  • Want to know how I set up my camera? Take a deep dive into my Sony a6600 Camera Settings. I recently caved and bought the a6600 after a rather frustrating day of excess battery changing and lacking IBIS with my a6400. And when you first get a new camera, you need to go through every menu and update the settings... this video shows all the settings I chose in that grueling process.

      @dunnadidit  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Andrew, when I’m shooting video, I’ll be on the movie mode (the little film looking thing) and when I shoot photos, I’ll be on M (manual). In this video I believe I was in movie the whole time so that I could record the screen, but I do switch between the two. Also, when I’m movie mode I make sure I’m on movie manual mode. But depending on whether you’re in movie mode or on M, that might change a few of your options (like you said, they’re greyed out)

    Intro was like re-living my events yesterday when my 6600 finally arrived. I have the a7iii and kept wishing I could magically transfer my menu settings to the 6600. Your quote of "ugghh I hate setting up the menu system" was me, sitting on the couch, holding my new camera trying to figure out how to avoid setting up my preferences in the menu. My choice was to watch other people on youtube do it instead!

    This was so helpful! Just got mine but on 4k it only gives me up to 25p 60/100m on settings… any ideas why there’s nothing higher on p?? I thought I had the right memory card…

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sounds like you’re on the European settings so you’re only seeing 25p in 4k. If you switch the ntsc/pal setting you can get 24 and 30p in 4k. Then if you want the higher frame rate stuff, you have to switch the camera into full HD mode instead of 4k and you’ll get 50p/100p or 60p/120p

    question for the rode ntg : can you monitor the audio using a 3.5mm jack to usb-c cable?

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately I don’t have a cable like that kicking around to test, but you can just plug headphones into the 3.5mm output and monitor that way, and you can use the usb-c to plug into the computer and record... so it seems possible.

  • @theaterclown616
    @theaterclown616 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    One more question. I have a6600. I’m considering returning and upgrading to the A7III. What are your thoughts on this? I have 2 lenses for the 6600 (sigma 30mm f1.4, and the Sony 18-105mm f4). If I went the A73 route, I’d probably only be able to afford one lens. And I don’t know what that lens would even be. I’m hybrid and trying to do portraits and video. Help!

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      That’s a tough question and it really depends on what you need it for. If you film yourself a lot, the 6600 is probably better. The a7iii technically has better image quality but you’ll only notice in certain situations (low light, high dynamic range). The a6600 actually has a handful of advantages over the a7iii and a lot of the great things that the a7iii has as well.

    Hey Dunna,
    How much better of a 1080p/4K video quality can i get on A7iii vs a6600? Ive been researching, low light is still noticeably good on A7iii APSC mode compared to a6600. Many travel/cinematic videos of a6600 on youtube also show very washed out blacks and colours that fall apart.
    Also, Sharpness on a6600 in videos on youtube looks kinda too digital compared to videos of A7iii. Not sure if its the grading or youtube compression. Need your opinion. Cant afford to buy a full set of FF camera lenses all at once hence APSC mode.

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Honestly, there is a difference but I cut them together without an issue most of the time. In decent lighting conditions you probably won’t be able to notice the difference. In less favorable conditions, the a7iii does better

    I enjoy having an ISO 50 capability because I often like using a very fast wide aperture (f/1.4 or so) lens wide open for outdoor portraits. The 1/4000 second shutter speed is often not fast enough to use the lens wide open 1/8000 is sometimes better (but, unavailable with the A6xxx series cameras). The A6600 ISO 50 capability will help in those shooting conditions. 1/4000 second at ISO 50 is equal to 1/8000 second at ISO 100...
    I have face Detection plus Animal Eye-AF and Human Eye AF on my Function menu and on MY Menu since I do a LOT of dog portraits...
    I have "Function of Touch Operation" displayed on my Fn menu as well as on My Menu since I often am changing this...
    I have the lens Focus Hold button programmed for AF On (with lenses that include that button - 85mm f/1.8 and others)). This is like using back button focus but suits my muscle memory better.

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you can afford the a6600, go for it. It’s fixed a lot of the issues with the a6400. And if you use the b&h link I left in the description, it’s on sale right now so it’s not as expensive as it usually is.

    Question regarding the AWB toggle: when you toggle off, what happens to your white balance? Does it stay at the last known white balance?

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok, a bit of clarification... its not AWB toggle, its AWB "LOCK" toggle. So you are locking the AWB to one WB.
      IE. you are shooting in AWB mode, your camera is constantly changing the white balance to match what it thinks is right. You click AWB lock toggle and it locks it to whatever setting it has at the time. Then when you click that off again, it goes back into AWB, shifting all over the place depending on the light in the room and the colors around.
      Does that make sense?

    • @stefanterbekke8506
      @stefanterbekke8506 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Kenneth Putra Salim own a A6600 myself, coming from A6000. Videos will not be smooth with IBIS, as IBIS is mainly to be used for pics. Really happy with combining A6600 and Sigma 16 and 56mm during low-light. For videos, please use a gimbal.

    • @dunnadidit
      @dunnadidit  4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I think there is a common misconception about what any camera manufacturer's IBIS does. It doesn't make your videos look gimbal-like but it really does help with the small amounts of shake that are caused by the movement of your hands. LIKE A PRETTY BIG DIFFERENCE. Especially at longer focal lengths. I did a quick comparison in my other video about the Sony a6600 and I turned on and off ibis while at 55mm and it is a noticeable difference when handheld. Now imagine if you were shooting at 85, 105, 200 or more. What this doesn't fix is shots while you're walking. There is no IBIS that I'm aware of that does this. There are some digital stabilizations that help with this but ibis just can't possibly move enough to counteract the shaking of walking. It still does help with the little shakes while you're walking but it's definitely not going to be gimbal-like... I think it might be time for a video on this since I obviously have a lot to say about it lol.

    Oh man I see what people mean when they say the Sony menu is nuts 🥜 that rode mic though .... I guess I’ll rent an a6600 and try it out. At least I know I have this video to watch to set it properly. Thank you

      Haha pretty in depth menus hey!
      Unfortunately, the audio you were hearing wasn’t coming from that mic. I had an issue with my setup and ended up using my normal overhead mic.
