    As an iOS engineer working on apps well throughout that era, you’re forgetting a key issue with iOS 7. The radical UI/UX changes in such a short time made developing apps for iOS hell. Often apps had to maintain compatibility with both design languages, UIKit was extraordinarily buggy, and app experiences just felt very unpolished and broken, especially from Apple’s own apps. It wasn’t until iOS 10 that things SLOWLY began to take shape into the level of cohesion and polish that we’re only just now starting to have again with iOS 14.

    • @faithzero6338

    • @Ranger1812
      @Ranger1812 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Dracogame UI and UX aren't the same thing. That's a false equivalence. iOS 6 looking like it's predecessors has nothing to do with its function, just as iOS 14 is very similar-looking but massively more usable than iOS 7.

    • @Dracogame
      @Dracogame 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@Ranger1812 No man, iOS 6 wasn't just similar looking to iOS 5. I clearly remember that time. iOS4 was fire. iOS5 was kind of a let down. iOS6 was when the hype kinda died. Then they showed iOS7.
      On top of that, iOS7 shares some design philosophy with iOS14, but between the two a lot has changed. Buttons, fonts, design language... It's completely different.

      on Android you get 2 or 3 major update, and a lot of big change every major update.
      on iOS you get 5 years, but small update every year.
      both are great the way they are, I use both, but i would like iOS to be more customizable

      I donno, with how many of these videos he's making I just wish he'd invest in a decent microphone rather than whatever I'm hearing or rather how poorly it's always recorded. Literally no other big tech content creator or company history reviewer is this bad. Bright Sun Films and Cold Fusion do it well and even Company Man with his unsure naisally sounding voice records properly. It just sounds like he's using the bare minimum with reflects in oversights like getting the whole program wrong despite seeing the interface clearly.

    Skeuomorphism wasnt removed, it was reduced. The apps themselves were no longer skeuomorphic, but the icons used for actions and apps still remained as skeuomorphs.
    For example, the camera app went from a more realistic icon of a camera, to a less realistic one. It didnt become less skeuomorphic, it doesnt represent a camera any less, but it was less detailed. It was only skeuomorphic where necessary, where it actually helped make the UI more usable.
    I think UI on older operating systems, while visually pretty, was actually pretty bad for productivity, especially for multitasking. Modern UI has its only beauty, from its functionality.

      I feel like Apple products had more personality back then. My 2009 MacBook I'm using right now to type this still looks great to me, almost 10 years later. It's aged decently. I've upgraded it to 8GB of ram, now it just needs an SSD. The old Core 2 Duo processor is a bit lacking though. I'm debating getting a new touch bar 13" MacBook Pro. The configuration I want is 2,200 USD. I'm not really sure if I want to spend that much. Might have to take a test drive on the normal MacBooks and the Air at a Best Buy or Apple Store before settling on a Pro. Not sure if I really need the Pro's power. I'm not good at knowing what specs are really that good for Mac, since I'm mainly a PC guy. So the low clock speeds on the Air and normal MacBooks just sounds bad to me. But macOS is very optimized.

    As a huge iOS 7 fan, something important was left out here: the bugs. I have used all iOS versions from iPhone OS 2.0 on, and never before had an iOS release been so prone to bugs and glitches. They ironed most out by iOS 8, but since iOS 7, multiple iOS launches have been plagued by bugs. I think iOS has much better graphic design and functionality than it did in the pre-7 days, but that camp has a strong argument in stability.

      Honestly you'd be surprised at how smooth and magical the design is when you use it for many years. I have many devices around that are on iOS 6 and they are buttery smooth on it. There's so many little things that you really appreciate that you wouldn't expect to and they make the OS overall so much better. iOS 6 overall was an operating system with it's main goals focusing on being functional, easy to understand for everyone of all ages, and just what you need in a smartphone. A small thing in iOS 6 that is not present in 7 and up is that the Phone app runs in the background all the time. As soon as you tap the app icon, it's ready to go, where in newer versions, you will be waiting a few seconds for it to launch. This makes perfect sense being that it is a phone and the most important thing in a phone, is the phone.
      I get frustrated at iOS 12 everyday from it's highly unintuitive lockscreen/notification center combination. Slide to Unlock is a lot more intuitive than spamming your home button multiple times for it to unlock given that you don't use TouchID. Another thing that really drives me crazy is when I try to scroll in the lockscreen and a notification randomly swipes over when you'd expect the page to scroll like you wanted. I've also experienced this same issue when trying to open the camera from the lockscreen, where I would open a notification instead of the Camera like I wanted it to do. In iOS 6, notifications didn't do anything unless you touched the icon paired with it, then the slide to open rail would appear. Scrolling is never an issue on the lockscreen and the gesture to open the Camera doesn't have any relation to the notifications, so it will open the Camera every time you slide it. This is a big example as to why you can not mash multiple things into one container. You must separate them or else they will conflict with each other, making things much more difficult. Frankly I don't see how this behavior in iOS 12 is considered "smart." I will admit that there are some things that definitely needed to be changed in iOS 6, but given how minor these things are compared to the giant list of inconveniences in iOS 12, 6 crushes it. I could write a huge essay as to why iOS 6 is superior in user experience and intelligence over iOS 12, but I will keep things brief here.

    Imo iOS7 was very slick (though I never used Apple Maps, I stuck to Google Maps) and I liked the new UI. The only thing I didn't like about iOS7 was replacing the single bar with the 5 dots. I prefer signal bars. Now iOS12 I really do love especially for my iPad Air 2 since I can have more than just 4 icon shortcuts on the bar. Something I've been wanting since the very first iPad. After all, the iPads bigger screen size just screamed "I can fit more" but nothing was done until now.
