    Firstly I have to admit I have both the lone rider tents the actual ADV tent is a good compromise if you don't want something as big as the moto tent, but there's enough room to sit up and get dressed and a small porch to cook under if it's raining. The poncho or tarp idea looks good, BUT if it's raining or windy or worse still midgets are about it wouldn't be fun stuck in there even for one night. The mototent is great for sheltered sites but it doesn't like wind much. The ADV tent is a good compromise.
    Having said all that you can buy a decent 3 man tent with a cooking area blacked out bedroom from Go out doors for £65 if budget is an issue.
    And yes definitely have the bike learning away from you even in the moto tent. Use a puck under the side stand and don't use a centre stand as the bike could still decide it's coming your way in the nigh.
