    I typically shy away from "mall ninja" looking things like these but this actually looks pretty nice. I could see people buying this (myself included) as part of a "shtf" system 😁

      Same tbh. I've always thought even having just one "tactical" sword just for the funsies would be cool and this line seems actually p solid

    I had an opportunity to visit the Elgin shop before they moved. I went on a shopping spree a few times before I stopped working in that area.
    Really looking at the APOC line of swords, I have a tough choice on which one to choose. The cutlass is often overlooked by me, so I have to give it a second look.

    Thank you for reviewing this! I've been looking at it for a while now, and despite the lack of a true cutlass styled guard, I really love the simple design! I love cutlass and I definitely plan on picking one of these tactical pieces up so I dont have to beat up my windlass one too much, haha. I have a cold steel cutlass machete but the blade seems somewhat cheap and lacks the nice geometry this piece seems to have.

    Awesome video. I'd love to see one on the larger Katana version. Also the close up panning while it was in Tom's hands was really well done.

    Definitely inspired by British military blade designs, with an offset fuller running down the strong, transitioning into a diamond cross section as it reaches the foible. We see this very specialized design present in various pattern infantry officers sabre.

    I recently purchased this sword and I'm gonna give my honest opinion no bs when I recieved mine the edge was so rough it would actually saw wood the burring was absolutely terrible I did however polish it out so keep in mind one is going to have to spend a significant amount of time to get the edge decent then I noticed that the fuller is very unevenly done and many inconsistencies in bevels when it was machined keep in mind guys I been a machinist for almost a 2 decades the blade itself came straight no warping now let's talk about the handle scales they look like they were put on the sword then shaped I could be wrong but my handle scales where they meet the tang look as if an angle grinder was used to finish them and match them to the shape of the tang and I mean it looks like I let my 12 year old do it so I stripped the blade fixed all the sloppy shotty work gave it a high polish now I am in the process of getting handle scale material so I can make new scales now let's talk about handle design and anyone who has ever had experience using swords could Pick this thing up and take one swing and know the design of the handle is complete shit this blade is heavy for its size and the handle scales are smooth and want slide out of your hand very easily when slashing this is why many blades of this type came with D guards and basket hilts as well as middle eastern variants had a wider swell toward the butt of the handle so that your hand rests in the swell allowing you to have more control and the handle itself stays locked in your grip the person who designed it did have a swell at the end of the handle but it was not enough and honesty the handle itself looks like something your wife keeps in her night stand drawer for when you are not around the same concept that was used on the yatagan should have been applied to this model as well keep in mind I'm not saying this product is a bad one for 150$ its tolerable but it will require many hours of detailed labor to make it what it should have been and honestly if you have the time why not if you do not just spend the money to get something that will not require 48 hours of labor to fix all the quality control issues I also purchased the yatagan for my son his blade came sharp and had a fantastic finish on the blade no uneven grind marks but the handle same issue looked like a 12 year old shaped it with a angle grinder and honestly we will likely buy another I'm not saying these are bad swords but I am saying they are 100% beyond a shadow of a doubt a project sword and I have an obsession with customizing everything so it worked out for me I was happy that my blade was straight and had a good flex that returned true the steel also will sharpen to razor sharp if these guys had better quality control and focused a little more on fit and finish they could ask 250$ for a sword like this and get it all day

    Where I live there is incredibly dense Woods that I plan to clear out and my current machete which is the Kershaw it's just too damn heavy for extended use. I could see this being a great replacement.

    • @JohnFrumFromAmerica
      @JohnFrumFromAmerica 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have one. It won't cut as well as a machete. There is a reason people don't use swords for brush cutting

    • @JohnFrumFromAmerica
      @JohnFrumFromAmerica 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Ashriff I doubt it would be good for jungle survival. It is heaver than a typical machete and the edge is thicker meaning it won't cut as efficiently. It's primary a weapon that could cut plants if needed. It is very durable and we'll made but I don't think it's a great tool to replace a well made machete.

    When i think cutlass. It usually has a D-handguard. But, overall, it looks like a decent Saber. The company should make a short sword/short-saber version. It would look like those rare 19th century Metropolitan Police short swords /short hanger /saber-like..

    I have this in the APOC katana. Dull as a butter knife. It's cool but you're going to have to sharpen it. Also the black coating is garbage you better oil it if
    You want to avoid corrosion. It's a plastic sheath.

  • @9unslin9er
    @9unslin9er 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I bought one from another retailer and it was dull as a butter knife with a terrible grind. The sharpening service is mandatory. Also don't know why Gus Trim keeps designing such garbage. The balance is bad on this, and worse on the katana. It needs a narrower/shorter tang.
