To be fair, it's the Imperium. It should probably all burn to the ground. It's just unfortunate so many innocent civilians (and doggos) get caught in the crossfire.
You have no clue how badly I want someone to hold me at gunpoint in a dark alley and bombard me with challenge questions about Warhammer trivia. I’d feel like that one Russian general from WW1 who spent his entire life planning on how to seize a very specific but particularly beefy part of the Ottoman Empire, and then actually got the chance to do it. “This is awful for everyone else but I feel great.”
Pretty sure a real bolter would sound very underwhelming. They're gyrojets, which real world examples are fairly quiet as far as guns are concerned. They rounds they shoot are massive, but self propelled, so you don't have the noise of a compressed explosion propelling something past the sound barrier. Instead you have the burn of a tiny thruster, maybe a boom if they're supersonic, and then an explosion when they land. Though real gyrojects weapons are also quite inaccurate, as well as some other issues, so it's fair to assume bolters wouldn't be exactly the same. Probably a good place to start for more realistic bolter sound design would be any game with a rapid fire missile launcher. That's essentially what a bolter is anyways.
@@Brandelwyn yeah Bolter rounds are some sort of hybrid of a regular cartridge and a gyrojet that allows them to keep accelerating after leaving the barrel. Gyrojets don't have shell casings that eject afterwards.
But are you in if that's the only attractive element of the game? Everything else seems pretty bland. There was no real mention of the overall story quality, so I can only assume it's pretty basic. For Necromunda to be made interesting it needs some good story and characters, or incredible gameplay, or some combination of those things at least at an above average level.
I hope they actually look at this review and adjust things according to his criticisms in the future. I don't care if it comes in updates or even a DLC expansion, this game just has that much potential
This one definetly came out with more polish then Space Hulk Deathwing. Fixing the execution animations should be pree easy. Also idk what difficulty mando played on but for me unless you strip their reactive shields first you cant execute em.
@@stefani.5737 He said that it was a review copy so maybe they changed it shortly before release. Something like this should be quite easy to change too.

As someone with a creative writing degree..... it's not that it is expensive, more that everyone thinks they can do it. The number of times I've had STEM students tell me they can write then proven Dunning-Kruger works both ways is beyond my poor Art student's ability to count.
Tbh well written dialogue shouldnt be so difficult, compared to a good story. Its like good music, these days you dont need a great budget to do it right, just a talented guy. Or at least thats how it should be. The dunning Kruger thing sounds pretty correct. Also now I gotta think about how bad a lot of Hollywood movies are, and they certainly got the money...
@@Badartist888 it's also something that everyone thinks is a on/off; you either write good dialogue, or you don't. They don't realize that it's a process that takes a lot of time and involves doing a lot of work, occasionally spending hours tweaking individual lines I also have a degree in creative writing and the amount of times I've seen people say it's "easy" or "cheap" makes me wanna eat my pen sometimes
“I’m aware there’s something wrong with my fridge too but that doesn’t mean I’ll go fix it” it is so gratifying to hear something like that, too often people take promises about games at face value.
I'm biased toward Necromunda in general, but "summon terrifying cyber-mastiff with squeaky toy" would probably sell me on it even if I weren't a fan of the TT game.
I like that the takedowns are a bit different from DOOM, but to manage it's strength they should give it some sort of resource cost, blend it in with the chainsaw's function from DOOM 2016 a bit. Some sort of stamina-esque meter that depletes and refills when either out of combat or when you shoot an enemy maybe, to encourage you to stay in the fight and glory kill important targets.
My problem with the takedowns is that the animations are too damn long. That might be a deliberate countermeasure to keep people from wanting to just spam them, but if your countermeasure is making them feel bad to do that suggests they should've just outright ripped off Doom to start with.
@@delivererofdarknessshoguno1133 that’s something that DOOM ETERNAL did amazingly. The most basic imp takedown is a quick 3 hit combo, but each hit has a solid sound behind it to still make it powerful, while one of the cyderdeamon takedowns has you spend five seconds stabbing your way up his chest to tear off his horns and part of his head, but you don’t care that the entire animation takes 7 whole seconds in a fast paused combat game, because you’re tearing a cyberdeamons head in half.
I hadn't been following Streum On since E.Y.E. so when you mentioned they did this game and Space Hulk it all made sense. E.Y.E. felt like a more insane, back-alley discount version of WH40K setting so I'm glad they actually got some licensed WH40K games made.
Mandalore videos are genuinely some of the highest quality reviews on TH-cam. Great goofs, amazing editing and genuinely good insight into whether a game is "good" or "bad". Definitely deserves so much more credit and I'm surprised he channel hasn't hit 1million yet. Keep up the awesome work Mandalore.
This studio is so into Warhammer lore that even their games look like they were made with imperial technology. They have this very strong feeling of "it works, but the guy that made it doesn't really know how it works".
The releasing the genestealer part had me laughing. "Actually that last one is not a good idea." Glad to see you had so much fun with the game, its certainly helped me gauge what kind of 40k game this is.
Glad to hear it's a blast to play. It's weird hearing the arsenal is so limited when E.Y.E. had an obscene amount of gear (and multiplayer too) shoved into it, but it looks like they've grown as a studio regardless. Here's hoping post-launch support fills in the gaps.
Average non-40k-videogame Fan: "This game is terrible. 30 dollars?" 40k Gamer Fan: "Oh sweet child... 30 dollars is nothing... I'm just happy we're still getting games."
I certainly hope so. However, if we're not going to "Spayse!" It means we're going to some other game w/some Tim Curry, and that would be a welcome surprise :)
its hilarious how horrible that skull stab is, its like he's dropping the knife into some warm butter. nothing satisfying or impactful which is sadly the best way to describe all of this games melee
The animations are the worst part of this game for sure. I have no idea how they made such amazing environments and weapon models but thought these animations were acceptable. The actual gameplay is amazing... but it's going to get shit on because there is some big jank.
@@habibihabibi7115 its weird because these juxtapositions making the game look worse then it should. all these nice environments also being filled with last gen looking enemies who animate so stiff especially all the larger enemies. It doesn't help that 40k is well known for its brutal melee fights but in this game its so flimsy and soft. Darktide already has better looking melee with hammers, big heavy knifes and powerswords
All of the animations look like complete shit, I don't know how they managed to have environments that looks this great, but they can't afford to get someone who knows more about animating than having read trough a single wikihow tutorial
@@joedatius Fatshark does have the benefit of years of making Vermintide look good in that regard. This companies' previous games were a bit more on the whiffle bat side of things if we're being honest.
@@Scharrez Its not only bad as compared with how how nice the environments look but also on a basic fundamental level, no concept of solid motion and visual feedback. Even in terms of a FPS it feels off, when the doomslayer rips the head off of some demon it has a quick and visually easy to see line of movement that snaps perfectly with the perspective of the camera but in this game the hands almost feel detached from the actual player and you get this weird feeling of uninvolvement
bolters have always been weird for me, I mean.. lore-wise they're basically a gun that fires rocket-powered grenades, so they should be blowing everything up.
It's just an armor piercing, delayed fuse explosive charge. They use future-sounding words to describe it. Mass-reactive is just another term for explosives, kind of like how prometheum is anything flammable and radios are called vox casters. One would expect a gyro-jet shell to be caseless, but they're not. So, to me, this suggests a hybrid cased kicker with an internal gyro jet. I suppose it would allow them to make the guns smooth bore and retain rifle-like accuracy. We have similar ordinance in the real world in terms of function even if not form. Essentially, it's a 20mm cannon that looks like an assault rifle.
@@billrich9722 20mm caliber rounds are similarly sized and adjacently similar in concept, but the output disparity makes them incomparable. Bolters really are submachine guns with an 1800+ rpm and rifle accuracy that fire rocket-propelled armor piercing rounds with the explosive payload similar to that of a grenade, and the ones built for Astartes hold even more rounds and have an even higher rpm.
@@KaleidosXXI You fucking what? No, that's not submachinegun rates of fire. That's gatling gun rates of fire. I'm tempted to dismiss you outright but I'm not sure if you're taking the piss or not.
A 20mm is a 20mm. Filling some of the round with rocket propellant only decreases the space left for a bursring charge. Bolters dont have 1800rpm firerate, maybe 180, but both are unimpressive. For example the zsu23-4 fires over 4000rpm. The vulcan can do up to 6k. What the bolter is, os a shitty man portable autocannon. A real world equivalent would be the Lahti, or the Solothurn S18 at rifles. Except it has less expllsive charge, worse accuracy, longer round flight time, and its ammo is guarunateed to go bad in a few years.
filling some of the round with rocket propellant absolutely does not decrease the space left for a bursting charge, you just... make the round larger. You dont need a casing or anything, so the ammunition is gonna take up less room. The velocity and fire rate is going to be worse than an autocannon, yeah... The weight is going to be much, much less though. Doesnt need a long barrel, doesnt need recoil compensation, doesnt need nearly as much reinforcement... Honestly, something like the bolter could easily exist for normal infantry in real life, it would just have to be a bit more like a automatic grenade launcher. @@egoalter1276
Yeah, I was astounded to suddenly see it pop up on the GOG main page. I wondered if Darktide had secretly died and they repurposed all the assets or something, just FPS Necromunda outta nowhere!
What really had me saying "ok these guys KNOW their 40k" was the "Goge is Terra" text on monitors, gives you a real good idea how deep down in the gutter you are and how ancient everything is
I'm more than happy to give these developers my money just based on how well crafted this section of the Warhammer universe appears portrayed. That's a lot of effort to get things fairly accurate, and I feel like they more than did so.
Finally, a fun looking WH game that isn't a damn strategy game. Hopefully a good RPG will come someday. Also glad the soundtrack isn't the typical Dawn of war Gregorian chanting since IMO mechanicus has the best WH ost. The parts mando played sounded fantastic.
Maybe Rogue Trader game. Mass Effect style since Rogue Traders can have Xeno companions. Necron Garrus and Ork Wrex. Maybe add Tech-priestess Tali and you have bestseller. Also Rogue Trader story so it doesn't need to affect Imperium in any way.
So it just occurred to me how weird it is to see dogs in 40k, which led me on a lore hunt, only to find out that dogs are still relatively common as pets in-universe, and even the Iron Snakes, an Ultrasmurfs successor chapter, actually uses war dogs in a scouting role. Now I wanna see war dogs beefed up with Space Marine-style genetic engineering.

I only just realised that when you were talking about the cyber dog, you chose the nintendogs walking music. Walking your robo mastiff through a polluted, overpopulated and crime ridden mega factory would be the 40k equivalent to a walk along the street with a Labrador, come to think of it.
Mando, dude you are by far one of my favorite creators. Your stuff is informative but doesn't ruin the game. You do an amazing job! Thank you for making these.
You can increase the rate of fire on some weapons but not to the degree of fuller auto. Weapons don't have secondary fire modes. The customization system is pretty basic, unfortunately, both for your guns, your dog and character.
You and me both, these devs made _E.Y.E: Divine Cybermancy_ which was, while messy, creative and action-packed. But later they also made _Space Hulk: Deathwing_ and never was so much potential squandered in a WH:40k game, the level design alone gave a glimpse into what could've been.
So from the review it seems to say the bones are looking good but it’s lacking a bit of meat to get super into Still EYE divine cybermancy part 2 looks pretty good
"...like a bar, church and armory combined into one. If you grew up in the American south, this is actually pretty normal...." Good lord Mandalore, sometimes that dry delivery has me rolling!
My biggest problem with the game is how it handles health/lives. Attrition is a pretty big factor in the game, and if you run out of revives the 'reload level' function takes away all of your loot but doesn't give you back any of your use items, making it very easy to get stuck once a hard encounter burns all of your resources and then asks you to try and do it again but *without any healing or grenades*
@@elperronimo It's not so much that they became popular at the same time, but rather both of their channel revolves around the same thing: video games review.

5:47 the percussion gave me House of the Dying Sun vibes, then I realized Olivier Zuccaro did the OST for that game too. Which is funny cos that game has probably some of my favorite sound design ever.
The upside is that the game's problems are purely polish related. Some people don't like the story, but that's a case of it being subjective *and* not really the focus of the game. So if enough patches or even expansions come out that fix/change up some of the systems then it might end up being incredible.

@@Eamil If I were to decide, make animations quick and short for comon enemies and longer for elites.
@@delivererofdarknessshoguno1133 that’s something that DOOM ETERNAL did amazingly. bolters have always been weird for me, I mean.. lore-wise they're basically a gun that fires rocket-powered grenades, so they should be blowing everything up.
