The Sansibar dates back to the latter years of the Spanish occupation of the Philippines. It is sometimes called a san sibak! which means one chop! in Filipino dialects. Over time the name phrase has been anglicized into Sansibar. Then, as now, the Sansibar-style blades are used by rivermen who bamboo for boat making. These well-traveled Filipinos spread the Sansibar throughout the islands, making it a widespread and widely modified blade design.

Sansibar are among the fastest swords in Philippine Martial Arts. Traditional ones are a bit thicker and quite often chisel-ground. I have a traditional one on the way to me. But I love the TFW Sansibar. I think in terms of balance it acts closest to the rattan sticks we use in arnis, and it's more versatile than most single edged Filipino blades. Nice flow as well Tom!

Yeah the one Tatang Illustrisimo used in WWII was longer and heavier version than this one. Thank you ! thanks for checking out the video.

Nice review, thank you. Just one correction...each TFW blade is made from steel blends of 5160 and D2. Thats unique to TFW right now actually. Its a nice alloy that makes the edge last a bit longer than usual...hence the reason why its used. :)

Traditionally, those do not have a back edge. i have seen the original rusty old ones. Thats the exact replica. ;)

Love that scabbard. Filipino blades are my second favorite after Japanese.

I personally think he's good at reviewing, describing and selling swords. I see alot of criticism in the comment sections of your videos for petty things, and honestly if you add in more bullshido martial arts type stuff, it's just going to be cheesy. He's realistic in his take on things, including martial arts with weapons.

Very nice sword I have had my eye on that blade for some time. Could you do a review of the blade the Filipino Marines use I think it is spelled "GINITING"?

Ginunting is translated to ''half scissors'' yeah we may be able to do that one. There's other ones out there already too.

I assume the scabbard will require the same light oil coating the other TFW weapon scabbards require? (For the same reason you gave in reference to the handle.)

Outlast The Dark yeah a light Hanwei oil or wood oil will do just fine, you can just wipe it on a rag and that'll do just fine.

Bisaya sword of the Waray. The original native name is Sansibak. Literally 'one slash'. The philosophy of killing your enemy in one slash, otherwise you'll both end dead. That's the sword that is the reason and the means of the infamous Balangiga Massacre. Long story short, the American occupation foces (1900's) order the natives to surrender ther Sansibak. A big insult. The native Waray put their Sansibak inside coffins, dress as women and pretend to have a funeral procession. When they reach town, the massacre begun. It was the biggest American loss of life after the Battle of Big horn. The American response was to kill anybody with balls. The Church Bells (bells have balls) were taken as military booty and were return only on Dec 2018.
