  • George and Judy viewers from Houston Texas brought me a guitar that George picked out when he was 16 years old. His father bought it for him. He said I was the first one to lay my hands on it.

    Jerry: From Tom of REGAL WRECK (Ref RSW 161) About 5 years and 410 videos ago I saw you use the Bridge Hole Drill Jig I had made to help you wth the GREAT repair you made on my Father's Regal guitar. I believe I saw it again in this video. If that Drill Jig has been of use to you in other repairs, that would bring me great pleasure. Recall that I had originally thought about fixing the Regal Wreck myself but came to my senses and sent it to you. Next to selection of my wonderful wife, that was one of the best decisions of my life. I believe I made that Drill Jig to help me with the repair but sent it to you to help you. I believe I have watched most, if not all, of your videos. You are truly an artist. For those who have not viewed Jerry's repair of my Father's Regal guitar, please check out REGAL WRECK (RSW 160 and 161) for , I believe, these are one of his greatest and most enjoyable guitar repairs. I still play the Regal Wreck often and it is great. Thanks for the great videos and the joy you have provided to me wth the repair of the Regal Wreck and all your great videos. Sincerely, Tom

    i'm happy jerry was able to retire and enjoy himself, but also quite bummed for selfish reasons. i've got a high(er) end yamaha that's in need of a neck reset. i love it very much and dread finding someone who is both willing and competent enough to do a good job.

    Re the word "Perfect". It is a very subjective word. One person's perfect can be another's "sloppy". The operative part of Jerry's comment "It's perfect for me" is NOT the word Perfect, but "FOR ME".
    I can watch and enjoy Ben Crowe or Ted Woodford or any of the other Luthiers on TH-cam build or repair a guitar with the utmost accuracy. Measuring, filing, crowning and polishing individual frets with multiple tools, painstakingly making sure that every part of the guitar is exactly parallel, symmetrical and so on. The end product is a guitar that looks, plays and sounds as good as it possibly can be.
    Then I can get exactly the same enjoyment from watching Jerry tear the neck & back off a 60 year old guitar, repair or replace anything that is broken, put it back together, fix any issues with the neck, stick that back on then do a full setup "BY EYE", then sort out the finish. What he is left with is ALSO a guitar that looks, plays and sounds as good as it possibly can be!
    Both these things are "PERFECT"Ñ
    As Jerry said (to paraphrase) "If you don't like it, you know where the door is.... Don't let it hit you on the a**e on the way out"!!

    When I worked on the Apollo Command Module if you said that what you had worked on was good enough you would get a dressing down. Perfection was expected. Perfection was meeting or exceeding the specifications as measured with instruments. Jerry you are artist both in music and craftsmanship neither can be calculated or measured with a set of calipers. you measure with your knowledge, skills and hearing. if you say it's perfection I have to agree with you.

    Getting rid of that tone assassin height adjustable bridge really woke this old guitar up. I don’t know why so many of the manufacturers fell in love with those things. Martin never used them but most everyone else flirted with them, some up into the early 70s.

      Plastic bridges, plastic saddles, screwed and bolted bridges, plywood bridge plates........
      Gibson has been through (actually originated) every bad idea, in lutherie.
      You would think they were owned by AMF.

    • @edwardfestor8726
      @edwardfestor8726 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@zapa1pnt Yeah, they did some things worthy of Harmony at that time. Almost every guitar maker was bought by a big corporation that knew nothing about making guitars. Gibson by Norlin, Gretsch by Baldwin, Fender by CBS. AMF didn’t wreck a guitar company, as they were too busy wrecking Harley-Davidson. Martin was in family hands, but had other problems…..
