I really like how this is not just a 4 day train journey, it really is the destination & holiday in itself and stops for day tours along the way so your not just endlessly sitting bored on a train for 4 days. This is definitely on my bucket list!

I’m a oil driller on oil rigs in Australia and before I went home to Norway after 2 weeks on the rig, me and a few buddies Took this train first class for fun. Really a amazing trip. But if I paid myself, I would never do it. Thanks for a amazing video.

The Ghan has an average cruising speed of 85km/h (53 miles) and 115km/h top speed (72 miles). A lot of people think this is just some train trip you zoom across from one end to the other - as there is 0 traffic this would take them 26 hours if they did it at top speed straight, and 35 if they cruised at the average speed - so it goes to show over the 96 hours or 4 days they really do make it worth while and a true experience and holiday not just a glorified train ticket.

My husband and I stayed in one of the underground hotels in Coober Pedy, and it was one of the best sleeps I've ever had in my life! It was so cool and dark and quiet.
Great to see the video covering the Ghan from Darwin, since I’ll be taking it that direction next April but in the Gold Single. I’m also taking the Indian Pacific earlier in my trip Sydney to Perth and paid extra for a Gold double.
This is way better than flying across Australia and you might even come across some evidence of Priscilla Queen of the Desert too, from the same wonderful country that gave us the fabulous Kylie Minogue and Bondi Beach - I’d probably go there for the Sydney Mardi Gras and hit Oxford St soon after ❤❤❤❤

I rode The Ghan from Adelaide to Alice Springs in 2012 and it was lovely (although only in a Gold Solo room compared to the more elaborate ones shown). The Kangaroo steak I had for dinner is something I’m still thinking about twelve years later. Would recommend it to anyone visiting Australia, and am very happy to see it get a spotlight.

Ahhhh, memories. I backpacked around Australia many years ago. Spending my 25th birthday in Coober Pedy eating kangaroo steaks in an underground restaurant. Climbed Uluru (back then they called it Ayers Rock and you could climb to the top). Alice Springs for a couple of nights and Christmas in Darwin. Man oh man it was hot and humid!
