GBO2 Penelope: Infinite thrust while flying!

- This video contains two matches I had with the recently released Penelope on Gundam Battle Operation 2. It is a 700 cost raid with access to a time limited flight mode with infinite thrust, great midrange DPS, amazing overall stagger ability, very high durability alongside having funnel missiles which have outstanding tracking. It has many drawbacks however, such as only being able to fly for 30 seconds at any given time, its flight skill being on a 40 seconds long cooldown, it having just 225 boosting speed alongside it having somewhat short range. I absolutely adore this suit, it feels so fun to play. At the same time though, I am disappointed by how they chose to implement its flight skill, most of the time you are forced to fight on the ground while waiting to use your flight skill again. Its primary weapon is a beam rifle with 2900 power, 6 ammo, 5 seconds cooldown, 15 seconds reload, 0.77 seconds swap time, 350m range and 20% stagger value. This is a pretty standard instant stun rifle, albeit with high performance. It is a good opener for your other weapons.
Its primary melee weapon is a dual wield beam saber with 3200 power, 2.5 seconds cooldown, 0.5 seconds swap time, 60% combo modifier and 140% downswing modifier. The downswing on this has good horizontal reach, it can do pretty good damage against supports.
Its second sub weapon is a shoulder beam cannon with 1500x2 power, 80% heat, 3.5 seconds cooldown, 22 seconds overheat, 0.5 seconds swap time, 400m range and 20%x2 stagger value. This stops to fire, but instant staggers and deals good damage.
Its third sub weapon is a set of funnel missiles with 400x8 power, 8 ammo, 13 seconds reload, 0.5 seconds swap time, 300m range and 15%x8 stagger value. These need to lock on before firing, once launched they home in on the enemy. These are nearly impossible to dodge out in the open, so its basically a fully reliable stun option. They can also be used while boosting.
Its fourth sub weapon is an arm missile launcher with 400x2 power, 16 ammo, 350 RPM, 15 seconds reload, 0.5 seconds swap time, 300m range and 10%x2 stagger value. These don't stagger very well, but have very high DPS.
Its fifth sub weapon is an arm beam cannon with 3000 power, 100% heat, 15 seconds overheat, 0.5 seconds swap time, 250m range and 5 seconds focus time. This has short range and must focus before firing, but it inflicts heavy stagger.
Its sixth sub weapon is a vulcan gun with 130 power, 30 ammo, 720 RPM, 9 seconds reload, 0.5 seconds swap time, 200m range, 1560 DPS and 5% stagger value. These can stagger in about 1.6 seconds.
The Penelope has 28000 HP, 32 ballistic resist, 28 beam resist and 32 melee resist. This is pretty great durability, but it is even better once you consider that it has a 35% damage reduction legs buffer, a 30% reduction shoulder buffer alongside a 15% reduction chest buffer. It has LV3 Emergency Evasion and LV1 High Maneuver Armor for defensive skills. High MA reduces damage taken by 50%, reduces stun accumulation taken by 40% and nullifies all instant staggers except for downswings and tackles.
In terms of mobility it has 150 (153 including ground affinity) (190 in waverider mode) movement speed, 225 (235) boost speed, 85 thrust and 84 (90 including affinity) turning speed. It has good mobility if you ignore the boosting speed, which is quite low, on par with pre NT-D Banshee. It has both LV3 Forced Injector and LV4 Flight Control however. It has a touchpad activated skill called M Flight Unit (P), this works like the Flight System skill found on other suits, but rather than using thrust, you gain unlimited thrust for 30 seconds, with dodge rolls taking 3 seconds off the timer. You also gain the ability to transform into a plane-like mode. After the 30 seconds have expired, you cannot activate flight mode again for another 40 seconds. If shot down before the timer ends, the time you had left on the clock is subtracted from your flight mode cooldown.

In conclusion, I feel that while the Penelope may be powerful when compared to other raids, it is still easily walled out by Xi Gundam, which makes it not that strong overall if you are fighting Xi players that know their stuff. The flight skill is so baffling to me, a suit that is designed around perpetual flight is forced to fight on the ground for most of the match, alongside having slow boosting speed. Considering how difficult it is to play and how Xi oppresses it, I expect it to get buffed eventually. I would be very happy if it got 235 boosting speed, 40 seconds flight duration and 20 seconds flight cooldown. Other old 700s will almost certainly get buffs as well at this rate... After boosting for a short time while transformed, boosting speed is increased by 10 and ram power is increased to 4000.
It also has LV3 Aux Power. This buffs your attack power by 30% and reduces damage taken by 95% for 10 seconds if an attack would destroy you while you have 1000 HP or more, your HP is also set to 800 once it activates.
Furthermore, it also has LV2 Pursuit Aux. Ranged Program, which buffs ranged damage dealt to stunned or knocked down enemies by 15%.

In my opinion, they need to make these 5 star mobile suits 750 or 800 and reblance some other suits to fit in with them. The freedom should be just as flighty and dangerous.

This suit is so much fun. The damage it puts out is crazy. Powerful combo I've found is: Flight -> Beam Rifle -> Funnel Missile -> Transform -> Funnel missile -> Beam cannon -> Transform -> Beam rifle -> Down swing -> whatever weapon to finish them off. It's crazy

0:49 This exact sequence is why I believe the limited flight mode isn't a big issue. If you're already high in the air you still have a lot of time to make things happening while slowly falling with flight control program. I feel like the only people complaining about this limitation from a gameplay perspective don't understand how to properly use a flight suit. Not to mention this suit has it even better than other flight suits by getting all of its thrusters back after its flight ends.
I could however accept an argument that the duration should have been the same as the cooldown time. Or that the duration and cooldown should be swapped.
Well, consider how much Xi can fly compared to Penelope. Xi with 100 thrust can fly for 20-30 seconds, and recovers the thrust to fly again after overheating in 6.3 seconds. It could fly for even longer if you use the new 7 step P2W part from the Penelope step up.
Penelope flies for 30 seconds and then can't fly for 40 seconds. I don't think that falling down with flight control is even nearly as strong as full flight, is is easy pickings for Xi at that point if they know what they are doing. I honestly think that Penelope would be much much stronger if it had the same flight mechanics as Xi.
@@avenger1_gbo260 I’m sure they wanted to differentiate the two of them by giving them different flight mechanics. At the end of the day they are selling players a product. They can’t have their fancy new 5 stars debut at the same time with the exact same gimmick. The Penelope trades infinite flight for a pretty strong flight mechanic and a full 8 weapon arsenal and skill loadout. The way I see it is I’m basically hearing players go “Aw man my 30 seconds of infinite flight just ran out. Now I gotta play on the ground with probably the most overtuned suit in the history of the game for 40 seconds man this sucks”. Of course the suit needs to have a downside, but honestly it’s probably the most manageable downside I’ve ever seen in a suit. It’s definitely better than getting your legs broken after EXAM or being left with no thruster after flight like most suits.

Some people were saying to use the HWS Nu. The shield? Melts in seconds because of the funnels missiles and, I can't be sure, but I believe the Penelope Mega particle cannon can go through th3 shield and hit you.
The Crab Sazabi? Just a giant and slow target.
Even if you can take them down, their stupid op defense kicks in and it is impossible.
My point being, it is impossible to play 700. Even with a good support, the Xi melts it.
It is downright depressing. The last true fun I had woth the game, was with the bug of the situation battle from last week.
I rolled for the penelope, just for the part, which is amazing for the delta kai. Other than that, my passion for this game is fading away faster than even before.
After this response, I am just waiting for the typical GBO2 elitist A-holes response of:
-Skill Issue
-X ms can take down Y MS
-Bad positioning
-Stay with your team
Hell, evem when they fly up in the sky, their movement is faster than the reticle can move.
Maybe it is the time to take a break for the game.

I was just in a match where most of the units where either Penelope or Xi and let me tell you, its a shi"#$ show lol these units can just float and rain missiles like crazy they are so much better than any other unit it becomes kind of ridiculous.
They're certainly strong and i think will take a while for us to figure out to how properly fight them, but i don't they're broken or something like that. And for me Norn still being the most opressive suit in 700, i mean, i never got one combo killed by a xi.

I think this is the furthest we can go in the UC timeline without having a new "TOP COST". If F90 or 91 stuff gets added, it should be 750-800

tbh, i don't feels like one sided like when the Norn was released. but it still too strong compare to the same cost cuz of it can fly for the most part. it doesn't belong on this cost 700. it trivilized many other 700 suit.

But damn if this dosent look impressive.. and irritating. Its a good thing i found a decent answer in the Mass production Quebley. had a fun match shooting down Xi's last week.. Im not sure how well this new flying fortress will do but i can say one thing.. the skys have gotten a lot less friendly these last two weeks.

Is the burn efficiency part any good?
Its really strong. You use -10% less thrust and it only costs 2 close slots, 2 mid slots and 1 long slot.

@SiegInvencivel nah, more boost efficiency for that cheap is honestly worth it 100%, you may have infinite thrust while flying but you're gonna spend a decent chunk of your time on cooldown or just not wasting flight so I'd say for 5 total parts slots used it's 100% worth it.
Thanks for the video! I think the only counter to these 2 new suits are suits that can instant knock them down. If not, the chance of survival is low haha.

This suit likely won't see buffs anytime soon due to how well it's gonna perform in the cost compared to the alternatives. I think another direction for buffs could be flap booster level 2

It probably won’t, since I’m pretty sure Sinanju’s beam rifle MA break only applies to regular MA but since this is a brand new type of MA I doubt it.

lazy gbo2 won't let Odysseus gundam detatch from the flight unit im sick and tire of this game cutting corners. like let him detatch from his flight unit when he is about to die....
It's a gacha game, so the incentive is to make more to have players potentially buy tokens to get what they want. Odysseus will be in the game, as a separate unit. It's no different than the Gundam MKII and the Super Gundam. That could've essentially been "1 unit" as well and have a touchpad press to remove the armor. Same for the Alex and the Chobham armor raid variant they released not that long ago.
Hey bud. I'll ask you straight. Been looking at some videos of this and xi. The penelope has alot of ranged offensive options. Much more than the xi . Would you say the penelope is superior to the xi ? You shit on quite afew xi's in this round. Saw some footage of some other folks doing the same.
I think Xi wins if the Xi player is good TBH. Penelope has a fighting chance while its flying for sure, but because of the cooldown on the flight skill, for most of the match you can't fly.
Penelope can shoot down careless/rookie Xi players on the ground but S rated Xi players will punish you heavily if you make a mistake.

Feel like it's gonna mainly be the opposite happening. Type disadvantage and long flight cooldown are big ass limiters on Penelope v Xi. Even if the Xi doesn't have flight that is as strong because it uses boost to move quickly, it has it way more often compared to a 40 second skill cooldown. All the ranged weapons on earth aren't gonna save you getting pummeled from the sky.
Lotta people aren't gonna be very good in these suits either since most people basically refuse to play space so I expect a lot of pilots to look pretty bad compared to Avenger or anyone who actually enjoys space, but I expect that'll change over time.
@@popo74aaI really don’t get why people don’t like space. If you use a suit with good thruster skills you can feel so incredibly mobile. Some of my best matches happened in space.
@@Jan_Iedemacombat in a 3D space where moving up and down is required is too much for some to get down and it's understandable. That and no one queues for space unless it's the daily.
