    If it leaks try Lucas or STP in the steering box works great. and usually does not leak. the seals usually leak after you drive it and steer with some stress. but the thick STP is slippery and super thick so it doesn't fall out the hole.

Additionally to all that stuff you do (full time job, supermomma, restoring, artwork, camping etc.p.p.) you do ultra marathons? Good grief, I'm definitely extremely impressed and pretty intimidated.

    Nice Job Marci, I recommend to change the shaft Output seal. They leaking very often, this is the reason why the gearbox was dry. Drill carefully 2 longer screws (for use in wood, spax e.g.) in the rubber and pull the seal out. New seals are available and cheap. If there is leaking later on the bus, you have to pull the linkage lever again. Nice to see the progress on your project.

    Those lock washers on the steering column adjustments I was always told those are called "French locks" by my old man from Michigan. You see them on a lot of GM based exhaust manifolds. However I doubt the Germans would call them that. looks like a big steel rivet with threads going threw the middle. Maybe do a mold on the old horn? I am sure you will tinker your way to the right solution.

    • @marcijunebug
      @marcijunebug  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I too have heard the term French lock...I think VW just calls them "lock tabs" real original, but that is what they are called on the reduction boxes assume they are same here...I will figure something out for the horn...it's the process I enjoy, but you already know that! ha

    • @SkaterStimm
      @SkaterStimm 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You need to be careful with using stuff like vinegar since it can strip away any coatings that are there and cause the metal to rust faster after it has been treated. Time, oil and heat adds a natural blueing to the metal, and the vinegar can remove that. However for parts you are going to paint, it is a good idea.
