Buying A Motorbike In Thailand As a Foreigner

  • The time has come to buy my own motorcycle in Chiang Mai Thailand. After 2 and a half years riding a bicycle, I really needed to get that motorbike to move forward with my Thailand journey. Chiang Mai has many used motorcycle shops and markets around the city, with Ruamchok used motorcycle market being one of the most popular and biggest, with many motorbikes for sale. I wanted to stay with a Honda Click but I was also interested in the Yamaha Aerox. I had my money ready and was looking at buying it today! Did I purchase a bike?

    Two points of caution re buying bikes - the kilometres are routinely wound back at dealers and a lot of the people selling bikes at Ruamchok are actually dealers. Also, it is far more difficult to sell a bike then buy one in Thailand. However, you are still better of owning one both financially and for your safety.

    • @WalkAboutWayne
      @WalkAboutWayne  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      That's right Thomas, alot of dealers here do put the mileage back, i've heard some storys about Ruamchok. Some good dealers there also though. I was lucky with my bike i think. Thanks.

      @@adv67 They are a bike devoid of character, so if you don't mind never falling in love with them they would easily handle the job for one rider. It would be too small for 2 people.

    Wayne. How does insurance work? Anyway, now I won't have to rent. I can use it for my drunken soapy binges. Right? Also, I know you are a safe driver. But just reminding folks to look both ways at all intersections. There have been some terrible red light running crashes here in Nevada recently. A whole family of seven was wiped out by a drunk in Las Vegas. So not just Thailand. But great you got the bike.

    • @WalkAboutWayne

      When you transfer ownership of the bike, they make you pay for Tax and Insurance. The insurance they give you doesn't cover much, but at least it's insurance.
