I've got a placer claim on a hydraulically mined site below a lode mine. There's rust and iron junk everywhere so I stopped digging ferrous indicated targets that don't sound VERY sharp and dense. I still mostly dredge because it's too mafic/mineralized for my GM 1000 and it's small gold. Dredge to bedrock then detect until every chirp is sucked up, only way I have success.

4500 or 5000 if you are on a budget. The SDC 2300 is also a bloody good machine. I hope that helps.?
