal Orlock gang from 1995, and how I painted them up. I'll be telling my story of how I got into it originally, my plans for the future and reflecting on some associated rules and such from the first edition of the game.

Who doesn't like the songs?!? It's half the reason I'm here, what other hobby channel both relaxes and entertains?
You would be surprised at some messages I get at folks expressing their displeasure.
@@Miniscape-wh40k I still find myself singing that old classic "Abaddon" keep it up!
@@gavin1mack Aba dabba dabba dabba don!
@@Miniscape-wh40kwell those sad-sacks can go be miserable elsewhere.
Battletank predator, armour of the space marines!
@@Miniscape-wh40k people really can't take a bit of silly can they? If you don't like it, first you have no taste and two just skip, no one makes you watch it.
I think the songs are great fun and my daughter had a giggle when she heard daddy's phone singing like her friends.
Now we’re getting into the good stuff.
Retromunda all the way!
OH YES that is so cool afte all these chaos *ROFLOL* some "normal" guys =)
have to search for mine AND get someone to play!
greetings from northern germany
The five o’clock shadow came out great, love that idea
Thank you buddy
My Imperial Guard Regiment was supposed to be from Necromunda, and of course I used this as an excuse to mix in lots of Necromunda gangers to give the Regiment some flavour :D.
Who doesn't like the songs? This is the best yet - kudos to your backing singers
Ah Excellent, a new upload from one of my favorite Oldhammer youtubers.
This will certainly be added to the list if videos I rewatch every few months to get my fix.😂
Hope you enjoy!
A true family channel.
"... sound like a night out in [REDACTED]." 😄😄😄
🎶 "Heads, shoulders, knuckles, nose, and cheekbones." 🎶
That's a smashing looking gang of Orlocks. The Juves are particularly nice minis.
The Minisodes Singers were a real treat.
*Miniscape singers. Thanks though.
@@Miniscape-wh40k Sorry, I was watching Minisodes yesterday; and I really enjoy both of your channels for their chill and retro charms.
@@euansmith3699 no worries 😊
I still have all my Necromunda gangs. Those Orlocks mixed and matched well with the Catachan guardsmen. Had the most fun with the Goliaths though. Had endless fun sculpting silly hats or haircuts on the monopose plastic ones, Top hats, Sombreros, giant afros, cowboy Stetsons etc.
Hat sculpting sounds fun
DUDE. Get out of my head! You answered so many questions I was looking for this morning that its weird. LOVE your Oldhammer stuff
Do you charge rent for being in your head? 😝
You had me at the thumbnail. Some of my most enjoyable and memorable table top memories come from OG Necromunda, and Orlocks were my boys
Please keep this series of Necromunda going, it's amazing
Thanks. I will try.
No one should be watching your videos if the don’t like the songs. Great video. This edition of Necromunda was the best time I had as a teen playing floor hammer. The 3d card buildings were so good.
If you got the heavy bolter heavy... use it! 60 credits for the dude, 180 for the weapon, that's 240. And 5 credits for the stash. Laser weapons are very reliable, so maybe the lasgun ganger can do without the laspistol, and the heavy could use it as a backup when he eventually rolls poorly with the heavy bolter. I can't wait to see what you do with the Goliaths!
Statistically the heavy stubber is the most efficient heavy weapon in the basic game and the Las Cannon is the most inefficient. This is based on “bang for your buck”. I don’t like giving the heavy bolter to a starting gang. It is expensive and, in my experience, always seems to jam the first time I use it. Later when you have access to “reloads” the Heavy bolter is a fun option just for the damage it can dish out.
@@theroguegeneralhunter2206 that's true, the heavy bolter is probably the least reliable weapon in the game. However he asked what he should add to the gang and since he already has the miniature... he could do another video painting it to expand the gang.
Awesome! I completed a project last year to paint all the OG Necromunda metal gangs i.e. the houses - not ratskins or spire hunters etc. If it wasn't TH-cam I'd show you the family photo. Absolutely loved the project.
wow i was 10 years old when that came out. love your content man, please never stop.
How on earth did I miss this episode😢 glad I'm caught up now. I loved 1st edition of necromunda Thank-you
An absolute delight
🤩
Loved the video and the song! Please keep em coming
I know exactly how you feel about the Legion of the Damned Box. I had them too, sold them around 2010, and I hate myself for being that stupid.😂 They shall come back in desperate times, when all Hope is lost…💪🏻 Anyway, great video as ever Brother Miniscape.
Cheers
Glad you liked the video. I hope the legion does return for you, and for I also.
Did the same myself with a few boxes I managed to pick up. Don't get me wrong, it wasn't like I was doing anything with them at the time and I certainly needed to be disciplined when it came to choosing projects, but this was one of the things that I regret selling, even if it was at a considerable profit.
The songs are what we're all really here for. Also I had the metal Orlock gang, now sold, but in the first game one of my autopistol armed juves managed to get so much experience he nearly challenged for gang leadership. And what's been happening at the Carlisle store?
A student stole thousand of pounds worth of models
@@Miniscape-wh40k
Just surprised I'd not heard anything about that, but then I am very unsociable.🙂Now back to the singing.
Always play painted! The only principle there is - apart from war.
Nice gang you got there! Also thanks for the other comments! I got three painted Orlocks. Mayby it's a good idea to paint one more tonight
And I didn't know your cup is the best person ever. Good to know!
My wife bought me that cup so that's her opinion 😄
Definitely always play painted. Otherwise, what motivates you to get them painted?
@@Bluecho4 I'm motivated to paint anyways. That's the reason I got 2000 painted minis. But yes, playing painted comes on top. :)
I find these videos calming, and centering for my gaming. Thanks!
Great paintjob! Love how you've brought out the punkish aesthetic of classic necromunda
Thank you! Cheers!
Necromunda is a funny one for me. I never owned it and have never played it, but I still find it very nostalgic. It was present in loads of the White Dwarfs I was reading at the time, and I loved reading the battle reports and stories about the game. Looking forward to more of your Necromunda content.
Same for me. I thought it looked fun, but didn't know anybody who played it.
Thanks to that song, I have no choice but to repaint all my Orlocks with blue denim jeans now... Great video as usual. Love the walk down memory lane. As for what to do next? Double down on Orlocks! Moar! Moar! While the newer versions are less characterful, the idea of a vehicle gang in the Ash Wastes is undeniably cool.
a superb video yet again. love the Miniminiscape backup singers, keep it up!
Thank you for showing my minis 😊 Great looking gang!
Thank you for letting me 😊
It's so fun to see all these old models again (or for the first time, in some cases)!
🤩
Amazing! This is a piece of art. Thank you for the entertainment. I am now interested in necromunda 😂😭
Glad you enjoyed it!
Oh i remember that issue!
That was how I got into Necromunda as well.
I loved the Cawdor ones.
I always used the autopistol knife/sword guy as my starter leader... when he 'upgraded' to power axe, that model could be used for a graduated Youth... ah the circle of life in the underhive.
btw: For a campaign, always add more Gangers. More Gangers = more creds after battle. If you don't have enough roadmen to hustle for you, you end up in a downward spiral. For one-offs, hired guns are fun to add in to change things around.
Cool idea
I always loved the paint jobs in the books. The lush, grassy battlegrounds of hive primus. Gang came out great! And love that Necromunda terrain in the background of the glamour shots at the end.
Thanks so much!
Great video! This video made me go into the basement and bring up my Necromunda pile of unrealized opportunity to see what I had. I have the same box of metal Orlocks, metal Eschers, Mad Donna, and Jericho & Scrips unpainted. I have the Legion of the Damned metal figs plus their Dreadnaught but those are painted and in the display case.
Great collection
I used to play Necromunda, and I had the Orlocks from this video. I had most of the gangs.
I love watching these videos and having a trip down memory lane.
I also regret selling off my armies and gangs.
That's why I almost never sell large amounts of my models.
What a hit of nostalgia - this was my childhood Necromunda gang as well, though sadly none of mine ever got painted. Always great to see classic models getting some love!
🤩
Your channel just goes from strength to strength mate, thanks for all your hard work
i’m currently doing the same as you and trying to get back all the classic minis i had as a young man in the late 80’s early 90’s and have just put the finishing touches to my heresy dark angels painted using the same colours i used on my rogue trader army back in the day
You're very kind. Thank you 😊
Looking very nice! Always wanted to get into Necromunda more, but thats my inner RPG player!
Feel the same way you did about the Legion as I did when I sold my classic arbites and enforcers.
Fantastic as always bro 👌❤️🔥
Thanks 🔥
Hahaha, fantastic! I picked up a copy of WD190 with the Goliath on the front and put a Goliath gang together on the basis of that. Smashing vid, lovely stuff.
Awesome. Thank you.
i personally always loved saving credits for those rare item rolls. nothing like rolling up something crazy and actually having the creds to buy it
Awesome! I love old Necromunda as much as I love old 40k 2nd ed. I hoarded a bunch I never used and maybe 20 years ago a small board/hobby games store here in the outskirts of Stockholm where I live had a ton of old Necromunda stuff they wanted to get rid of and sold on the cheap so I hoarded some more even though I hadn't a campaign going or anything anymore. Suffice to say I could field most of the gangs and have the numbers to let the gangs grow as well. Also have plenty hired guns. I only have a Spyre or two I think and only a pit slave or two so I guess I couldn't field those (there were rules for Pit slaves as an outlaw gang in a White Dwarf). A mate of mine recently expressed a wish to take up Necromunda again, maybe that will happen.
Anyway, I played Escher and The Redemptionist Crusade in my day. Great fun! Great vid, looking forward to the Goliath video and the song was entertaining as always!
Wonderful. Sounds like quite the hoard you have.
I never read a comment in this channel saying they don't like the songs. I'm sure some people skip them but c'mon, that and the retro painting are the channel's trademark.
The worst comments have to go through moderation
A great sing along with the family at the end :D
Also, Manstoppers are always good for shotguns, strength 4 weapons are a real bonus. Dum-dum on stub pistols are also decent.. and are funny with the risk of exploding.
I shall look at those options again. Glad you liked the video.
i quite love the base, looks like rubble!
I buy all my models secondhand, and it's amazing how most of them still have the mold lines.
I originally went with Orlock until the underhive update dropped and we got all those extra amazing Ratskin sculpts, that was it for me, I was an underhive dweller.
Great video, mate. Have a few gangers somewhere. Ordered individual chaps that I thought would look good as Nurgle cultists. Loved the backing singers that joined you in the outro.👍😄
Thanks so much
They look great! I kind of wish my buddies and I would have tried Necromunda back in the day.
Great vid! I still have my original Orlocks and the paintjob still holds up after all these years. I also have all the original books including the Outlanders supplement.
Woop
That five o'clock shadow looks great 👍
He says thanks, he grew it himself
I had two sets of Necromunda. I gave away and/or traded off all the plastic Orlocks and Goliaths that came in the box. But I still have my Escher and Adeptus Arbites plus a few random Ratskins and other gangers.
I've still got the terrain, AAMOF I've got three sets, since at one time they sold the terrain set separately. Plus the couple of buildings from the expansion set.
I’m really only interested in the more contemporary grimdark style for my own models but man that is a beautiful retro paint job. Adding the little bit of facial hair and color to the lips really brought him to life
I fell in love with those original metal Orlocks as soon as I saw them back in 95. I've played all the main houses over the years, but I was straight into Orlocks again for Newcromunda in the 2017 reboot.
Greetings and salutations! That was an enjoyable video. I never played Necromunda but I hade some plans about making an irregular IG sqad based on the Orlocks. Never progressed beyond the planning stage however. Thank you and all the best, Billi.
Thanks Billi. It sounds like a good hobby idea.
I love OG Necromunda so much, please do with some of the terrain what you did with the card terrain from the 2nd edition WH40k box!
I'll try 😉
I went to the Games Day in Birmingham, 1995 to get this box but all they had was a few juve blisters left.
I was there that year. I was travelling down in one of the GW organised buses that left from a GW store. They let us buy the Necro boxset in the store before we set off. I read all the rulebooks on the journey there and back. Glad I did because stuff sold out really quickly at the event, as you said.
@@katfezza4570 I can't imagine the mess of cellophane on that bus 🤣
And lo, it was not the oil companies that destroyed the earth, it was the teenage nerds and their conventions. 🤣
Those faces are fantastically painted.
You're very kind
I’ve been back into N95 for about a year and I’ve collected and painted Van Saar, Goliath and Escher gangs. I’ve got some Cawdor but not enough for a full gang list rn. I also just got a sweet deal on the collected WD Necromunda articles book, Battles of the Underhive. Just wish I could find more than a couple of folks for my campaign.
I would join your campaign but I reckon we don't live anywhere near each other
Gorgeous!
Excellent vid as always!
Those maximum values are the stats of a human Mighty Hero in second edition, for instance an imperial Guard Colonel. The 2nd ed rulebook specifies at one point how the stats for veterans/champions, minor heros and mighty heros differ from the baseline of troopers. I find them a very nice detail, and you see them pop up in places you wouldn't expect. For example, the statline of a Hive Tyrant is exactly what a psyker lord or 4th level psyker version of a tyranid warrior would have.
Good choice with the Orlocks, and it is always a good time to continue with your childhood choice. When I looked at the necromunda models in my dad's White Dwarfs, the range had already been updated. There was only one gang I wished I had been in a place to grab: the Eschers, the only one that Jes Goodwin designed. I specifically wanted the plasma gunner with the braid and gasmask, I thought that was the best Necromunda mini ever. I have her now, and all the contemporary company she could need, though mine is missing her backpack and has a heavy stubber. Not a big loss, I think it's the better choice really.
Great video. Nice paint job too. And good song too.
Re the gang. You probably want at least 5 starting gangers, you’ll have 5 territory’s and will want to work as many as you can for income after each scrap; but if your Ganger is taken out of action they can’t work territories. So it’s good to have 5-6 gangers to start with or you might struggle to raise income 👍🏻
Good advice. Thanks mate.
Great and wholesome mate !!!
Thank you my friend
That pain of selling off stuff and regreting it years later is very familiar.
I'm in the process of buying old playstation games which I used to own but sold to game stores.
It's quite bizarre how expensive second hand copies of PS1 games have gotten. Some cost more than a newly released PS5 game 😄
Really good job on the painting.
Hello ! Miniscape ! OH it get s better and better AND much more better YES Necromunda i have the box but just the plastic Orlocks :(
i think i can find them... hope can do a video even when only on a turnTabel...
THANK YOU so much after all these days a big smile on my face =) )
greetings
I still have these models and have painted the juves to match my current Orlock gang.
Kit bashes were very much encouraged in old necromunda. Some custom gang members might be a fun video, and a decent use for your remaining credits!
Thanks for the tips!
Love the song! So cute.
Great models!
Necromunda (1e) and 2e are quite compatible. My friends and I are going to try using the Necromunda rules to do some 2e "kill-team." We'll get some gangs together eventually...
Scifi Warriors coming out to play. Thanks for another zen video.
I remember always thinking the Orlock heavy bolter was such a great mini despite the gun being pretty unreliable in the game. When the Space Marine devastators got refreshed they gained belt fed heavy bolters just like that guy.
I do love the old Necromunda models.
When not being used for Necromunda, I use them as hive militia/ conscripts for my Steel Legion IG 🙂
Great idea
I loved that song!
And it loves you for your kind words
Very nice! Lovely paintjob, especially the stubble! And the concrete bases are cool. I always imagined there weren’t many nice green lawns in the underhive? 😂
With the Orlocks coming from the iron mining slag pits, some nice orange streaks of watery oxide rich run-off would really make those bases pop.
Yes. Shame.
Necromunda Metals were the greatest Chaos Cultists/Imperial Guard Conscripts ever made....
I always liked having plenty of Juves, because then you can allow the random advance rolls to develop their character - one might roll two increases of WS and be a close combat specialist, for example, but still as hopeless at shooting as the day he joined the gang. But I think you do need the gangers to work your territory and generate more credits as well.
That's a great tip regarding juves
You should buy special equipment with your extra cash. I haven't played Necromunda but in Mordheim the special arrows, lucky charms and such go a long way. Get any type of equipment that allows you to re-roll saving throws or ammo that lowers your opponent's armor saving throws, toughness rolls, injury rolls and such. The special equipment will do all the work for you and you won't regret it. The key to victory is to spend more money on trinkets like that and to use them before your opponent does.
Necromunda looks sweet! I'd love to proxy my Jakhals as a necromunda gang
Do it
Necromunda is in my list too.
Goliath, Escher, Scavvies, Redemption, Ratkin or Skavvies for me though.
Oh and not forgetting the Spyres.
Awesome, I always had a distant interest in Necromunda but nobody i knew played it and I never saw it in stores aside from the wayward blister pack. That terrain behind the gangers is excellent, any chance of a video on it?
Thank you. I'm not sure it's big enough for a whole video but I can feature it as part of another necromunda video I suppose. I'll have a think.
@@Miniscape-wh40k Cool, I know it takes a surprising amount of work to put together videos so if you find yourself in a rare moment of needing to come up with something, you're sorted :)
I hunt mould lines! lol They are my nemesis. And yes, I often find them still intact on old Ebay finds.
Great video, hope you'll inform us how's the campaign goes
That was the very first issue of White Dwarf I bought too!
First ed necromunda was everything to me as a 10 year old in the 90s
I'd love to see that terrain you have in the background. Obviously scratch built, but looks skookum.
If you have a look through my Instagram, it's on there
I never played Necromunda but I am interested with this latest introduction of a Genestealer infiltration. I had wondered how the early days of an infestation would play out before the 'Authorities' had to request assistance from off planet 😊
Jsut got one of those boxes recently. missing the leader and a juve. I'm going to use a catachan sergeant as the leader, the Iron Tigers ride again (only cost me 25 quid with the original box)
Oh, gang warfare in 40k, fun with a song!
I found out quite early on that you can cheese win the game fairly consistently by just spending all of your stash after every game on basic gangers with shotguns and just swamp your enemy with numbers. After a few games you can end up with too many guys for them to beat you. We limited the amount of gangers to about 15 after that if remember correctly
Love what you did with the bases. Though am torn between the blue-grey look of concrete from 2nd ed, and the dirty grey look of concrete from 3rd ed.
Thank you. I prefer a shade of blue. Looks more interesting in my opinion.
I love how the picture used in that news article from January 2024 looks like a GW store from the 90s 😂
😅 I thought that
You giving the leader a "axe" instead of a "power axe" while he has a power axe could make sense narratively, maybe he got scammed and paid for a broken power axe so now he uses it like a regular axe, if you later choose to upgrade his gear you could buy a power axe and narratively he's paid for it to be repaired.
Its little things like that which adds character to a gang
Great shout
I religiously remove mouldlines, in fact I'm sure I've spent more hours on that than painting during my hobby years! It can easily take over an hour per metal miniature, but it's still vetter than the modern stuff with individual mouldlines on every tiny bit! I've now bought around old 250 metal miniatures and around 200 old plastic ones second hand and I've yet to see one miniature where the mouldlines were removed by previous owners! Tgen again these are usually models that they owned as a kid so it makes sense they wouldn't have faffed around with that, I didn't either back in the late 90s and early 00s.
i start with the same models orlock out of the starting box of a frind . and i stay with the hobby.
I`ll Do like your base color, please keep it, nice painting over all.
Maaan, the Legion of the Damned... they should bring them back! Make them a Squad that can any Space Marine chapter. Also, I may or may not have a full box of unpainted 90s Delaque in the house somewhere. If I find it, I'd donate it to your channel!
I agree about legion. And thank you for your kindness 🙏
@@Miniscape-wh40k I looked a bit, and haven't found my delaque yet, but I found a box of some monopose marines, some messed up tyranids, a leman russ and a rhino. Including my very first ever painted mini, the Chaos Knight from the paint set! I could send those your way.
@@Squirrelsquid thank you. Please can you email me? My email is on here somewhere, but you need to use your browser to find it (not the mobile app)
More use to Newmunda admaterly.. but an extra ganger or two wouldn't hurt at creation. You've got to assume at least 1 or 2 guys will be missing games at any point, and tiny gangs can have issues with bottle checks.. well in Newmunda anyway!
