Yes, I just did the upgrade two weeks ago, awesome upgrade. I love the ability to assign switches for special functions and any mix that can be dreamed up.
It's a scratch built 50 BMG sniper rifle I made about 2 years ago. I like target shooting and long range shooting is quite a challenge. I've shot a 12" group at 1250 yards using military surplus rounds and I'm very happy with the performance.
I'm still happy with it, and many of my friends are too. There's been some negative comments about the radio, we had one out of seven that had a problem. The biggest problem I see with the radio is the battery pack, it's got to be positioned correctly or it becomes intermittent, I talk about this in my video. The main reason I like this is for the $9 usd receivers, and it's very programmable. Good luck.
I ordered one yesterday I can't wait. I'm still using a 72mhz Optic6, so this is quite an upgrade for me. I was pretty skeptical about their range until I've seen videos on youtube with dudes getting 1.6 kilometer range out of them. I think I spent $90 with shipping, I'm excited to get it!
I just bought one for $39.75 @ Hobby King, I was wondering and had some questions but I like this video, The major question was about range and why so damn cheap! I feel better about it now.
@mmmartin261 In the video I explain that the module should NOT be removed because of the wire? Our group now has nine of these radios, one had a problem which we fixed, all others are going strong. You are right about customer service, if you buy something from HK your pretty much on your own.
@Thatonepersonz Yes, here's what's wrong, the "bind" and "bat" labels are reversed. Plug the bind plug in what's labeled "bat" and the battery in what's labeled "bind", the light should be blinking inside the RX, then hold down the button on the back of the TX while turning the power switch on, while still holding the button you should see the RX light go solid, you can let go, shut the TX and RX off, remove the bind plug, then fire it all up again.
Nice, I've got a couple of these as well. My first one was a V1 without TXmodule and Rx. I use a FrSky Module with it and it's awesome. I've got a new V2 9X and it's my spare radio. I'm planning on modding it with a switch so I can turn that darn spekaer off for when I'm programming. I hate it just beeping away for every button press. All in all, a really good radio though.
Very interesting review. For that little money it actually looks like a pretty good deal to me, even when taking the somewhat 'hit-or-miss' quality control stuff into consideration here.
@NoobyRC A lipo battery would last the longest and be light, the only sucky thing is having to snap the back open to charge it through a balance plug, that's why I'm leaning toward a NIMH pack that's soldered together. Turnigy really messed up by not including a quick start guide at the very least. I'm not sure I could have figured out the binding issue if I hadn't read a post on the problem. I hope the battery pack solves your problem and you get some use out of your $59 radio.
@Ixtocaltro Thanks. Acro is for powered airplanes and Glid for gliders. I use Glid for my Radian motor glider and use the channel labeled "air brakes" for throttle.
@dhyn22 I've installed the 8 channel RX in a Lite-flight Bug that's 7 ounces all up, so yes it will work. I stripped the case off the RX to make it lighter. You can get a 6 channel RX that's smaller, which I have several of. They are the HK brand 6 channel V2, the SKU is: SKU: HK-T6A-V2...$8.99!!US No problems binding with the Turnigy 9X.
@geekpeptalk I've been using this radio in an Extra 300 foamy, Lightflite Bug, ParkZone P51D, ParkZone Radian glider and a GWS slow stick without any problems. No glitches or crashes, it just works. A buddy of mine bought one and his works great. That said, some people have had problems and crashes. I'm not sure if I'd use it in anything really expensive or dangerous. Your mileage may vary.
@lewandlo Yes, there is a trick! The mode 1 TX comes in stock more often and stays in stock longer. The mode 1 has the throttle on the right side, if you search TH-cam you will find a video on converting a mode 1 TX to a mode 2. We've done this to the last 3 TX's and it's not a big deal, it takes 5 minutes!
@PatBALEX The mode 1 (throttle on right) comes into stock and stays stocked longer, order it and convert it to a mode 2. It's easy to do and takes 10 minutes. There's a video on TH-cam that shows how. We got 3 of our radios this way. Good luck.
I've been inside my Spektrum DX6i and found the build quality to be about the same. Another huge plus is that the receivers are only $8.99 each. I've ordered another for radio just to have a spare.
I'm building a hovercraft with 2 fans and 1 servo. I use an HK60F remote I'm wondering if I'll need a second receiver so each fan has one recover on it.
@NoobyRC Wow, I'm glad you were able to find this out. I'm going to check mine out before disaster strikes. Maybe using a built up pack like the one found in Futaba radios would be a good way to go?
@VANASUTRA Are all the channel effected? We had one radio out of seven that had a problem with the throttle, it turned out to be a bad pot on the gimbal. You should open it up and make sure that all of the plugs are seated, I've found one not quite seated and that can cause problems.
@TheRcteen I bought it for $55 + $25 for shipping from HobbyKing. The big problem is that they are ALWAYS on backorder. A couple of friends said it took 2 months to get theirs.
@geekpeptalk Yes, I'll do a flight test video soon. I'm going to strap my GoPro HD camera on the bottom of my Slow Stick and I'll cover some of the details about the radio.
@codavex I doesn't come with a manual, but if you do a search for "imax9x manual" you'll find one online. The Imax 9x is just another variant and this manual is better than nothing.
@davonizdashit There's a program mixing menu which allows you to mix one channel with another. So you could select the throttle channel and mix it with an auxiliary channel.
Hi again! i have 1 more question. i'm planning to order a TX lipo together with the turnigy 9x. The Turnigy T1450-TX-3 is the cheapest i could see in hobbyking, do you think it will fit in turnigy 9x transmitter? Thanks
@thomaslombardi ,Thanks, think i'll get one HK-T6A-V2 also. I wonder if the flysky R6B will also bind w/ this Transmitter, coz it's $9.00 and i could get it local, shipping would be faster & i guess cheaper. Thanks a lot.
I am thinking gettign this radio but I am not sure. all I would be flying would be the parkzone trojan and 450 size helis. What do you think. Is it as fast as the spektrum DSM2 technology. Is it really worth it?
So how solid is this radio when it comes to range and glitches? I'm just thinking what if I use this on a cheap 30 size nitro helicopter? If it works and have long range then should work with nitro. But is it realible? Hmmm. I need to do more research. Do you think it's realible?
@fyvelnews The price is pretty normal for HongKong direct stuff - those things aren't rocket science, nothing much expensive in there per se. You pay little for advertisement, very little for shelf space and distribution network, and zero for warranty and customer support. Same device would cost twice to trice as much if it were to be offered in brick-and-mortar stores.
@nblebaron Yes, I would. What I meant to say is that if I put it in a heavy or fast plane and then lost it into a crowd I'd feel really stupid. I'd reserve anything potentially dangerous for a brand name radio.
@thomaslombardi Thanks!, I managed to figure out why. The Transmitter was in PCM mode. I was thinking PPM usually for Cable-to-Comp....I cant believe i was so stupid and working on solving it for like 4 hours. Such a embarrassment.
@1Filmproducer I bought it from Hobby King dot com. The airplane is a Park Zone P51D from Horizon Hobby dot com. It's been a good radio, your mileage may vary!
@HeadShot360IN I really liked my DX6i, it's a great radio, but the Turnigy recievers are much cheaper, you can get one for $9us. It's much cheaper to get a new model flying.
I received one today ... however, the left gimbal doesn't stay at the position up or down but return to the center position ... the right gimbal is opposite ... I believe this is a problem of the product ... btw, how many receiver are included in one box?
You have a mode 1 type radio, throttle on the right and elevator and aileron on the left. You can swap to a mode 2 by moving the spring, arm and throttle friction plate. There is a video on TH-cam that shows how this is done, it's not a hard job to do.
Tom Lombardi oh wow ... I found the video ... YOU ARE THE MANNN ... lol lol ... now I don't need to return or exchange the product ... sorry but I'm really new to this RC world ... :))
That beep is pretty annoying! I've had people at my flying field comment. I see that there's some programmers making alternate firmware for these radios, it's not clear if it works for V2. So far my biggest gripe is that there's no count up timer; I use this for timing glider flights.
My suggestion is: replace the module with a frsky its much better, Also update the software with er9x. It becomes a much better radio, the standard software is very crap with the most annoying biep you ever heard! With the software its like a $400 radio ;)
@thomaslombardi Thanks for the advice...Got my 9x in Tuesday and just changed it from mode 1 to mode 2....So easy...So easy.....Going to put this in my Fly-Fly F-86 Saber....Thanks!!!

Yes yes, we know you guys are the only poeple in the whole world that are free!!!! Yeh RIght.

@DhrTressie I could not tell which way my 2m motor glider was going. Our ground test was out 3000ft when we gave up.
@TheRcteen I bought it for $55 + $25 for shipping from HobbyKing. The big problem is that they are ALWAYS on backorder. A couple of friends said it took 2 months to get theirs.
Excelent video. I have a question, what is the difference between "acro" and "glid" mode? Thanks for your comments.
@geekpeptalk Yes, I'll do a flight test video soon. I'm going to strap my GoPro HD camera on the bottom of my Slow Stick and I'll cover some of the details about the radio.
@VANASUTRA Glad to hear you figured it out. Good information for others, thanks.
Great review. Thanks Thomas.
Very noob question but why do Tx/Rx systems have one less channel on the receiver than the transmitter?
Cheers.
@codavex I doesn't come with a manual, but if you do a search for "imax9x manual" you'll find one online. The Imax 9x is just another variant and this manual is better than nothing.
Nice head-cam! Good review.
Cual es la distancia a la que transmite?
What is the maximum REACHING DISTANCE RADIO SIGNAL?
@davonizdashit There's a program mixing menu which allows you to mix one channel with another. So you could select the throttle channel and mix it with an auxiliary channel.
Dude is that a real sniper? Awesome!
Hi again! i have 1 more question. i'm planning to order a TX lipo together with the turnigy 9x. The Turnigy T1450-TX-3 is the cheapest i could see in hobbyking, do you think it will fit in turnigy 9x transmitter? Thanks
Just got a new Turnigy 9X and having issues. Is the red light supposed to be on the receiver even after binding?
@thomaslombardi ,Thanks, think i'll get one HK-T6A-V2 also. I wonder if the flysky R6B will also bind w/ this Transmitter, coz it's $9.00 and i could get it local, shipping would be faster & i guess cheaper. Thanks a lot.
I got one of these Tx,Rx, When i binded and pluged the battery in the servos just went crazy.....any ideas what the problem could be?
@NoobyRC Can you tell me more about the battery plug failure? I'd like to know before I bury an airplane! Thanks.
@8scottyt Thanks. I'm using a GoPro HD camera on the brim of a cap.
I am thinking gettign this radio but I am not sure. all I would be flying would be the parkzone trojan and 450 size helis. What do you think. Is it as fast as the spektrum DSM2 technology. Is it really worth it?

I am considering getting this! radio... I have seen it for $79.00 at HobbyPartz, Have you had any issues to date? Thank you.
@thomaslombardi how long do the batteries last in the transmitter?
would you hesitate to use this system in a 40+ size Glow model?
what kind of rifle is in the background at 7:50? its awesome looking
@thomaslombardi Hey in the future do you think you could make a flight video with this radio being used? Thanks
would you use this setup in a 40+ size glow model?
@fyvelnews The price is pretty normal for HongKong direct stuff - those things aren't rocket science, nothing much expensive in there per se. You pay little for advertisement, very little for shelf space and distribution network, and zero for warranty and customer support. Same device would cost twice to trice as much if it were to be offered in brick-and-mortar stores.
Yes, it's a plans built 50 BMG. There's a video of me shooting it on my channel.
Can you help me with binding? mine WILL NOT work no matter what I try....
and does this come with the radio system? Or do i have 2 get it seprate?
@nblebaron Yes, I would. What I meant to say is that if I put it in a heavy or fast plane and then lost it into a crowd I'd feel really stupid. I'd reserve anything potentially dangerous for a brand name radio.
First rule in responsable pocket knife ownership. "Never cut a in the direction of your body".
@creviseboyI scratch built the rifle and use it for long range target shooting.
Are you still happy with this transmitter/ How does it compare to your DX6i?Thanks
What for swashplate types have the Th9x ?
@thomaslombardi Thanks!, I managed to figure out why. The Transmitter was in PCM mode. I was thinking PPM usually for Cable-to-Comp....I cant believe i was so stupid and working on solving it for like 4 hours. Such a embarrassment.
where did you buy that for such a price? ive looked all over and all i could find $50.00 and up
hi! i'm new in this. i'm planning to get 1 w/ 3d-hawk epo at HK. do think the reciever is to big for the plane? here's the link
thanks
7:45 is there a sniper rifle in the back?
@1Filmproducer I bought it from Hobby King dot com. The airplane is a Park Zone P51D from Horizon Hobby dot com. It's been a good radio, your mileage may vary!
The battery holder gave me some trouble so I replaced it with a 2500ma 3S LIPO pack.
so how do you set up twin motors?
All of a sudden my R/C interest is taking a back seat to my curiousity about the rifle behind you there. Details? :)
@HeadShot360IN I really liked my DX6i, it's a great radio, but the Turnigy recievers are much cheaper, you can get one for $9us. It's much cheaper to get a new model flying.

@HeadShot360INI think it's good quality. Several of my friends have these radios and we are all satisfied.
@EXTREMERFLUGSTOFF It's our flying club, Central Arizona Modelers.
Who did you buy this from? please please your video has inspired me to buy it! LOL
Where did you buy the plane also.
how far i can fly with this radio mile 2 mile less? thank you
My suggestion is: replace the module with a frsky its much better, Also update the software with er9x. It becomes a much better radio, the standard software is very crap with the most annoying biep you ever heard! With the software its like a $400 radio ;)
lucky for u!!!! your power up. i bought one that doesnt power up n now i stuck w this picese of shut
where did you get it and for how much?
Trying to get this radio...Looks like a good deal but always out of stock at HK....
Where did you buy it from?
Is that a .50 caliber rifle?
@thomaslombardi Thanks for the advice...Got my 9x in Tuesday and just changed it from mode 1 to mode 2....So easy...So easy.....Going to put this in my Fly-Fly F-86 Saber....Thanks!!!
@bmx391xmb At 1:49 I say "and see if this thing even fires up" I would never intentionally allow profanity in my videos.
@archaeoprof It has eight model memory.
@dhyn22 Yes, I buy that one from hobbypartz and it's the same as the HK.
is that mode 1 or 2
Yes, we love freedom.
wats cam ?
@giorgosarab That's a 50 bmg sniper rifle I built.
Who did you buy this from? please please your video has inspired me to buy it! LOL
@pietzeekoe Delica 4 with ZDP 189, good eye! Great knives.
@jcer93705 There are five in my group using this radio and so far it's been very reliable.
can you put it in a rc car
I'm stunned you compare this to a 6i.
nice video
@HeliFreak250 8 models.
Thanks for the info./reply!
Nice spyderco
you just had to showcase your sniper weapon in the back ground there, didn't ya? lol.
@davonizdashit It comes with one receiver in the box.
@thomaslombardi Ok thanks that would be great!
hi man what is tha t huge gun behind you????
xaxa lol!!
Thanks!
HK is now selling it for $54.99 US
