The 9:16am Belgrave service shown on the Flinders Street PID after the Riversdale is the "Puffing Billy Express". It stops only at Richmond, Glenferrie, Camberwell, Union, Box Hill, Blackburn, Mitcham, Ringwood, Bayswater, Boronia, Upper Ferntree Gully, arriving at Belgrave at 10:12am in time for the 11:10am departures of Puffing Billy. It notably skips the stations Heathmont, Ferntree Gully, Upwey and Tecoma, which don't have any other expresses skipping them; additionally Nunawading and Heatherdale have only 4 timetabled expresses, though a number of other non-timetabled but in service expresses do happen in the morning counter-peak (Non-PSR services).

I read about the train that ran to Lilydale with Tait G cars with gas lighting, an E class was attached and ran to Warburton. When the Warburton line was closed in 1965, the train to Lilydale ran to the same stopping pattern for many years, well into the ‘70s not sure about the ‘80s.
@@darylcheshire1618 Running Melbourne's existing network is so tight closer to the city, just removing a service (to Warburton) in the outer rim does not warrant changing the timetable. With several lines crossing free now and the operational launch of the 2nd Metro tunnel, it will be time giving timetable changes a go. Let's hope a lot of "car huggers" will notice it and giving those advances a meaning. Comparing single car drivers with single person passengers, train travellers are already the winners, especially the further one is travelling in Victoria. Observing Germany, a lot of country communities are rebuilding and activating their once closed side lines, offering their residents a much better lifestyle than what some can achieve with solely using their car for trips EVERYWHERE. Time for stepping forward here too.
