The programmer didn't mention where he worked nor did he degrade or in any way talk shit about where he worked, just accurately represented what a thin slice of hell it is having to deal with idiots yet he still lost his job because the Canada Revenue Agency (and our entire government in general) has no sense of humour about anything. Ironically, the fact that he got fired over this game generated more news media and internet attention than if they had just left well enough alone.

Ferretgirl2014 AJ as an employee at a Call Center, I can at least say at my workplace we've developed a fairly strong community on the floor, so that whenever we get a total assbag we can vent and and talk about it with those around us. What was initially frustrating turns into a joke quickly enough. -but we do indeed get these calls every day.

The best thing is how the guy who answers the phone keeps his voice so friendly and nontempermental.
I remember having good chats with the callers from my phone contract supplier, I would always ask how their day is etc and talk about football then end with "you're amazing, you've helped so much, I hope you get a raise"

I know this all too well and it was worse for me, my job was to call people up and ask them to take part in a survey. I used to get so much abuse from people and got told to fuck off and kill myself on Christmas eve. The people on the other end of the phone never used to think that this was my job and I wasn't purposely trying to piss them off by asking them lots of questions. The managers at my place were horrible too, they loved making the young girls cry.
yeah, managers at a place i was at were actually pretty nice, they knew what it was like on the phones and helped people out.

Ive never worked in a call center, but I have worked with people as a cashier at a fast food place. Let me tell you, this game is pretty much exactly correct. not everyone is like that, but you have some stupid people come up to you. For every non retarded customer, you have at least one stupid one. I worked at a non-mcdonalds fast food place, and I had people ask for "mc"nuggets, "happy meals" and even "mc"chickens. note that these werent the 12 year old trolls that ask for a big mac (who we called retarded as soon as they left, and laughed at how dumb they were), these are adults who should know where the fuck they are.
I work in a supermarket and have to deal with so many stupid people asking dumb questions everyday too. THe amount of people that ask me if I work there while I'm wearing a uniform and name badge is ridiculously high

I know just what you mean, my buddy works in a supermarket too. He cant stand it, mainly because of stupid people. He told me once a woman came back with a box of Frosty Paws (a frozen ice-cream-like treat for dogs) and complained because it "tasted like shit".

I know what you mean, I have also worked with people as a cashier at a somewhat fast food place, not exactly fast food as we make the burgers at so it takes a few minutes for it to be ready. But when I have been standing at the register while I have been alone (We only have one register) I have had people walking up to another end of the counter and just looking at me then asking if they are supposed to order by the register.And some people that look at the menu and ask if we have anything else.

Having worked in a government call centre dealing with people's bills, I can 100% verify this as legit, there should be a time limit before your fired too, call time targets are a thing and people's stupidity can literally cost you your job.
Stupid people aren't even the worst either, I can deal with someone being an idiot and just going off on a rant because of their own stupidity. Old people can be the worst, asking them if they've received a letter can lead to anything between 2 and 10 minutes of them rummaging around for it. Then there's the life stories they sometimes come out with.
I've never worked a call center like this, but I feel the pain. I work at a nursery selling trees and shrubs. Sometimes people can't take their plants with them so they'll leave them for a couple days. When they come to pick them up they won't bring the receipt or they won't give it to the person(s) picking their plants up. They then expect us to give their plants away without proof of purchase and purchaser.

Sometimes people will try to process a return. No big deal, right, we try to be extremely forgiving in our return policy, and every customer signs their receipt when we sell them a plant saying that we explained the warranty to them. This warranty requires them to bring in the plant and the receipt, once we have those two things they have a gift card in minutes. People seem to think we can look up their receipt for them, and expect us to take their word for it that they have a dead plant. Neither of these things work.

I had a customer bring in plants, kind of, one day. She took pictures of the plants (excellent) and then cut off portions to bring in and prove they really were dead. Unfortunately for her, what she brought in was a weed tree which had grown straight up through the middle of her dead plant. Officially she didn't bring in any prove of her dead plant, but she did have the picture, so we try to be easy with the warranty and gave her the gift card anyway.
I wanted 2 donate to this guy but I don't really wanna buy this game Since it's just that ragemaking

I was at a call center long enough to complete the training. I spent *one day* taking actual calls before I knew that it wasn't worth the stress to keep the job.

The last time I called up a call centre it was for a password reset; only a basic security question needed but I remembered it (cos I'm not a piece of shit who doesn't plan ahead of calling a call centre). Such a lovey woman; she sounded honestly surprised when I thanked her and didn't treat her like shit.

I have never in my entire life felt the need to get frustrated with or insult a call center person. It really is unnecessary; these people are trying to HELP you, why would you be rude to them? Sure, it gets a bit irritating when they're being overly basic and explaining things to you about your situation that you already know about and for the more complicated stuff they ask you questions for an hour but it's part of their job. I have a friend, though, who just abuses them anytime she needs help, like she'll be pissed off that her cable's on the fritz and take it out on the person on the other side and she's always yelling that she wants to speak to the supervisor and I'm pretty sure she's gotten some people fired or at least given a warning or a strike or put on probation (however it works in those places). Unbelievable.

After working in a call center I always am extremely nice to the person on the other end just because I know what it's like to deal with utter twats, it's horrible

I got a job at a call centre during covid and I genuinely believe Dan was Underreacting. I've never hated a job more than that bloody cubicle, at least when I was work from home I could leave my room for a couple minutes.

I currently work in a call center and this simulation is SPOT ON! No one understands what "full" address/social/phone # means and nearly all callers act like you are wasting their time.

That is one of the reason I don't like to talk with call center agents.
Nothing against them personally - it is just awkward for all involved.
I prefer it written and preferably on their template.
That way, both sides can work in their pace and both sides have objective proves for what they did and did not do.
If I could go back in time, I'd call Dan through the call center and say "You're being activated, don't disappoint us." Then hang up.

I'm 15, if work is ANYTHING like that game, i'm just gonna not even try get a job, even if i'm poor.
I can guarantee you that most all jobs, aside from most government or government related jobs like this (I.E. any job that works with customer information), are quite simple and less stressful. Typically even if you are dealing with customers, you don't have to worry about the higher-ups so much when you do a minor screw up, but don't expect to be treated well. Personally I would suggest that you just try a random job out, any job at all, and see if you like it, if not then stay with it until you can get a better job. It isn't that bad.
Having a job is actually a surprisingly good feeling as long as you do something you like. I work in an animal hospital and I enjoy it a lot, yeah there's one person I want to brain with a breeze block and quite a few clients are a little more than crazy....or stupid, but even still I look forward to work every day and I'm sitting on a he'll of a savings because of it

I work at a call center now and it can be bad but tbh it don't bother me. I do tech support and people are usually grateful to have help. you get these here and there but some people also treat you great when you help them.
