  • While the community was comparing the 2019 animations of Dying Light 2 or whatever to the current ones, I decided to make a Dying Light 1 vs Dying Light 2 comparison video.
    'Cause whether you prefer the old animations of DL2 or not, we've gotta atleast look towards what Techland has changed since the last game.
    So, I present to you this video.

      Two important things to remember, Dying Light 2 shows a Speed vault, while Dying Light 1 shows something more akin to a Kong vault, two fairly different moves with different animations.
      Also, a tic-tac is when you put your foot on a wall, then jump off it to reach something higher, in Dying Light 2, they call the horizontal wallrun a "tic-tac" which is utterly wrong. Odd since David was there consulting. You don't show either of those, however :/

      absolutely. I heard jonah scott, the VA for aiden, said there's a lot of moments where aiden will react to combat/parkour and if the player succeeds and or fails at those tasks. He talked a lot about "quips" and such, super excited to see that when im playing. will make it feel like im playing a character, not a robot.

      @@voltar2917 Something I really hope they bring back is the dialogue between Coop Partners like in Be The Zombie Coop Mode. When fighting the Night Hunter, Kyle Crane would say stuff to the other partners ingame. I always wanted Crane to do that in a normal game outside of the Invasion idea. He would say stuff when Reviving downed Partners, when they died or when they were hit by certain spits like UV and Horde. I kinda hope and wish that Aiden will say other things to the coop partners in the regular coop game because I feel this would bring more liveliness to the game and to the coop Partners so we don’t just feel like duplicates of each other but like other Survivors in the game.

    I don't know why but DL2 looks like Aiden running in low gravity. In terms of how parkour feels, DL1 has more umph in its running animation instead of DL2 which the character feels like lowkey floating it kinda hurts my brain watching it

      If you watch 2019 gameplay and then the most recent gameplay you’ll notice a big improvement considering gravity

      only problem is if they change the gravity it will significantly affect the gameplay since the map was designed with that gravity in mind for planned jumps and routes

    I've never played DL but the first one looks way better in terms of animations. They're faster, smoother and it looks like there is ragdoll involved with the enemies which makes it look more natural and make each kill unique. The stealth takedown was especially bad. It was damn near a cutscene.

      I think the parkour animations are better in dl2, but the combat animations are way better in dl1

      @@macduncan2208 I think the zombie animations look really good. How they limp, and drag along; some with their arms out trying to grab you. I know zombies in DL 1 will lunge at with their arms out, but still…..overall I think the zombie animations are better in dying light 2 even if it’s just by a little bit. Not to mention I really like the design of them too. The nice graphics probably help with that.

      Believe me when i say dying light 2 is a hell of a lot better in a lot of ways, because dying light 2's animations break a hell of a lot, for instance bozak horde DLC, yuo start up with a cutscene, My head is on backwards at the cutscene and im just left stareing down crane's neck hole for the entire thing until its time to actually play

      The stealth takedowns in this video weren't a fair comparison. One was an instant-kill on a zombie, the other was a stralth takedown of a human.
      That being said, Dying Light 1 wins the majority of categories by far.

    Now I know this is unrelated but I think that the colorful world here actually is a choice rather than a downgrade like most people said when comparing dl2 to dl1 the reason why I said it’s a choice it’s because in dl2 the world is being rebuilding, revamping and revive so I think it’s the reason why it doesn’t have that gritty, dusky, harsh vibe that dl1 have because in dl1 the theme is that there is no hope for humanity so despair work better for it.
    TLDR: in conclusion dl2 feel more hopeful because it is rebuilding the society ; dl1 feel despair because it have to save humanity

      I prefer it. It might look a bit hyper realistic to people of the bat, like it's too green and nice, but honestly the drab color pattern of DL1 isn't really my favorite and it's not any more realistic. I think you're right about it being more hopefull for the sequel. DL1 was people stuck in place, waiting to die one way or another. They were hoping for a cure, but there wasn't even rescue attempts being made. It felt like a place cut off from the world, left to wither and die. This is literally the opposite. the one place humanity managed to hang on.

    Is it just me or does hitting the zombies in DL1 feels more impactful with tangible stutters and has that crunchy feedback feeling and the zombies don't stagger easily and even pounce forward on you making it harder to slice them and even the kick has a bit of rumbling and vibration to it as it's impacting on the zombie. And when you fall from a high point, the wind speed sound increases and the camera shakes with blur as you're falling down. While in DL2, I dunno the combat feels more "game-ish" in a way, almost shallow as you're slicing air with minimal feedback and the zombies aren't as aggressive as the first game (it's like they're easy xp givers) and the kick is underwhelming with barely any rumbling feedback and there's no visible effect on screen as you're falling down, you just fall down with no wind or camera effect. And the graphics in DL1 have more "POP" to them, dark, contrasty, intense and atmospheric with that lens flare (aggressive lens flare from the sun as it blinds you and even from fire and electricity too), film grain effect and lite motion blur, you could really feel unease, tense and stressed out because you didn't want to go outside on the streets because there were hundreds of undead waiting around every corner and even crowded on the streets and open areas (like squares, intersections etc...). The graphics in DL2 lose that bit, no more film grain, no more contrasty atmospheric tension-filled look, no more lite motion blur and no more "fear of the zombies" feeling. It now has multiple layers of color (which is appreciated but strangely out of place since this isn't supposed to be a happy colorful world, this is still a zombie plague we're talking about here), you move and interact in a more "static" way if you get what i mean, there's no heavy movement with heavy motion (as a normal human being would have) like in the first game, the image is clean and clear with barely any visible aggressive effects for physicality (like how it flashes black and white when you get hit or fall down or how the weapon slice snap-rebounds off the zombie as the screen shakes).
    To me it seems that Techland made DL1 as the tough, grounded and physical zombie apocalypse game, but made DL2 as the shallow fun zombie Role Playing Game (that is different from what Techland set out to make with the first game)

      I bet dl1 wasn't like that 9 years ago If it wasn't for constant updates, just give dl2 some time for it to be better than dl1! They have a 7-year plan for dl2 and y'all acting like it doesn't exist and the game is dead even though it lacks horror it's still better in terms of parkour, combat (in terms of how many options you have), story depending on your personal preference and world design which is the BEST for parkour

      it is i also like the weapons in the first way better i had a balanced longsword that did 30976 damage with angel sword better than anything i found in dl 2.

    Dl1 definitely felt more fluid and realistic than dl2 and I dare say that dl1 graphics looked more realistic than dl2 graphics

      @@meatbag6306 DL1 is trash also and made me buy another game to wash the bad taste it left on me lol really the combat is awful, in the video it only shows the blade weapon, it should show him using a blunt weapon and hitting a zombie 10+ times (while he doesn't even flinch from the attacks) to kill. DL2 looks better in that regard to the point I'm even considering to buy it, despite hating DL1.

    I like how in the first game 1 handed weapons slice through zombies like butter but in the second the weapon gets caught on the zombie so it lags a bit . I don’t know which one I like more. I’m leaning more towards one because it is more satisfying.

      I think that’s because the weapons used did less damage in dl 2 as nobody got very far into the game

      @@JohnDoe-hf1zw i think so because there was gameplay of a weapon that pretty much dismembered every time it hit, if i find the video ill link it. Might’ve also been because the weapon in the gameplay was a two handed weapon but I’m not sure

      Its not a very good comparison as it seems the dying light footage is using a rather high level weapon whereas the DL2 footage isn't, since at lower levels in DL1 weapons recoil off of enemies when you hit them and only slice through for the killing blow. You'd only one hit zombies like this with a weapon that's probably too powerful for your current level.
      As for DL2 I actually find DL1 more realistic when it comes to swinging a weapon since the extra time and effort it would take to complete a full swing wouldn't really be worth the bit of extra damage, especially when those resources could be better put into another swing, especially for blunt weapons where there isn't anything to gain by finishing a swing after your weapon hits an enemy.

    While dl2 has gotten a upgrade there are some changes that I do not like for example when falling in Dl1 you get a motion blur around your screen while dl2 does not have the blure

    DL2's parkour looks weird and anti-climatic, especially the gravity.
    Edit: I disagree with my previous statement, the parkour isn't bad at all, i very much enjoy it and it does give off a great sense of freedom.

      In one of the dev interviews, they mentioned how DL1 actually simulated twice the Earths gravity, while DL2 will be accurate to life. Maybe it is just an issue with being used to the first game

      @@nol9573 yeah I'm just calling that a blatant lie from them. Looking at recent parkour vids the gravity is so insanely low. If dying light 1 was twice the earth's gravity then 2 is half it.

      It's simulating real life parkour, how it really looks like from the perspective of actually doing it and they also made sacrifices for certain people like those who get motion sickness easy etc.

      @OldTimer1897 TV what is with your pathetic excuses for complaints like colors are too Vivid and vibrant how is that a negative the original game got criticism for being basically the same shade of yellow and brown audio being recycled such as cranes voice being used for Aiden has been addressed by Jonah Scott the voice actor for Aiden but of course you morons can't do an ounce of research to know that these are placeholder sounds but honestly if the zombie voices especially for just normal biters get reused so what it's just like people crying about God of War reusing a entering a boat animation not everything needs to be completely replaced for no good reason it's just a waste of development time I have no idea what you mean by chalky or not enough base and I don't think you do either really as for one-handed weapons not making contact with enemies that's just not true have you seen the gameplay or you blind they clearly react to attacks whether it's the zombies are the humans and weapons look like they're getting hung up on something yeah it's called a flesh they're hitting like what have you not use the baseball bat in Dying Light 1 they don't just magically face through enemy THEY BOUNCE OFF Space mod another nonsensical term for someone that has no idea what they're really trying to say if you're referring to being able to jump far there's literally a skill called the long jump once again not like you know anything about the game the game just looks weightless know it looks different than Dying Light one in that bothers you that's all it is if you actually knew anything about the development of Dying Light one you would know the exact same thing happened with that game it went from an unobtainable super realistic parkour system to an arcade like parkour system to an in-between that was the full release and as it would turn out the exact same thing has happened with this game So no to put it simply it is clearly not weightless and yes obviously they want feedback and them listening to that feedback is nice but frankly it's just a lot of whining about things that you guys clearly don't even know how to accurately explain to the point of saying terminology that the developers don't even understand

      Yeah dying light 1 feels more impactful but dying light 2 I think will be smoother and not impactful in attacks at al

      Dying light 1 has substantionally better combat.
      Every bone can be visibly and audibly broken , chunks removed, selective limb ragdolls and limb removal.
      Dl2 has dumb set animations, you hit someone in the face with a hammer and its the same animation as shooting them in the leg with a bow
      Things that are gone in dl2 combat: bone breaking and bone break section ragdolls, main weapon throwing, elemental throwing weapons, elemental grenades/traps, charging of spin heavy in air, 1 hander drop down kill move, leg breaker, instant escape, and even being able to run into them and bump them around/over. Pretty much everything that made dl1 combat so interesting and deep is gone right down to at night there isnt even roaming volatiles anymore they just spawn like a gta wanted level chase so the combat isnt only worse in application, its worse in setting aswel.

I really miss being able to dropkick everytime I want and not only if there are enemies, can't spam kicking no more. At night time they should definitely be volatiles roaming outside also the banshee zombie in DL2 is a good addition but they need to make zombies feel like they are made of flesh and bones like in DL1 and not cartoony and glowing

    The 2h weapon charge and drop attack with two handed weapons feels a lot more impactful on dying light 1.also the carbombs.-but in dl1 there is no real explosion, just a impact wace.

    Dying light 2 looks way more alive with more of an environment and noticeably more colorful than DY1, I like it. Both are good games though regardless

    The sequence you showed about the bow in the firsr game isnt correct cuz the bow shooting mecanic if the firsr game was atrocious you could see a line behind the arrow and the arrow wasn't stray forward. In the sequel the shooting mechanic of the bow are day and night and much more improved.

    Sadly, DL2 has bad things like:
    1) Low gravity(maybe for long jumping, but still weird for me)
    2) No Gore(I want MORE BLOOD, like in DL1, where you can cut off limbs and more executions) Also, after zombie was being hit by Aiden, I can't see the blood on zombie shirt, non realistic.
    3) Weird cartoonish animations, where Aiden like a Spider-man, what literally can stick to a wall without any problems.
    But there's the good side of DL2:
    1) New parkour moves(plus some moves will be unlocked right after start like Sliding and others what was in DL1 locked)
    2) Bigger map(plus you can make it even larger by choosing sides of society and helping people)
    3) More combat moves(also parkour will become a real combat thing, where in DL1 you can only dropkick and slidekick)
    New weapons(I hope what much more variety of them than in DL1)
    4) New types of zombies and enemys with their own combat abilities and weapons.
    5) Large history, where you can choose how you will improve you sity.
    I hate bad things of DL2 so much, but still hope what this will be a masterpiece with optimized matchmaking on 4 people(cos what I will do if I'll get all chooses?)

      @@gtmo55mack20 I mean, in real parkour, when you use a tik-tac move or something like that, you have to run up and grab the wall like you're crawling up, so you get a lot higher than you would with a normal jump. But here Aiden can do Tik-Tac even in the air (that is, jump onto the wall from the balcony, for example) and he can easily do this movement, like a spider-man, he will stick to the wall and crawl up, which is not entirely realistic for me

And I'm still hoping what DL2 did his best to make us at least a part of this atmosphere from DL1

    what a fucking joke, dl1 released 7 years before dl2 and its still better. i dont give a shit what anybody says, dl1 objectively has better fighting, it feels more realistic, when you slice the zombies it really feels like the blade is going through them, the blood and all that shit looks way better, gravity is just how it should be unlike in dl2, which is some floaty fake bullshit, it just doesnt feel right, it really kills all the interest. and for graphics, dl2 seems way too cartoonish compared to dl1, these zombies look like they are from telltale walking dead game if u know what im talking about

    There are some moves/things missing. However its possible to see, that DL1 has a better mechanic exept of explosion effects.
    Oh and damn. In DL1 hardcore you need instant kill techniques. But it would be nice to have the choice of non lethal otherwise.

    I like Ground Slam from DL1 more, than from DL2, cos in 2 part it looks like just easy ground touch, in 1 part you can feel this power of Ground Slam.
    Also this gravity from DL2 is incredibly stupid, besides with DL1, where it's more realistic. But other animations I like too(btw, why do Crane and Aiden healing yourself just by bandage, why no other animations;-) ?)

    DL1 has simpler animations and snappier camera movements, which works well with fast-paced parkour and combat gameplay. Also, notice the viewmodel hands positions are fixed instead of wobbling around all the time.

      In DL 1 they would of been thrown into walls, spikes, blown to pieces and die…

    You should put a disclaimer here stating that the footage we're seeing is comparing a game that has been out for a long time, with lots of time to patch and update, and a game that wasn't even gold at the time the footage was captured.
    Dying Light 2 looks pretty different since 2019, mate. A lot of these animations are now not very accurate since the first major patch too.

    each game is entirely better then the other in certain spots but the main issue with dl2's parkour over the other game. everything looks to automated and artificial & the parkour just looks to soft if that makes sense say you hit the ground or tic tac toe. it's just to soft.

    I feel like in DL1 the animations feel more weighted and the gravity more believable. In DL2 ist feels more arcadey/gamey which generally is fine in most games but it sucks to see when they already had the Animations nailed in the first game.

    I might be the only one here, but I love the changes and improvements to the parkour in DL2 from the first.
    Everything just chains together so smoothly; going from a tight-rope walk, jumping off a balcony, rolling along the floor, to climb a bus, jump onto a lamppost then swing across a rope to the rooftop.
    Dying Light 1? I felt like I spent more time looking for ways to actually climb the shit rather than climbing the shit.
    In DL2; everything - as far as I know - can be interacted with in some manner for the parkour.

    DL1 Had depth in turn of the melee fight far more than DL2 also I see in the video you missing about some masterpiece's unique skill DL1 call "stun kill" that does Execution
    • Crane grabs the victim and smashes their head on his knee.
    • Crane pulls their left arm to his left hip, then uses his right hand to
    snap their neck from the chin.
    • Crane grabs their chin and scalp, then breaks their neck.
    • Crane forces their head down, then elbow drops it.

      I get the gravity thing but
      how is combat not an improvement over the first game?
      You have all the moves from the first game with a few more new ones like a grappling hook use for combat in dl2 as well as blocking with swords instead of shields (which probably no one used in dl1).
      Not to mention stealth is even added to the new game, in the older one it was impossible to do so against human enemies and normal zombies because you'd get caught anyways. It's only use was against volatiles.

    I'm deciding weather to buy DL1 or DL2. From what I can hear from the community, DL1 sounds much better. Story, Characters, Zombies, Physics, etc, and DL2 is just a buggy and boring mess. I think I'm going to buy DL1 while It's on sale. But, IMO, the parkour animations in DL2 looks better. Especially the climbing, rolling, dropkick and takedown. But, thats about it. DL1's parkour reminds me of Mirror's Edge. While DL2's parkour reminds me of Mirror's Edge Catalyst, and I like Mirror's Edge Catalyst's parkour more. It's probably just me. When I play DL1, I probably get used to it. Any info I need to hear, before I buy one of the games? DL1 Is on sale until Janurary 5th.
    EDIT: I decided to buy DL1 (with mods) :)

      Good choice with dl1. Dl2 feels like it has low gravity on. It doesnt hit the same as dl1. I've complreted dl1 and I have to say it was one of the best zombie games i've ever played

    Overall, Dying Light 1 is better
    DL1 had better music, night runs and chases, immersiveness, zombies interacting to your strikes, atmosphere, skill trees, and even a better story imo,
    DL2 had better parkour, combat (2 handed weapons feel way better here), and graphics
    Aiden is a great character same for Lawan and Hakon
    However Crane is still greater with an even better purpose in the game
    Dying Light 1 is personally my favorite game and will probably always be

      What lighting effects do you mean exactly as for the music that's a complete unjustified speculation especially considering from what we've heard of the soundtrack it sounds pretty great

      Not much of a surprise to be honest if it does. Dying light 1 was more of a downfall for humanity, dying light 2 seems to focus much more on the rise of humanity. The setting is quite different and i believe the 2nd game will deliver more horror during night time while keeping daytime way less gloomy compared to the first game. I guess it's a preference of what setting you prefer. I played the heck out of DL1, for me the setting was exactly what i wanted and the ambient soundtrack fit very well. I will most likely enjoy dying light 2 regardless.

      I can see what you mean, but just want to point that two steps forward and one back is still an advancement and I think this game overall will be one. Not too thrilled about some things like the gravity and the reduction in punchiness/weightiness in the sound design, but overall the game looks like it will be amazing.

      It has Gore there are gameplay clips that show off dismemberment decapitations and it's pretty brutal

      @@msbkaioken136 Not enough! The first DL had chunks being torn out of bodies and bones protruding out the corpse! DL2 seems a step back in that department.I hope I’m wrong.

    Ok this is my teory we see Aiden move Slower than Crane Since Aiden is a survivor trained in Combat and parkour but doesnt compare with Kyle Crane He is an international runner and a Agent Trained by the SAI

    Why did the game take so long to make when it was already pretty much made? Like they are VERY similar games. There's a 7 year gap between these games. Dying Light 1 had to be made from scratch so...they started working on that way before the year 2008? lol..

    The only things better on dl2 are the high jump and long jump off obstacles skill you get in agility tree, they feel good to use and are probably the only parkour in dl2 that actually have a bit of a weighty feeling to them especially the long jump off low obstacles animation, but the world isnt built to use either so its such a waste.
    id love to take just those 2 abilities the way they are animated back into dl1 please

    I think this game will be awesome. Only thing I don't like about it so far is that their original composer is not returning. The soundtrack was one of my favorite parts in DL1.

      nah don’t worry
      dl2’s theme is very reminiscent of dl1’s with the synths and all that
      there’s dynamic music in the game where as you gain more momentum and more parkour flow during a free-run
      the music will become more intense and extra layers of instruments will come in.
      i think the composer knocked it out of the park with the main theme of dl2 as well but thats up to personal preference
