The best buy in the GC-L is the Overland trim with the 5.7L V8. Picked up one a few weeks ago for $56K. The V8 provides plenty of power for a vehicle of this size/weight. I've been averaging around 16mpg in city, 19mpg on the hwy. Fortunately, gas is cheap where I live, currently $2.69 for 89 octane fuel.

Hi Alex. Good review video for 2023-2024 Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the Summit trim. Overall, Jeep did a great job making this grneration vehicle get higher levels of recognition. What they did first was when this fifth generation got released couple years ago, they released the third row L version first due to the fact that lots of Jeep Grand Cherokee fans were asking for a Grand Cherokee offering third row seating. Asking for it since the third generation. Generally speaking, there's no such thing as the perfect vehicle. There are couple things Jeep need to improve on for the Jeep Grand Cherokee L. However, Jeep delivered by offering some features, utility and flexibility that are MIA from the competition either mainstream or luxury brand makers. Five months back in July I was able to purchase the 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the Summit Reserve trim. Mine is nicely equipped with the 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine. Between this engine and the 3.6 liter Pentastar V6, it's basically a night and day difference. Significant difference in performance especially at the first point of acceleration. Before I made my purchase I test drove the vehicle twice with the V6 and once with the V8. After I test drove the one with the V8 engine, I said to myself there's no way I will get the V6. With the V8 engine 0 to 60mph is 6.2 seconds. I did not test it out yet by brake torquing the engine and did not test it out yet in Sport Mode doing the 0 to 60. In the coming days, I'll do it with those two actions and mention the times I will get in a future posting. As for the Lexus TX, based on some review videos I've seen for it, Lexus borrowed two styling cues and two physical features from the Jeep Grand Cherokee L. The styling cues borrowed are from the interior in the instrument cluster screen. The fuel gauge and temperature gauge is in horizontal bar graph form. Two features they borrowed from the Jeep are the grab handles found on the wheel wells to assist in getting into the third row and secondary power folding third row seat buttons on the wheel wells. As for the Jeep Grand Wagoneer, I hope you'll do a review video that vehicle. That vehicle is the direct competitor for the Cadillac Escalade and Lincoln Navigator. Also a competitor for the Mercedes GLS, BMW X7 and Infiniti QX80, but primarily for the Escalade and Navigator. OBTW, another reason I had to get the Jeep Grand Cherokee L with the V8 engine is because my old third generation Jeep Grand Cherokee which I still have has a V8 engine as well.
Hope they fix the AC issue. It is under size for the car. I trade my 2022 in for a Lightning. The AC could not cool down the car after 5 minutes in Texas summer heat. My sons always sweating in the rear seats. My Pacifica has bigger air volumes and it cool the car down quick.
When it comes to Jeep's MSRP one should stress the S part. Higher trim Grand Cherokees currently go $10K below MSRP currently without even trying to negotiate.
The Land Rover wasn't always luxury either. It has basically the same off-road capable roots as the Jeep. If it could go luxury, there's no reason Jeep can do the same. I also think the Grand Wagoneer is off to a great start. However, in going luxury it does leave a lot of its loyalist out in the cold unable to afford anything beyond the base trim. Anyway, in my view, this is what the Grand Wagoneer should have been based on. Instead of its current polarizing design, it could simply have been the bigger brother/version of the already familiar Jeep Grand Cherokee.
Both the Jeep Grand Cherokee and Wagoneer, and the Lexus LX and GX, were created in response to the Range Rover going full luxury under BMW ownership (P38 and L322).
I assume they cut it because they have coverage of the interior of this gen Grand Cherokee/Grand Cherokee L in other videos, there’s a couple of videos they’ve made with this gen.
Last comment, as someone who’s parents rent large vehicles when they visit to fit everyone, having tons of time in the Suburban/yukons, Expedition Max and also wagoneer, with the exception that the rental agencies don’t have the Wagoneer L since it’s a relatively new product, I can tell you without a shadow of a doubt none of the other two comes close to the wagoneer in terms of its interior. It’s a fantastic vehicle. However if I was spending my own money, I would go for a suburban because of relatively simple powertrain that doesn’t break the bank when problems arise. Plus I know lots of mechanics remove the cylinder deactivation because of engine failures, anyways I’m ranting now, the wagoneer is the nicest in my estimation even though that is not where I would put my money
like it has a v8 , needs a solid rear axel , trail rated trail hawk , no 3rd row ,could be a great off roader car camper , overlander more utilitarion model
⚠️‼️For me it has been the worst purchase. I sold my Audi Q8 to purchase this Jeep and I received terrible service and the air conditioning and heating failed and the factory was never able to repair it. I sold Cherokee and lost more than 50 thousand dollars. I'm definitely going back to Audi.
Great review! Not that you asked but: I would have liked to see some discussion about the front seats, dash, and infotainment. You rank this higher than most competitors for Tech/Luxury but the screen looks small and outdated which has to be a big part of tech. Truthfully, I think Tech and Luxury should be separate categories.
Screen size notwithstanding, at the price of Summit, you can also add on a passenger screen that is still relatively exclusive in the auto industry that is absent in a number luxury vehicles. Jeep options on high-end sound systems, rear seat infotainment screens, and beyond that, the GC further has massaging seats w/ a multitude of adjustment, etc. It is quite extensive for a mainstream brand.
There is no advantage to the petrol v6 engine at that price base, only the almost hybrid is still a bit of value for money, but not actually fuel efficient. Very much don't understand why the v6 turbo diesel engine has been phased out, it's just a self defeating proposition.
All figures I find from a quick Google Search indicates the Grand Highlander and TX have the same legroom limits. Did Lexus play funky with the numbers to get such a low combined legroom figure?
The MPGs are off, we got an overland L for two years now. City driving is about 14mpg and about 18 on the highway. Have not ever gotten anywhere near 20mpg. We got the 3.6 engine
Wow, with those numbers, I would be checking under the hood and at least hoping I forgot that I got the Hemi instead to justify them. My 2019 altitude averages about 18 mpg with mostly in town driving if not out on a long road trip.
@@highoctaneadventure had I known that we definitely would’ve of gotten the 5.7 hemi as this one feels just a tad underpowered. Crazy thing is I used to get better mpg in my 2013 ram with the 5.7. We might just trade it in for a Lexus GX though.
Interestingly, the GC starting from the 2nd generation had been designed on a platform that also allowed for a 3-row version, but never followed through until this current 5th (WL) generation.
Not a fan of every carmaker trying to take their brands upmarket now. Jaguar claims they're going to reboot the brand and prices are going to go way up as a result (allegedly). Carmakers are going to find that there aren't enough rich people to buy enough cars to keep them in business.
They're gonna hate me as a buyer if I decide to buy the JGC. I want it as base as possible with a hitch. Anything above and beyond that is too much of a price commitment. Jeep never was intended to be a luxury brand. Stellantis is in for a big surprise if they're trying to use this as their new business model for Jeep.
I have to think it was designed to fit that mill but not sure why we haven’t yet heard of it transitioning to that from the 5.7 (though I’m not going to complaint about a 5.7 powered vehicle).
It's getting it. Production is shifting from the 5.7 to the 3.0T first in all but fleet vehicles and the Durango/GCL this year. Likely 2025 we will see it as an option, then over time other versions of the 3.0L may replace some mid-level trims with the 3.6L V6.
Durango is unclear. There are rumors that Durango might return as a body on frame relative to the Wagoneer and a smaller 2-row RWD vehicle will take its place, but even rumors are hard to come by.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide if they are smart they would persue both platforms and Make Dodge versions at lower price points minus things like are suspension. My opinion just saying

5th in segment sales. The telluride outsells pilot, Grand Highlander outsold pilot in November, and as I said, independent cross shop data indicates it’s not seen as a competitor to those shopping for the Grand Cherokee
It doesn't bring it back because it didn't go away. 2023 and 2022 model years both offered the V8. In 2024 it's just offered in top trims and they have indicated that 2025 it will likely be replaced by the 3.0L turbo.
Hello Alex, I am wondering how 2023-2024 GCL Summit is different from 2022 GCL Summit I owned. I am surprised that you rate ride quality A+. Personally, I don't like ride quality considering it has an air suspension. I feel it is too firm.
My GCL is Summit trim, not Summit Reserve. And I see it looks exactly the same as Alex test drove in the video. Maybe Jeep has tuned a little softer for 2023-2024 models. Not sure 😕
The whole industry has moved towards firmer suspensions, but the GCL has one of the best rides in the segment. Something like a CX90 or Pilot will be notably firmer than the air suspension equipped Jeeps

Actually looks like 2 year old Grand Cherokee Ls are running 45-47K vs 65,000 MSRP in 2021. Actuary estimates for Highlander show similar depreciation vs actual transaction price. Remember that discounts off MSRP depress ALG and actuary estimates, but vs actual transaction price there's not much difference. Sales and desirability are better predictors of actual resale value and currently BOTH Grand Highlander and GCL are fairly hot right now.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide c’mon, Alex. You can’t tell me with a straight face that the resale value of the GCL is on par with the grand highlander. The cyber truck is different that's for sure. To me, rivian is the better deal. No gauge display in the front is a huge miss and zonk let alone the lack of a HUD.
Choose a Hylander Hybrid AWD over the Grand Cherokee L. Five thousand less, better fuel economy, and Toyota reliability. Loved the Jeep, but not for 60,000.

Don't know why bothering with 3 Row when the goal is luxury and already have a Grand Waggoner. Great query about the 4xE trying to differentiate with the Ford Explorer en route imminently.
I hope I was coherent
Lol
How can the cylinder deactivation be removed?
like it has a v8 , needs a solid rear axel , trail rated trail hawk , no 3rd row ,could be a great off roader car camper , overlander more utilitarion model
Alex have you lost weight? Nice work
Aww, thanks!
Jeep has a good infotainment and plenty of tech features like the passenger screen etc
Interior views and discussion would be more engaging than staring at a plastic cover on the engine with the hood raised.
Americans deserve the Euro-only Jeep Avenger 🚙
Wow, I get those kind of MPG numbers in our Overland L with the 5.7L V8.
Insane new Jeep Grand Cherokee L to own.
Interestingly, the GC starting from the 2nd generation had been designed on a platform that also allowed for a 3-row version, but never followed through until this current 5th (WL) generation.
The Durango shared a platform with the previous WK2 platform.
Commander and Durango (3rd gen) both shared platforms with the Grand Cherokee.
Not a fan of every carmaker trying to take their brands upmarket now. Jaguar claims they're going to reboot the brand and prices are going to go way up as a result (allegedly). Carmakers are going to find that there aren't enough rich people to buy enough cars to keep them in business.
Random observation; Why was the fuse panel cover removed in an engine bay clip early on in the video?
They're gonna hate me as a buyer if I decide to buy the JGC. I want it as base as possible with a hitch. Anything above and beyond that is too much of a price commitment. Jeep never was intended to be a luxury brand. Stellantis is in for a big surprise if they're trying to use this as their new business model for Jeep.
Needs the Hurricane 3.0
I have to think it was designed to fit that mill but not sure why we haven’t yet heard of it transitioning to that from the 5.7 (though I’m not going to complaint about a 5.7 powered vehicle).
It's getting it. Production is shifting from the 5.7 to the 3.0T first in all but fleet vehicles and the Durango/GCL this year. Likely 2025 we will see it as an option, then over time other versions of the 3.0L may replace some mid-level trims with the 3.6L V6.
When are they going to make a Durango on this Platform? Or straight to EV?
Durango is unclear. There are rumors that Durango might return as a body on frame relative to the Wagoneer and a smaller 2-row RWD vehicle will take its place, but even rumors are hard to come by.
@@AAutoBuyersGuide if they are smart they would persue both platforms and Make Dodge versions at lower price points minus things like are suspension. My opinion just saying
Are you sure about the availability of the electronic limited-slip differential? It is a subtraction on every sticker I've seen for a couple of years.
Jeep keeps promising it is coming back, but…
I'd add a new Honda Pilot. Decent off-road performance of their AWD, much reasonable in all parts. In my eyes this is what Gr Ch used to be.
All wheel drive isn't 4 wheel drive, no transfer case for H OR L. Jeep doesn't make all wheel drive they have full time 4H came out on the 1963 Wagner. The pilot isn't going where Jeep goes with AWD . your ok on dirt roads and a little snow but no way big mud holes, ruts and climbing, your going to need 4 L . It all depends on what your doing. My WK2 trail hawk no problem going with the wrangler
I’ll still choose the Lexus with reliability package.
No you wouldn’t and indeed you really shouldn’t 😂
Lexus really can’t hold a single candle to any of its competitors. Only people with absolutely no physical sense would even think about Lexus. People with a brain and eyes would choose any other luxury brand
If you care about reliability don’t buy a luxury car
@@naveenthemachinewhy do you think sales of Lexus and Toyota models are fairly good then?

@@timkincade9763 no video?
Why was the Pilot omitted from any comparisons? Seems odd.
Pilot has fallen to 5th in the segment and independant cross shop data indicates that few Grand Cherokee L shoppers shop Pilot.
Not sure what “fallen to 5th” means. In whose estimation? The mildly refreshed Telluride is included, brand new Grand Highlander, and the Acadia which isn’t even on sale at this point - but you included those. That response seems like deflection to me.
5th in segment sales. The telluride outsells pilot, Grand Highlander outsold pilot in November, and as I said, independent cross shop data indicates it’s not seen as a competitor to those shopping for the Grand Cherokee
@@AAutoBuyersGuide meanwhile on Savagegeese...
Savagegeese doesn’t use cross shop or sales data in their comparisons 🤷♂️
The 2024 model year brings back the 5.7 hemi engine
It doesn't bring it back because it didn't go away. 2023 and 2022 model years both offered the V8. In 2024 it's just offered in top trims and they have indicated that 2025 it will likely be replaced by the 3.0L turbo.
Hello Alex, I am wondering how 2023-2024 GCL Summit is different from 2022 GCL Summit I owned. I am surprised that you rate ride quality A+. Personally, I don't like ride quality considering it has an air suspension. I feel it is too firm.
The Summit Reserve w/ 21s did ride a bit firmer than regular Summit.
I laughed at the GM joke lol…
That was funny ✌️
would like to see you add reliability grade to reviews
Reliability doesn’t matter in a new car as things always keep changing
How do you determine reliability of a newer vehicle?
Jeep gets a bad wrap, but the one’s complaining are usually the 3rd owner, the thing is 12 years old and has 200,000 miles on it… then it has a problem and it’s “junk”
Another thing to consider is people actually off-road their Jeeps, how reliable would anything be when modified with bigger tires and actually used off pavement?
Yea I’m sure Toyota makes a more durable vehicle.. but the trade off is boring, underwhelming, and often outdated vehicles with high financing rates, no discounts and shit availability…
I still have my 1998 XJ I bought as a teenager, it has been neglected and you can’t kill it.
I now have a 2023 full loaded Grand Cherokee L with the hemi and it’s been problem free (1 year old mind you)
Have had Cherokees since 1975 , currently have 2015 Wk2 Laredo and a 2021 WK2 trail hawk along with a 2017 patty riot and 2018 wrangler sahara. I've been jeep cult for 52 years and through many models and never a problem with any of them. From CJs to Wagoner , to XJ to ZJ to WK 1 and 2 , patriot to wrangler JKs not one problem. All my family is jeep cult and not one problem. It's never the people that actually own jeeps It's always a friend or someone else that has had problems because they are full of shit. ONLY IN A JEEP, YES JEEP WROTE THE BOOK ON 4 WHEEL DRIVE ✌️🦆
GC doesn’t justify its price anymore. Makes the GM triplets look like a bargain.
Heck no. Jeep should keep focused if go upscale go upscale don’t flip back and forth. Makes the brand seem unstable
A loaded up grand Cherokee for 80k will be worth the same as a grand highlander base trim for 46k in 1-2 years… 🤷🏻♂️ easy choice
Never mind Toyota’s legendary reputation, just do a quick search of both vehicles and you can see which vehicle has about 50x less inventory than the other, which certainly factors into resale value as well.
@@digital_0630 Toyotas legendary reliability quality are a thing of the past

I think for this amount of cash, people should look into new technology, new generation vehicles. Example new Tesla truck or rivian. It’s like the time when people were transitioning from horses to original Ford model. I would like to ask Alex if he would spend 80k on this or new Tesla truck or rivian
The cyber truck looks cooler though
The cyber truck is different that's for sure. To me, rivian is the better deal. No gauge display in the front is a huge miss and zonk let alone the lack of a HUD.
Well he did have a rivian, and he sold it, he has a few videos on here that explain why.
Pretty sure that doesn't have a 3rd row
Awesome, now if they can just make a four row.
grand wagoneer L add opt 4th row jump seats for large salt lake city families
Does someone force the host to wear those pants?
Choose a Hylander Hybrid AWD over the Grand Cherokee L. Five thousand less, better fuel economy, and Toyota reliability.
Loved the Jeep, but not for 60,000.
The highlander is just subpar compared to any other 3 row. The highlanders overpriced cramped dated nowhere near as nice etc
Not to mention that Toyota quality reliability is a thing of the past
Don't know why bothering with 3 Row when the goal is luxury and already have a Grand Waggoner. Great query about the 4xE trying to differentiate with the Ford Explorer en route imminently. As oil prices start going off a cliff (down) for the first time seemingly forever a diesel option is where Dodge needs to go to compete or even be in the game with Tesla, Rivian and now surging sales of the Ford F150 Lightning. Those being offered up "stoneage ICE Platform pure play" very demanding customer suddenly right now today so pricing will matter. Jeep Grand Cherokee has some horrific quality issues from times past as well sooo..
Stop trying to make Jeep a luxury brand just because the price is ridiculous
