Do you need a paticular kind of lic? Or a normal drivers lic will work for when you get pulled over i have a class D international drivers license. Do i need to obtain a motorcycle endorsement as well? Seeing diffrent things online. Thanks!!
To drive and ride legally in Thailand, you need an international driver's license, a driver's license from your home country with a motorcycle endorsement, and your passport. However, I've been stopped at police checkpoints several times and only had to show my international driver's license. They never asked to see my passport or U.S. driver's license.
You're welcome. There are many good places to buy helmets. There's one on South Pattaya Road that I've been to a few times. I can't remember the name, though.
Follow the other motorbikes, that's what I do in every country I travel to until I'm confident I have things figured out. Also, having a Thai passenger (GF) is helpful.
Lol, I understand what you mean. I've had passengers that seemed to know less than me about the laws. I was confused about the laws for the first few months riding in Thailand because I would see Thai people ignoring traffic laws/rules. Ultimately that's what I love about riding in Thailand. Laws seem to be optional, Lol. My Thai GF suggested I make a video explaining the traffic laws and what to watch out for. The Expressway and some sections of the motorways are the only roads motorbikes can't enter. The on-ramps have signs showing motorbikes are not allowed. I believe the Expressway is strictly enforced, but I sometimes see Thai guys riding on the restricted motorway. The Expressway is easy to see because it's fenced in, but the restricted motorway, like the one in Pattaya running underground, caught me a few times when I wasn't paying attention.
Aerox vs the Click 125i. The day rate for both is correct, but it does appear I put the wrong monthly rate for the Click 125i. You can usually find a Click 125i to rent for ฿3,000 ($88) per month.
I use Nomad Insurance. I'm healthy so right now I only need insurance that covers accidents and sudden illness. I pay $74/month and it covers me in every country I travel to. safetywing.com/nomad-insurance/profile
No, you only need an international driver's license and your native country's Driver's license. I have the motorcycle endorsement on my US license, but nobody ever seems to check that outside the US. The international license is the first thing they want to see when pulled over. Every time I've been stopped in Thailand, it was always at checkpoints making sure foreigners have their licenses. international-license.com/pages/apply-now
Any of the helmet shops have them. They are easy to find everywhere. Since I made this video, I have found better-quality helmets at select locations. The best helmets that I currently own were $65 each, one purchased in Udon Thani and the other in Pattaya.
Yes, legally you need an international driver license. However, I did travel international and rented motorbikes and cars for a few years before I finally relized I needed an international license. Fortunately I was never stopped by the police and checked during the time I didn't have one. Now that I have an international driver license I get stopped more often, coincidence.
Yes, it is safe. I've never had any issues renting from Mr. Deen Big Bike. In fact, I've rented from many places in Thailand and have never been scammed. However, I always take a video and pictures of the motorbike if I'm renting from a new place.
very expensive for my budget, I heard a residence owner said he rent them from 1400 baht / month, smaller ones (th-cam.com/video/rYt6esgreJw/w-d-xo.html) in the darkside, why is this so expensive? thx for the info on the license and everything, helpful!
You're welcome. 🙏🏼 It's easy to find cheaper, older, and smaller scooters to rent. Especially if you visit rental places further from the beach. Their selection of scooters is usually very limited and they only have small cc motorbikes. The rent price goes up as the purchase price goes up. 110 - 125cc scooters are cheap to buy, especially used. It's been my experience the more expensive rent places have a better selection to choose from that are newer and well maintained. Cheap places usually have poorly maintained equipment that is old. Bad brakes, bad tires, and blown out fork seals are the most common problems I've ran into when renting cheap. However, I have found good and cheap, but it takes effort to find those deals.
Thanks brother great video! Pat here from Québec Canada! Looking to go to tailand for 90 days this winter
Thanks, Pat! Perfect place to spend winter. My Canadian friends from Toronto, Canada were here in February for over 2 weeks.

They really should move the bike rentals off of beach road due to congestion.
That would be nice. The road and side walk are too busy right there.
Some great nuggets of advice. Thanks Jake.

Hi Jake,
Can we ride it all over thailand ?
Hello, and yes. You can ride all over Thailand if renting 300cc and up. Deen expects the 150cc and smaller to be used locally.
hmm aerox bigger cost 140$ for months and smaller 168$, did you put prices correct ??????
