Thanks dude!! Great tips!!
Great video, if I could offer a few more tips :
- get your international drivers permit from your home country prior to arriving , when pulled over that’s all they will look at and if you don’t have one you will be fined
- if renting long term for a month as an example , ask if you can leave the deposit in your home countries currency ( that way you don’t have to bring 5000 baht home with you, or lose money on the exchange and have to deal with getting a ride to the exchange booth on top of it )
- keep your line ( when driving along don’t drift to the right or the left, or make any unnecessary quick movements to either side ) because believe me .. scooters will come flying up from behind and pass you within inches on your left and right so quick ya don’t even see them coming
- wear eye protection ( sunglasses ) I’ve been riding for over 50 years and got hit in the eye by a large bug when I was much younger while not wearing any and almost lost my eye , it amazes me how many people ride there without them, especially family’s with little kids
Some great advice there, especially eye protection which I always wear
Brilliant video man
very helpful I’m over Thailand in November so will keep these tips in mind
Thanks Jack, much appreciated
Going to be there on November 6 to the 22nd!
I agree about renting small bike such as Honda Click 125. Obvious reason is easy to maneuver, automatic, easy on petrol. Just fill in 100 baht can last the whole day.
Correct :)
Good advice....
Good video mate
Thanks G
Good Video bro keep it up. Helpful for me as I arrive next month. Do you have any aspirations of every owning anything in Thailand such as property/business. Would be intrested to know your take on the rules and regs.
Yes I would like to. I’ll make a video on it.
hi..from where we can book a rented bike?any suggestion?
Do they have insurance that can be purchased?
I am coming to Samui on the 16th March 24, I am then going to the mainland by ferry for about 7 to 10 days doing a bike tour, then coming back to Samui, I need a bigger bike with luggage and one that allows me to take it off the island, do you know any? I have a full licence to ride any bike and international. Thanks
What kind of license do you need?
Do you even need a license for something that's a 50cc moped?
Can I use a provisional license
Great video bro, that was a sick bike and got a lot of value🧠
Thanks mate
@@darioquacquarellihi. Is your Honda click 125 sufficient to ride around 250 km. Planning to ride from Bangkok to Hua Hin. Will have pillion too.
Looked pretty good to me. Tsk
I only ever rented a bike two times on koh lanta. Both times from the same hotel I was staying . They kept my passport which I didn't feel super great about
Never ever hand over your passport... If anyone asks to keep your passport as deposit, walk away
@@jamespaterson9801 I did it many times , never had an issue with anyone
I’m struggling to find answers for this, obviously in the UK you can ride scooters on a provisional license, is this the case in Thailand too? Are you able to get an international license with it or no?
Apply international licence in UK or if you cannot, you can apply to learn with riding school in Thailand and when done the school will guide you to obtain international licence in Thailand the next day. Quite easy.
@@kamolhengkiatisak1527 thanks! Would I not need to be a Thai national to do driving school though?
Good video ..can u please tell me where to rent a scooter in Phuket so that I won’t get scammed
Sorry, don't have experience renting in Phuket.
It's awful advice, don't listen to him. His advice is putting you in peril
do you need bike driving licence to rent a bike?
Legally yes you do, a full motor bike licence and an international driving permit Any insurance you have will be invalidated including your travel insurance, should you have an accident..
What about license? Do they require a motorcycle license? What’s the fine for not having one?
you need to purchase an international driving permit from your countries driving agency. they are below $10. if you are coming to Chiang Mai, the Police set up check points and stop tourists and fine them. much cheaper and easier to sort before coming. if youre going to the islands, they rarely check but Chiang Mai as i say, they do check. The bike rental shop will not check for license or insurance but you should check your medical insurance covers you incase of accident :)
ofc you need a freaking license, how many people got their vacation ruined because of idiots like you who want to rent a bike without even knowing basic traffic rules
You need a motorcycle license in your country of origin AND a international permit
His ‘FULL GUIDE’ doesn’t tell you that your need a full bike licence, if you have NOT passed your test on a big bike you can only drive up to 50CC in the UK on L plates therefore you should only rent up to 50CC in Thailand, but there are NO 50CC scooters in Thailand, you will be allowed to rent a scooter with your uk licence and or international licence, the problem comes if you have serious accident that you need hospital treatment or worse someone dies, you will not even have the 3rd party insurance they use as standard
That's wrong. The L licence in UK is limited to 125CC, not 50CC. There is no bike sale at 50CC in UK anymore. Even if I am Thai, I have watched so many UK youtubers about L licence limit at 125CC.
@@kamolhengkiatisak1527 yes thank you, I stand corrected on the 50cc, thst was back many years, now 125cc but have to do CBT test
‘To ride on public roads you first need to get a provisional licence and then complete compulsory basic training (CBT) to get a certificate’
Well said. I think the lowest cc bike in thailand is 100 cc. Don't think there are very few 50cc bikes
Feel free to make your own comprehensive guide if you feel mine isn't detailed enough buddy
Your advice is irresponsible buddy. You haven't mentioned that you need a full motorbike licence and an international driving permit to legally ride motorbike in thailand if you don't have these any insurance including travel insurance will be invalid should you have an accident wether its your fault or not.. Your video very irresponsible and misleading..
You sound like a lot of fun James, lighten up. Everyone rides without licence's here, on your head be it if you want to ride without insurance.
Its irrelevant if everyone rides without a valid license , give responsible advice buddy. It isn't difficult. By doing so it just might keep people safe and not financially out of pocket should they have an accident. Ive seen irresponsible people like yourself ruined financially for not having valid insurance because they don't have a full motorbike licence, which makes all insurance invalid.. Should they have a serious accident. Hospital bills, damage to the bike and damages to any third party involved. Bills running into 10s of thousands of pounds.. Just give responsible advice or don't give any.
@@jamespaterson9801 You can't ruin me financially buddy
@@darioquacquarelli i never said i can ruin you financially, i said the irresponsible advice you are giving people could potentially ruin them financially.. Just give sound advice ir don't give it at all...
