I’m not currently a motorcycle rider myself but I’ve had enough requests from my viewers to review this shelter that I went ahead and purchased it during a Black Friday Sale.

I bought this tent beginning 2023 for some trips with my motorcycle. Yes it is big, yes the tent on the motorcycle is big (you should have a big adv, then its somehow "ok"). BUT: 2 weeks of rain and some really stormy days in my 4 week trip to sweden and I can only say: 100 waterproof after 2 days constant rain; only tent I know of that size that is easy to set up on your own without help; a bit tricky to set up while stronger wind, but doable; HEAVEN ON EARTH, when it is constantly raining and you need to change cloths, cook, wash your stuff or plan your next day; Only small improvements needed to be not 99% perfect, but 100%, like more stability between the two red poles in the front area (water gathers there).
I absolutely love this tent as a adv motorcycle rider that does usually 3 weeks plus trips. Would buy it again at any time.
As always, great review! I've Been motocamping with this tent for about a year now, so I thought I'd weigh in. I have three camping setups: a lightweight two person, a tarp/hammock setup, and this. This is my favorite.
Yeah, it's heavy. It weighs 12+ lbs. That is about what ONE BMW hard pannier weighs. I use Mosko 25l scout soft panniers which weigh half that. So, the weight of this tent and my soft panniers is the same as a pair of empty hard panniers...
It is a BIG tent. But, all packed up, it is smaller than a top box. When touring, I don't carry a top box. The tent catches less wind than a top box, so the bike handles better at certain speeds.
This tent is REALLY nice in camp. That hook is strong enough to hang wet gear on. I can stand up, cook, take a helmet bath, spread my gear out, or just sit in my Helinox Zero with the awning open, and watch the rain.
People get real hard core about their ultralight motorcycle camping gear. Often, people end up staying in motels every other day or two. Eight or ten nights in a crappy motel will cost the same as a nice tent.
I have this tent. We use it for motorcycle and car trips. It is heavy, but when there is 2 of us we have room for both us and both bikes. We've used it camping with the car and more than enough space for us and 2 dogs as well. and that's 2 labradors sleeping with us. We are not small people either.

Bottom line, this tent is perfect for me. I'm an old retired guy. My wants; comfort, standing height, functionality, and my bike safely inside the tent with me and not left out in the environment.
Yes, it's a big tent but I consider it a perfect size for what it does. When I take down the tent, I roll up the tent very tightly and use cam lock cinch straps to compress the tent and then drop the tent into a top-loading dry bag. This way the volume is much smaller than using the Lone Rider stuff sack. Setting up and taking down the tent is actually very easy.
In my Years of Bike- Camping, i just saw a handfull People who got Tents like this. Most of us use normal Tents or Tarps, i got a super small and light Cover for my bike.
You're right, nobody goes out on a bike with snow, ice or high winds. It's over ingeneered. If conditions are so hard, you are in Alaska and you have snow machines, sledge and hot tents to comply with the conditions...

The original marketing material I watched years ago had this aimed at over landers, not your average weekend biker. I think it was done some where in a desert…. Why I have no idea.
@@leewilson98 So it was marketed as an "biker" tent... Too big and clumsy for a bike. Got better results with a cheap tent and a good tarp, providing the conditions a normal biker goes touring...
Yep, if its raining I just cover my bike with a poncho and sleep in my hammock or under a tarp.
I used this tent Moto camping around the EU and Russia for 4 months in 2018…I have a smaller stuff sack, much smaller than his. It’s a great tent, not too big, it’s manageable. I also have two other Moto camping tents, smaller. For very long trips this is good. For up to 3-4 days I use the smaller ones.
I've had my Lone Rider since 2015. I have 2 doors across from each other in garage & 2 doors at each end. They must have redesigned the tent since I got mine. I've been using the same adjustable poles & 16in. stakes as you did in video. I've had no problems in the wind or rain with this tent. Still works fine for me going on 8 years now. I need a place to stand up when get'n dressed or changing clothes. The garage will fit a 2016 Road Glide Ultra too. It works good when truck camping if I don't want to take the Napier Truck Tent.

Hi Luke. Well done. This is a TOP and very fair review of this tent. I have owned one of there tents for a few years now. I have been motorcycling for nearly 50 years now and I tour extensively. I own several tents. I wanted a tent I could stand up in, had plenty of space for sitting in on evenings, you could cook in it in the rain, and this tent has all of that which is great. The tent is very easy and quick to put up and take down. When it's wet I stuff the inside and outside into two different stuff sacks, so as the inside stays dry, and I stuff both bags into the Lone Rider bag. This tent is big and in windy conditions it is like a sail. The pegs that come with this tent are useless and will not hold it down in any wind. You won't have your tent for long if you use them. Use heavy duty longer pegs, and extra heavy pegs with the guy ropes. In my opinion there should be 6 guy ropes. The price of awnings and groundsheet are unreal, I have alternatives. For me this tent is great. It is big and heavy on a bike especially with decent pegs, but works for me and has all I want.
I had an issue with my tent and contacted Lone Rider. They sorted my without issue and their service was exceptional.
As a cheaper alternative and another great motorcycling tent consider the Coleman coastline 3 plus, which I also own. A great tent. I can't quite stand up in it, but has plenty of space, excellent value especially when on special on Amazon, has a square large sleeping area which a great advantage on sloping ground. Great video and info as always. Looks like a great tent for car camping. In my opinion though, if I’m spending that much, I would go with a Gazelle. It is a bit larger than this one when packed but if your using it for car camping, it is a much easier setup/breakdown than this. Just my thoughts.

Well thank you for a good and honest review, I also watched your other video of using this tent in the storm, you hit on a lot of good points, although one you did not mention is that it as 4 entrances not three, both sides open fully as well as the front and back, you would have to be in a very warm and still air type of country to not be able to get a through flow of air, I like the fact of using telescopic poles for the awnings and longer stakes, thank you. I was seriously considering this tent last year, but ended up getting an Exped Outer Space II and the matching footprint ground sheet. Which is almost the exact same tent, just a bit smaller when put up. Smarter, one-piece, all external pole system, way lighter, smaller packed size, and much more affordable. Team it up with a tarp, and you got a super camp system at a fraction of the packed volume of the MotoTent.
I’m about to look that tent up now thank you. My bike has a lot of stupid expensive audio gear but I do want to explore the outdoors so I’m trying to get the best I can for it

At 55 years old with a bad back, I use a 4 person Marmot Limestone so I can set up my Helinox Cot Max. It is amazingly comfortable and an excellent 3 season tent. I used it on my road glide special with tour pack. The tent fits perfect on the back luggage rack. This last April I drove from Wisconsin to Austin, TX for the MotoGP races at Circuit of the Americas and camped at thee track all weekend. This Lone Rider tent looks to be about the same size as the Marmot I use but looks to have much more features. I am thinking about purchasing it...
Do it without regrets just make sure sleeping area of tent cover is stretched away from inner tent as condensation will build up in rain if the two are touching
I like the concept and the configuration. Although pricey I would love to take one on motocampi trips.
Love the review Luke. I bought a tent from the UK for $2k. Would love to see your thoughts on it. It's a giant family tent. Definitely not for hiking lol. But it's the best family tent I've ever owned.
thx 4 the great and fair review done on it - I am having it for ARCTIC and SUB-ARCTIC rides with my Roadking... no issue to pack it, ... piece of cake for my HARLEY... it is awesome... top- recommendation for all those who want that extra comfort while camping, priceless to have it when it's bucketing over days.... go for it.... even tents 4 times more expensive are having their issues due to insufficient QM applied, bullshitting buyers... watch it, we have reached to an era where there is NO moral and ethics any longer.... almost everyone is cheating, everyone !
Great review. As for carrying on a motorcycle, I’ve carried much more bulk and weight on many motorcycle trips. I will say that i looked at this tent and decided it was just too expensive for me. I went with a tarp instead.

I still feel this tent is way too big to be on the back of a motorcycle, maybe for 2 days tops but there is no way you can take enough gear for a long trip with that thing strapped on!
It’s actually a dangerous idea. Unless you’re going out with a bike trailer setup. Better to just pack lighter with a lightweight bike cover.
Easy to take on motorcycle trips. Know plenty of people who have these style tents. And have no issues going off-road on their ktms or bmw adventure bikes. There are better brands then this one

I bought this tent at a discount price too....absolutely love it considering I can get my bike in it....I'm also going to buy the poles as you did...I'm rubbish with size so going to buy an additional ground sheet what size would be best...also I've upgraded the tent pegs too...I'm currently riding a triumph 900 gt pro so the tent is no problem on the back. Obviously be careful if you have a smaller bike...Great review 😉 regards Stuart.

No one is taking their motorcycle out in heavy snow and high winds, so the 3+ season is perfect. But your point about the heat is spot on - it’s warm in the hottest parts of the country in the summer, but there really isn’t a perfect solution - last summer riding through the Rockies we experienced days as hot as 110 with that night dropping to 30-40. A summer tent is nice when you first go to sleep, but not in the morning. This tent is too warm when you go to sleep, but much better on that cold morning.

I have the Redverz Atacama it has similar short coming setting up but improvements over the Lone Rider. For example multiple tie downs and screen doors in the garage area for air flow. I lived a week in it on the road at Sturgis. I lived through high winds, thunderstorms, heat and cold nights. Packing away was never a problem, even wet. As for loading up on the bike it stands up and fits in my Saddlemen S3500 with a little muscle and room for more stuff.
The atacama is only 4,000mm waterproofing, and why do you need venting in the garage? It's open on the bottom.
It's also way bigger +3 pounds and larger stowed footprint.
@@nvrmor1189 The airflow on hot days was welcome but I might be remembering wrong about the front door having a screen. 3lbs isn't a dealbreaker since I'm not backpacking it. I stayed dry through heavy thunderstorms and wind, so I can say it's waterproof.

We are seeing that far too often and no one sees it, or turns their heads away. First it was Madoff, now recently crypto currency guy, who was living it up in the Bahamas. Can you do a comparison of the wolf walker motorcycle tent on Amazon. Same layout as this but 1/3 the price. I'm not expecting it to be the same quality but being many feel this tent is over priced maybe the other is a better value.
Having watched your previous video of the rainy truck overnight with this tent and to hear your "in use comments" at that time, it was neat to see this component breakdown and technical opinion of the tent itself. The price point and the physical size (while in the stowed configuration) would be a major concern for someone using it as a bike tent. Now, with that being said, to purchase it to use as a truck camping unit (where you have the space to carry it) AND it was to be used on a "regular basis", then I could see justifying the cost. It all depends on one's needs and what they are looking to get out of something like this. It is impressive though.
(EDIT) Luke, just on a sort of "strange/coincidental/weird" sidenote, I did 3 or 4 or those "answer these questions to find your spirit animal" questionnaires and in each one the results were a wolf.
The pack down size is significant. Used in a two-person moto-traveling setup the pillion passenger would struggle to find a place to sit
Well I like the idea of a large tent. I have a small tent and a large tarp that provides shade, wind and rain production. Bag that carries all my food, water, and other equipment. This tent is tempting but I'll keep with my small setup.
About to pull the trigger on this tent... the one and only day of the year it is on sale (afaik). As a few others have mentioned, size does not bother me, it is actually an advantage... having had (minor) knee surgery a few months ago, I want a tent I can stand in. The less time spent on my knees the better. It will go in the 110l Unplugged bag I just bought along with my other main camping gear and strap nicely on the back of my Tiger 1200 (no top box).
I ordered the recommended longer steaks, and post for the awnings.
You should have a look at the Naturehike Opalus tunnel tent. 2, 3 or 4 person versions. It's not as tall as this one but the materials, pack size and weight are superior. I have the 4 person and it can be converted to have a stove jack and make a hot tent out of it.
I used to tour on motorcycles and did just fine with a tent for two that cost $60 and a single tent handed down to me by my father worth quite a bit more. His steed was a Harley Electroglide and mine was a Norton 850. His bike could accommodate this tent, but the Norton? Forget it. I'm not enamored by the price either. Having said that it's a good looking tent with attractive functionality.

Thank you for this second review, Luke. I saw your rainy camping experience with this tent a few days ago. And I must note, a very cool Toyota. But how do you drive seated on the right side? I bought this tent at the “Black Friday” sale too. I was considering this tent for my motocamping this year for some time, but when I saw it at 20% off, I had to pull the trigger. Being winter here in the Chicago area I have not unpacked it, but I look forward doing so in the Spring. I was tired if bending down and not being able to stand to put my clothes on in my smaller Nemo Osmo Dagger tent. Weight and size on my BMW R1250RT or my GS should be no problem. Luke - I would like to see you do some fixed blade camping knife reviews. Have you used the Lionsteel T5? Be safe and keep the videos coming. I am subscribed.

Have such a tent from the original manufacturer. Redverz Atacama Expedition. about the same price now. Lone Rider I think was $200 cheaper when it came out. bought it because i am a bit older. wanted to avoid crawling on all fours to get in and out of the tent. and easier to dress standing up.
Biker and backpacker here with an opinion: For a fraction of the space and weight, you are way better off with a regular backpacking tent - you can put it anywhere with good drainage, quiet, away from light, fits in smaller spaces, etc. Then carry also a good lightweight tarp. The tarp can be setup over your bike or a picnic bench, either by itself or as a porch for your tent. This thing is way way too bulky and heavy for motorcycle camping use.
Personally, I would purchase something like this in a minute!
I've been looking at this tent for a long time.
I think for the price/limitations with strength as well as the pack size/bulk I'd much rather pay the extra money and go for something like a Hilleberg Keron/Kaitum GT which would offer a full four season use in the most demanding use, they're pretty much bomb proof and pack down much smaller than this tent and of course last a lifetime if taken care of. Thanks again Luke . I like the tent I dont like the materials its made of. The price is way to high. Tarps can still serve the same purpose espically a Aqua quest Defender tarp and a nice teton tent under it.

It's packed size looks really large for motorcycle camping.. you would definitely need a motorcycle with large bags on the sides so you can just carry this on your back and everything else in storage.
I'm a sport bike guy with a 22 Hayabusa and a H2 though so my thoughts are prob a bit different than the dudes riding couches with wheels
Looks like a viable tent for the motorcycle that drags a cargo trailer. I'd never waste that much behind the seat packing room on just a tent on my ADV bike.
Have the Original Redverz tent which is the first of this type of tent. Lone Rider have made a similar style of tent from this design.

I have a Vango Turino 300 verson, ie moto tent we got it as Mrs has damaged Vertebrae so can fully stand up.
It's expensive for me even as a motorcyclist
I also looked at the Alacante there are a few simler tents.
I do a lot of motorcycle (dual sport) riding and to me this tent is way to heavy and big. It just takes up to much space along with the weight and just packs unneeded girth. A kelty 2 person or Marmot 1 person tent is more practical for that type of adventures on a motorcycle. I like your review and would look at it more for car camping/overlanding from a SUV/Truck. I look forward to you reviews in this situations.

found something very similar to that tent from Naturehike, it's called Naturehike Cloud Tourer 2, it's around 300usd to 350usd. but I haven't seen any good reviews about it.
Great video. One of the better ones - I've watched about 5 on this tent - but none of the show how easy/hard it is to put the bike in as the whole point of this tent is to put the bike in it. Now, if you put the bike in so it will lean away from the sleeping compartment and not fall on top of you in the night, how easy is it to maneuver the bike into the bike area? I'd only buy one of these tents in order to put my bike into it so it's kind of the most important bit for me. Again, great video

As usual, Great video and all good points, Amigo. I've had mine for a full season now and Love it! I haven't used it in 'severe' winter conditions ... but I'd say at least moderate-to-heavy, with no issues. Full disclosure, I have a RoadHawk Trike and pull a trailer, so size and weight aren't huge considerations. If you can comfortably afford the $600.00, you'd be hard pressed to find a better tent. It is Pricey but it shelters Your Ride Sleeps 2 completely waterproof says a lot, My 2 Wheeler is an E Bike it would be too big for the small back rack but for motorcycle riders I've seen cargo trailers that may work for a lot of cross country travelers
I have a friend who has one of those tent ( what we don't know is that if this the company that bought the company that was making these type of tents cause he has one but you no longer can read the name of the tent and when we tried to get one for our self the company was no longer in business) the tent you have there looks like the same but the one he has has a jack at two different places to use a stove
I have a competitors version made by Redverz…solo expedition model…for moto camping with my BMW GS Adventure. It’s fine if your ride destination is such that you can get there in a day, set up and stay for a few days while doing day rides in the area, then return home. Or if you’re setting up at a bike rally campground for a few days. But for multi day transcontinental touring it was more work and weight than I cared to deal with. On the return leg of one trip I sent it back home via UPS. In hindsight I regret the purchase for those reasons, not the quality of the tent which is very good. I’m sticking with my Marmot Limelight 2 two-person tent which packs well on my bike, travels well and sets up/breaks down easy.
As I see, the tent fly and fabrics thickness is very thin (I understood that it reduces the weight of the product for packing) but I just don’t trust that for longevity at all, and the price itself is far too much.

I've wanted to get that exact tent for a while now but when I'm on my bike I find it easier to use my bedroll. I'm not normally camping on the bike in weather.
Thinking of geting this tent. In Sweden it rains a lot. To have somewear to sit on a chair when it is pouring down would be great❤
I used this tent Moto camping around the EU and Russia for 4 months in 2018…I have a smaller stuff sack, much smaller than his. It’s a great tent, not too big, it’s manageable. I also have two other Moto camping tents, smaller. For very long trips this is good. For up to 3-4 days I use the smaller ones.
Good tent but size makes it prohibitive on a motorcycle without a trailer set up. I use the Litefighter 1 person tent with cold weather add on for my travels. I ride a GW GL1800
Looked at this tent years ago, was always put off but the price.
As for the weight and size, wouldn’t have bothered me on an adventure bike, easily fit sling over the seat and maybe on top of a hard pannier.
When you think a pillion passenger would be something like 50-80KG I’m not bothered by 6KG of tent.
If they ever made one suitable for hot tenting with fitted stove jack, I’d consider it again.
Anyone who riders something like a BMW GS isn’T going to care about the size. Just check out how packed some of the German riders bikes are…..practically a skyscraper loaded on the back 😂
Enough room to put the bike in also, my dad had a small trailer he pulled that had most of his gear in it

I love the idea of this tent, but it’s just so big. I’m on an R1250 GSA and use a Moso Moto 80l rackless luggagw system and this would pretty much consume 80-100% of the 50l of the bag I put on the rear. Normally I put my sleeping bag and water there, so that would need to move, leaving little room for anything else. I’m sure it’s doable with on-road riding only, but seems way too much bulk for dual sport applications.

Nice review. I have used the tent for moto camping over the last few years now.
The pack size is huge but if you are camping solo, I can just strap it to the pillion seat and it’s fine.
It comes into its own during bad weather. Yes it’s waterproof but just being able to stand up and move around in it is really good. When the weather comes in, sometimes you just want to stay put and sit it out on a bike (different in a car).
The only drawback is no specific vent in the outer shell other than the gaps along the bottom.
Have you ever reviewed the Shift Pod? They are more of a shelter then a tent.
Thumbs up for that sexy Toyota alone! Could you get your hands on a Slumit cub 2 to test? I've got that for my motorcycle camping and I really like it. It would interesting see your views. Not sure how much the postage would be from here in the UK though....

I had the equivalent tent made by redverz and it was great but too heavy so I sold it and bought hilleberg tent instead
Luke, I’m seeing a trend here, think it’s time to put a dirt bike receiver hitch rack on the Yoda. And of course a Yamaha TW200

Prices for everything have gone up. I've just accepted it. In 2 years we'll look at a $600 tent like this as reasonable.
I love this tent so much. I take this out all the time on my Yamaha mt03
I have considered converting this to a hot tent for several years but it is pricey for what you get.
Its a nice handy tent but ya to carry on a motorcycle naw dont think so , I would use it for car camping but have seen them on amazon here in Ontario for a more affordable cost thanks for the review .
