@@youtubeuser8951 It's just a polite information on the definition of a word used in this video. And there's nothing wrong with making mistakes but imo one should always strive to correct them the next time so information like that can be helpful.
I always viewed the ‘i’ as standing for ‘intelligent’ like an ‘intelligent’ Mac or an ‘intelligent’ phone or ‘intelligent’ pad. Always worked for me. That’s what it’ll mean for me. I guess the beauty of the ‘i’ is you can personalise what you think it should mean.
I think the main reason they are dropping the “i” in its name is mainly the trademark issues. The video skipped a lot of the trademark issues that Apple went through when the iPhone was released for example, there was an “iPhone” already out there that was owned by Cisco prior to the release. The switch to the Apple in names of products does have a lot to do with brand recognition but mainly for the simple fact that the Apple logo is trademarked and protected so there won’t be more issues going forward or hopefully less issues going forward with them since they already own the trademark for the Apple logo. One thing I love about Apple's product names is how the names become so iconic, they almost become synonymous with whatever product line you're talking about. Back when the iPod was popular, I remember kids at school would call pretty much any MP3 player an iPod, because it rolled off the tongue a lot quicker than "MP3 Player", and people knew what you were talking about when you said iPod. It's almost a similar story with the iPhone and iPad, where people know you're talking about a smart phone or tablet when you say those names. It's kinda like that whole joke about a kid playing a video game on an Xbox and the mom coming in saying "How long are you gonna stay on that Nintendo?" The same way Nintendo is practically synonymous with video games, Apple products tend to be the same way. "Those kids and their damn iPhones"...it's always the go to word when talking about smart phones, whether you're an iOS person, Android person, or don't use a smart phone at all. And even if they don't become household names, for example the HomePod and Apple TV, the names are straight forward and you know what you're getting. When you hear "HomePod", you know it's a music player for the home, and well Apple TV needs no explanation. Other companies tend to use some cool snazzy sounding word to sell their product, like Samsung and their Galaxy phones...but does Galaxy really tell you what you're getting? Microsoft calls their tablets "Surface"....but unless you stretch your imagination that doesn't tell me right away that it's a tablet. I don't wanna go as far as saying Apple products are named for idiots who can't tell what's what, but what the names do is effectively tell you everything you need to know about the product. You know that the Mac is a regular desktop, and that the MacBook is a laptop. Just that subtle change, adding Book to the end of the name, is all you need to get the point across that it's a laptop. It rolls off the tongue, and the names become as iconic as the products themselves. I'm not as big a fan of the products that are just named Apple ______, like the Apple Watch and Apple Pencil...I'm more of a fan of the ones that sound simple, yet futuristic, like something you'd find in an episode of Star Trek. I don't know what it is about iPhone...but just adding that "i" makes it sound like a futuristic product. And iPod, AirPods, HomePod...the whole Pod suffix can make anything sound like it's from the future.
The “i” names are very charming. iPhone, iPad, iBook, iMac, iWatch, they all sound recognizable and iconic while being super simple. Kind of amazing how they managed that. I'd have stuck with it.
You forget a very important issue: many people registered all sort of products with the "I" prefix such as iCar, iWatch, ITV etc. so that if apple would like to use it, they'd have to pay them a huge fee. This even happened to the iPhone name which was used by another company long before the release of the iPhone. they simply got inspired by iMac and iBook and iPad.
The iPhone is so iconic it is recognizedby just about anyone anywhere so I doubt it would go away. My mom knows nothing about tech but when she hears iPhone, she knows that it's the phone from Apple
It would also be weird if they called a product iWatch... I Watch.... when people are so concerned with their devices spying on them at all times. I can totally imagine that being the entire reason they didn't go with iWatch.
I think it’s worth noting that on the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro, the “iPhone” text has been removed from the rear glass, and instead it is just an Apple logo.
*iThink Tim Cook will not change the iPad to Apple Pad and the iPhone to Apple Phone, because they are the most well-known device names in the world and therefore it would not be fair to change them anyway. However, I didn't know that Apple TV came out in 2006 and that the name Mackintosh had come from an apple. For me Tim Cook did well to call Apple Watch and not iWatch the watch. I am someone who practically only has apple devices at home, even the iPhone 1 (2G) and I would not be happy that in the future Apple could change the names of the most famous devices in the whole world. This is my opinion. still beautiful video, but, since there are also Italians who watch your videos (me), try to speak more slowly so that you don't have to put subtitles*
My guess is in the future they won’t name any new products with the i prefix. iPad, iPhone, etc. are familiar enough they don’t need to be changed. Not certain though
Kemba Walkers Burner Still doesn't make sense. No one wants to say Apple phone 12 pro max, or Apple pad pro, doesn't roll off the tongue at all. Which in return will confuse the average consumer
But remember the irony? Apple was an also-ran until the visit that Steve Jobs made to, I think, xerox, and saw the graphic user interface, then filched it free of charge?
I think they are doing so to avoid getting the i everywhere because it will become a common scheme and lose its value. Also a product with different naming scheme would get a chance to build its own reputation and niche rather than selling under the hood of the an umbrella term. That is what being iconic is...
they prob did it for their own benefit as well, as legal problems with courts or whoever sayign microsoft had a monopoly on pc market blah blah and they will be fined, so they helped apple come back a little bit just to get out of this legal problem, then sold all their apple stock asap
We all how Apple is a valuable brand and in my opinion it would have been better to keep the prefix < i > Everyone knows about the Apple.. No matter which type of marketing strategy’s Apple Team implement, it will be still the choice of the customers whether to buy it or not at the end of day..
Is it crazy that I have thought about why for example the Apple Watch isn‘t called iWatch in the past but still the iPad and iPhone are so iconic that I havent even consciously noticed that not one of the new products has the i prefix? Kinda strange to think about right now.
I like the i and the naming, it’s perfect the way it is now leaving their most iconic products with the i. Everyone knows who makes the iPhone, iPad and iMac, there is definitely no confusion about who makes those products! I just wish I would have been smart enough at the time to hang in to my original iBook like I did with several models of the original iMac, including the first Bondi Blue iMac!
No mention of the market segmentation that the i-prefix originally represented? i-devices and i-apps were the *consumer* versions of those products, distinguishing them from the more professional (or for the time, more standard) versions. iMac vs Power Mac, iBook vs PowerBook, iPhoto vs Aperture, iMovie vs Final Cut Pro, etc. That doesn't mean there always has to be an i-product and a non-i-product. The iPod never really had a pro model, it's inherently a consumer device, and the same can be said for the iPhone. But an i-device isn't supposed to be the pro version. That's why I find it laughable that there are products like the iPhone 11 Pro, or the iPad Pro. Those are jumbo shrimp, cheap fancy, or whatever oxymoron you care to choose. It shows not only that they don't care to continue i-names, but they've also blown away the meaning of the ones that remain.
They should change the "i" to "ä̴̢̨̰̩̮̫̭̝̖̺̩̟͙́́̑b̵̯̈́̓̅͝o̶̬̦̬̮̳͍̲̗̒͋̀̅̌̎m̴̬͚̋̒̊̃̽̎͗́į̶̨̳̰̙̤̭͂͂̐̈́̿́̇̑̿͜ṇ̸̡̛͕̻͚͔̘̹̰͚͎̯̀̿̒̒͐́̋͛́̂͑̿ą̷̡͍̥̠͚̫͎̬͔͉͋̚͜t̵͉̩̹̮͉̳̫̙͉̥̎͒̆̿͜ĩ̵̧̧̡̢̫̣͙̤̙͇͇̻̎̿̒̕͝ͅơ̶̧̡̛͎͇͉̯̼͆̂̀̀̎̆̐̈́͋̄̿̎͠n̸̝̣̘͔̼̗͛̃ͅ" to make it more streamlined, iconic and easy to remember.
4:26 I once attended a conference where Segall spoke of working with Apple and he also spoke about "MacMan". Steve Jobs at the time likened it to the Walkman; Jobs was very fascinated about what Sony had done with it's products in the 80s, apparently. Imagine having a PhoneMan, PadMan and WatchMan these days, let alone that it would contradict today's gender discussion…
The "i" prefix was fine 20 years ago, because the Internet was seen as cool and futuristic. But now it just seems old fashioned even though iPad is easier to say and sounds better than Apple Pad.
Or why didn’t they just keep the Apple naming scheme when they started with Macintosh, like they could’ve had the Granny Smith, the Jonathan, the Golden Delicious, the Fuji, and the Gala.
The Macintosh never would have been named "Apple 4" anyway because they were two completely different systems with two different directions in the market at the time the Mac was introduced. The Apple II line continued alongside the Macintosh line until the early 90s. Apple needed about a decade to transition people into the Mac line from the II series, it was that serious.
"iPhone" is just WAY too iconic that I hardly doubt that it will ever change. People always know what an "iPhone" is and that its made by Apple. "Apple Phone" would be kinda confusing and it sounds stupid ^^

I like the icon change. Keep it this time!
iPod? Nah Apple Pod.
Red Dragon Nah Air Pod
wait...
Apple iPod pro max
Apple iPod Pro Max R c Tw F1 V2 Second Edition Premium Lite IX Gold Edition
If they called the TV “iTV” it would not go down well.
lol it took me a full 2 mins to work out what you meant🤣
3 views what?
I'd say Apple's namings have been great to date, and not confusing at all!
ApplePhone 🤩
Man you get me with all those subliminal ads, talk about subtle
Bill Gates SAVED Apple from bankruptsy in 1997 🤮
ranburn what’s with the vomiting
they prob did it for their own benefit as well, as legal problems with courts or whoever sayign microsoft had a monopoly on pc market blah blah and they will be fined, so they helped apple come back a little bit just to get out of this legal problem, then sold all their apple stock asap
1RnSghT yea they kinda needed to save the competition to stay safe
We all how Apple is a valuable brand and in my opinion it would have been better to keep the prefix < i >
Everyone knows about the Apple.. No matter which type of marketing strategy’s Apple Team implement, it will be still the choice of the customers whether to buy it or not at the end of day..
They call it AppleCare, cause they don’t want to tell you iCare.
But iCare.
Lol
Fun, fun, good.
Is it crazy that I have thought about why for example the Apple Watch isn‘t called iWatch in the past but still the iPad and iPhone are so iconic that I havent even consciously noticed that not one of the new products has the i prefix? Kinda strange to think about right now.
"iPaid"
"iPeed"
iCame
iCup
iCommitedTaxFraud
Son: I have an iPad!
Daughter: I have an iPhone!
Dad: And iPaid...
MEXiCO
MacMan? Funny that it couldn’t play Pac-Man.
They could literally call it “phone” and nothing would change
not really.
3:02 And what about the Macintosh Portable?
iPod
iPhone
and now is without the "i"
Macbook
Mac
Wow
I liked the "Big Cats" idea behind the 10.0x line of OS. Tiger (10.4...) rocks, so does, now, the Mountain era "El Capitan", rocks, too!

Wow, thanks for pointing that out. In fact, you’ve Won the TH-cam Detective Award
Here’s you medal 🥉
So thats why luxo crushes the i in pixar

The iPhone software was named iPhone OS until iOS 4 and iOS on iPad was renamed iPad OS since iOS 13
ITV has been around since 1955 in the UK so would have also had a lot more brand recognition compared to Apple's iTV.
no one in America would give a fuck though, so...
The segue into your sponsor made me chuckle.
Awww I can’t make my punch line anymore, “you’re the Apple of my i”
The "i" prefix was fine 20 years ago, because the Internet was seen as cool and futuristic. But now it just seems old fashioned even though iPad is easier to say and sounds better than Apple Pad.
What about the Apple iRapedyoursister?
Or why didn’t they just keep the Apple naming scheme when they started with Macintosh, like they could’ve had the Granny Smith, the Jonathan, the Golden Delicious, the Fuji, and the Gala.
My favourite could have been model is the "Scrumpy Cider Lisa 1".
i still remember when 'iMeme' was a thing.. ah.. good ol' days..
