We have the exact same vehicle in white (Summit Reserve) with the V8. Would not buy this vehicle with a six. It was lackluster at best. Coming from a 2021 BMW X7 M50i and 2015 Merc GL550, our 2023 JGC L is phenomenal. Disagree with many of your comments. Versatility is so much better with our family of five and dog. Not so much in the Bimmer or Merc. The button nightmare to get into the third seat of the X7 was what finally caused us to get rid of it. Just give us a manual lever like the Jeep.
Seat Massage in the German cars is in name only. Great in the Jeep. Air Ride is very good and almost on par with our German rides. Love the automatic lowering on exit. This always had to be done manually on our X7 for my 80 year old dad to get in and out.
We have the summit reserve with bench seat. Your comment is in error.
2021 was a first year run which I would never do. Let them work out some of the kinks. We have had zero leakage issues with our panoramic moon roof. That being said it’s no more reliable than our German cars but certainly better than a Range Rover. Jeep warranty coupled with Jeep wave support gives it free oil changes, tire rotations, and bumper to bumper coverage for 3 years.
Night vision is fantastic in PA with all the deer.
I will agree with you on the McIntosh system. I like my music bass heavy yet warmer sound and it is excellent if you like that. Love those big blue meters too! It’s McIntosh’s first REFERENCE system in a vehicle.
Fam cam; tow ability (we tow a 7000 pound boatload with ease) is excellent with the V8; connectivity is better than German counterparts but not as good as our Tesla (using phone App). So much to like about this vehicle.
Honestly for what your criticisms are, you should have gone with a later model Jeep Grand Wagoneer.
As always, YMMV. Thanks for posting.

Hi James. Sorry to hear the unfortunate issues you had with your 2021 Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the Summit Reserve trim and sorry you had to get rid of it. As for the heads up display, it can be adjusted to where you want it. In general, leather seats regardless of which vehicle branding it is will eventually get rubbings from jeans. I have leather cleaner/conditioner wipes for my vehicle. Once a month i eipes the driver's seat since its the most occupied. The other seats for the vehicle would get wiped either twice or three times annually. I have the same Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the Summit Reserve trim. Same interior color. Only differences are mine is the 2023 model year, mine has a different exterior color which is Diamond Black Crystal Pearl and more importantly mine has the 5.7 liter HEMI V8 engine. Before I bought the vehicle i test drove it three times. Twice in the summer of 2021 with the Limited trim and the Overland trim. Both had the Pentastar V6 engine. My third test drive was in February of 2022 also in the Overland trim, but this time with the V8 engine. I'm on agreeable terms with you that the Pentastar V6 engine is underpowering. It is. At the time when I did the test drives, my daily driver vehicle which I still have is a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.7 liter V8 engine. It's a secondary vehicle now. Performance numbers with thst engine is 235 horsepower along with 305 pound feet of torque. Even though the Pentastar V6 engine was a replacement for the 4.7 liter V8 and 3.7 liter V6, it doesn't have good performance compared to the 4.7 liter V8 engine. The Pentastar definitely was a good replacement for the 3.7 V6 engine, but from my view not a replacement for the 4.7 liter V8. The Pentastar V6 has 293 horsepower which is good and is more than the 235 horsepower from the 4.7 liter V8, but where the Pentastar V6 lacked was the pound feet of torque. At 257 fir the torque thats not good enough. One time I raced someone who had a fourth generation Jeep Grand Cherokee with the Pentastar V6. At the time my third generation Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 4.7 liter V8 was still able to beat it despite having less horsepower. The pound feet of torque allowed me to beat him at the time. Fast forward to now, what Jeep should've done with the Pentastar V6 would be to increase the pound feet of torque numbers. At the moment the torque stands at 257. That's not enough for a third row seating mid-size SUV. When they came out with the Jeep Grand Cherokee L back in 2021 as the 2021 model year, they should've increased the torque to at least 270 or 275. If they had done that things would've been different now. Maybe during a mid-cycle refresh of the Jeep Grand Cherokee L, they might increase the torque numbers a little bit. It was this past year 2023 I got my 2023 Jeep Grand Cherokee L in the Summit Reserve trim. How I got mine in that trim level and with the HEMI V8 engine was via dealership transfer. My local dealership didn't have what I was looking for. At the time I didn't put a down payment until they said they found one with the V8 engine. When they found one with the HEMI V8 engine and the other dealership agreed to do a transfer, that was when I proceeded with my down payment. There's a very noticeable night and day difference between the 5.7 liter HEMI V8 and the 3.6 liter Pentastar V6. When this fifth generation got released in 2021 as the 2021 model year, I knew not to get the first year of a new generation vehicle. In general, regardless of vehicle branding the first year of a new generation vehicle in some cases come with some bugs. Another reason I said let me wait is in terms of standard features or optional features. If a feature or features was optional in the first year of the new generation, more than likely that feature or features are not optional for the second or third year of the new generation. Those features would be standard that time. That's the scenario with any vehicle no matter which make it is. As for the Jeep Grand Cherokee L the 2021 model year on the Summit Reserve trim didn't have a front passenger infotainment screen and and didn't have an HDMI port. However, the 2022, 2023 and 2024 came with those two. Those two features are optional on the 2022 model year, but standard for 2023 and the current 2024 model years. Unfortunately, due to new emission guidelines that got outlined politically at the Federal level, state and local levels, big engines are getting discontinued. Unfortunately, after this year comes to a close Chrysler/ Stellantis will no longer make V8 engines. The 6.4 liter V8 and 5.7 liter V8 will get replaced with a standard output as well as high output twin turbo inline 6 Hurricane engines. Those two engines have more horsepower than the two V8 engines they will replace. Unfortunately, what everybody will miss is the V8 rumble growling sound. That sound is MIA on the two Hurricane engines. Eventually, the Jeep Grand Cherokee L will get a version of the Hurricane engine, but will be different from the Hurricane engine the bigger luxury brother Grand Wagoneer has. Grand Wagoneer high output Hurricane engine comes with 500 horsepower. That same engine for the Grand Cherokee L will get detuned for sure. Maybe to between 420 to 430 horsepower. Let's see what happens when the time comes.

I'm confused. You bought this SUV expecting Lexus Benz quality? You wanted power but got the little V6 when they offered a V8? It sounds like you did not do enough research. Jeep has a very bad reputation for poor reliability, so I don't understand why you bought it expecting quality.

    • @OctaneObsessed

I bought it expecting for it to be worth what I paid. Long story short, that wasn’t the case. Although they had the v8 as an option, when I bought this, they weren’t equipping them with it. I got lucky because when I bought this, they also weren’t shipping them with air suspension because of the parts constraints. I wasn’t expecting Lexus or Benz quality but I wasn’t expecting it to be such poor quality hence why I won’t buy another FCA vehicle.

Just got back from a weekend road trip with this car with over 20 hours of driving. It was super comfortable and quiet. I have a 2022 summit reserve with bench seat and 5.7 Hemi. I could not imagine this car with the V6. I also would never have bought a first year run. The quality is great. Any minor fit and finish issues were fixed. The new factory built just for this car shows how important the Grand Cherokee is to Jeep and really the only Jeep or Stellantis product I’d ever buy. I looked at a Land Rover and it was much more expensive for the same level of options with the same or worse level of quality and reliability and a much higher cost to deal with repairs.

No issues with the panoramic sunroof so far. The 6 cylinder engine is really good. I get around 23 mpg mixed driving. The air suspension is great as is the McIntosh stereo system. I met a guy who has an F150 with a large sunroof. He said he never used until one day wanted to open it just to see it work. It cracked as soon as he opened. Exterior color for mine is the Diamond Black Crystal Pearl color. Initially I wanted the Midnight Sky Blue color, but my local dealership and neighboring dealerships didn't have that color or the color was available, but ones with the V6 engine had it. Eventually I'll take it to my local dealership and have them paint it in the Midnight Sky Blue color I wanted right outta the gate. When the time comes only the roof, rear spoiler and the Teo A pillars will remain black. The rest of the vehicle will be Midnight Sky Blue to have that two tone look. I have a 2021 JGC 80th anniversary. I like it, I don't "love" it right now because I just had to replace the evaporator core at 40K miles. Luckily Stellantis covered all of the cost except for $274. This was a $2500 repair. Other than that no issues it feels solid, powerful, and drives nice. I also like the Jeep courtesy when out on the road, Jeep owners will know what this means. This is my second JGC (previously had a 2018) and got a ~$3K loyalty discount so I am tempted to buy a 2025 later in the spring. Still contemplating this. Note to auto makers: I will never buy a 4 cylinder hybrid, turbo, no turbo, 4 cylinder PERIOD. I'll be looking at the Chevy Blazer RS which has the 3.6L V6 engine and 308HP. It looks great so I need to test drive it first.

Funny, I was thinking about a Jeep Summit ... I have a Range Rover and although I agree that there are no major mechanical issues, there are tons of electrical and/or software issues. The car is about 3 years old now (Feb 2021) and I still have several of the same software issues that I had when it was new. The radio turns on by itself a lot. It seems to turn itself off much less though. I have had to take it in to the dealer to do routine software updates when it's supposed to happen automatically. The main and center console blank out every so often and the center console alone blanks out too. The camera system is not very good - especially in the front, although it's cool that different speakers will beep depending what corner is coming too close to an impact. Various warning lights randomly come on, and stay lit for a while, and then go out - and the dealer has yet to find any codes. The doors often do not lock and/or alarm using the exterior handle and the rear hatch sometimes won't open by the button. The battery often says it needs charging and the dealer can't find anything wrong there either - even when the warning is on. The cruise control sometimes won't set and sometimes won't bump up or down to fine tune the speed. The proximity sensors in the rear are too sensitive because about 20% of the time, the rear will start warning of impact from the car behind when there is 3-4' or more between. Then there is the famous rattle somewhere in the driver's side dash area. It comes and goes, and to the best of my knowledge, no one has been able to isolate the problem. One time the thing rattled 40+ miles to the dealer and then when turning in to the service bay, it stopped! Anyway, if you decide to get a RR, good luck! I think I'm going back to an X5 ...

As an owner of a 2004 EU-spec Grand Cherokee with the 2.7L Mercedes diesel (only 161 HP, but enough torque) engine, it makes me sad to see how Jeep has gone down and down in quality over the last 2 decades... It does have to be said, it was known right from the start that the WJs built in Austria had much better build quality, and the Mercedes drive train is bulletproof to this day, but still... Dual zone climate works perfectly to this day, super cold or super hot when you need it and my 20 year old sunroof works perfectly with some regular-ish cleaning of the drains. The WJ is very simple, but super capable and reliable. One thing on the driving feel - mine is super floaty as well, due to the factory Overland suspension, but that has always been a characteristic of the Grand Cherokees in general, just like the Wranglers. Even though it is a unibody chassis and not a ladder frame construction, it still behaves like a truck.
Anyway, they don't build them how they used to, huh?
Also, seriously, never buy a first-year car, from ANY brand, even the super-reliable Japanese brands. You're just flipping a coin if you do.

My wife has had two Toyotas with sunroofs that have never leaked and I’ve owned two Mitsubishi cars with sunroofs and they’ve never leaked. Stellantis is cutting corners and taxing its customers. They deserve whatever failure is coming their way.

I had lumar ceramic 5% on the front driver and passenger windows, 15% on all the rears since they come with factory shaded glass, and 50% on the windshield. (I have a tint wavier for dark tint)

One cure for the sunroof. Invest in a garage. If you have $70,000 cars you should have one!

I actually have 3 garages but that doesn’t stop the constant rain in Florida.

If you're going to drive a fancy looking big pile of 💩 go buy a Range Rover.. at least then people will think you're well off. The last thing anyone is thinking is "wow they have money" seeing someone in a Jeep Grand Cherokee anything, give me a break lol.
Jeep is not a luxury brand, at all.. they make mediocre vehicles, some of which are great offroad, and basically terrible at everything else. Grand Cherokee makes sense under 50k... anything more than that, you deserve to be taken like this guy was 😂 maybe buy a Lexus GX550 if you want something that has quality and isnt going to fall apart in 5 years

This is why I would never buy an American Car. I have never had issues with my last few Mercedes or Audi vehicles.
