Last year I made a video called "My 3 Scariest Travel Stories," and I've decided to do a sequel because I've been in many scary situations since then which often go undocumented...
In this video, I tell you about 3 more terrifying stories that have happened to me in Afghanistan, Yemen and Libya.
Please note that these stories are based 100% on my own personal travel experiences. I DO NOT hate these countries -- in fact, it's just the opposite. When you travel to every country in the world, you're often going to be put in situations like these, and I feel like it's appropriate to share them with you.

Your story in Lybia reminded me of one of my crazy airport stories (not one or two funny experiences). I was just out of high-school when me and a friend from uni decided to spend the summer in USA. It was our first ever flight on an airplane...and this is what happened:
During the flight i suddenly notice that the girl sitting in front of me has a blue stamp on her visa while the one on my paper is black, so i slowly realize that it's a copy and i forgot the original home. We land at JFK in the middle of the night. At the checkpoint, the officer looks at my visa paper and after a short phone call strictly says: ''go to the back room''. It was my first ever time speaking with a native English speaker, so i thought i might have heard it wrong, but it was real. In the meantime, my friend was confused what was happening and didn't know what to do- to go with the group so she doesn't stay alone in New York in the middle of the night, in case i am sent back home or to wait for me so i am not left alone in New York in the middle of the night, in case they let me in...
I am sitting there in that back room, surrounded by people from different countries, dressed colorfully... I have to put my sunglasses on to hide the tears pouring down my face and i keep on thinking: ''my father had to take a bank loan for me to come here and now i may be have to go back...no, i can't go back home...i will hide and work as a waitress somewhere, until i save the money needed to give back to him.'' (just to mention, i was raised on a farm in a poor village in one of the poorest countries in Europe). I wait and i wait...until a tall uniformed woman slowly walks towards me, eating a donut, hands back my visa paper and tells me in a cool way ''next time don't forget your originals, alright''. It felt like a movie scene. So i'm finally running out of that back room, i am jumping and shouting with joy, and through happy tears hugging my good friend, who didn't leave me alone, but even persuaded the other girls from the group to wait for me. And this is how our crazy American adventure started with some crazy airport adrenaline...

Drew, with all due respect, being questioned 10 minutes at the airport of a country in the middle of a civil war is pretty easy, compared to the questioning they do to some travelers at the US airports!
right? I remember few years ago they were questening a 5 year old iranian kid at the US aireport for hours away from his parents.

That’s because other countries security protocols suck. They actually believed some random foreign TH-camr was an oil consultant and allowed him into their country. And in this case 2 different people from 2 different countries.

Because the people of Afghanistan are one of the best people I've met but their country is unfortunately been in war for almost 40 years, the safety of a country and the beauty of it is completely different things

Wow, Drew, I held my breath hearing you tell you scary moments. I took more smokes into Indonesia than I was allowed and in airport, an officer was searching my suitcase but I was saved as my shampoo bottle had exploded on the plane and he got his hand in it and threw everything back in. Phew!!

This is probably the most authentic travel channel. A lot of other channels just talk at you in this over hype and it makes it very force.

The drive from Salalah to Yemen was beautiful! I didnt get to the border, I recall driving over a valley with the setting sun beaming into it. An Omani soldier stood on a rock outcropping looking iver the valley at orayer time. We got to the other side and my passengers (fiance and her niece) talked me into turning around. We had no plans to cross the border just a bit of exploring.
You must be one very prayerful man. You always make it out of the craziest stuff...

I'm from Dubai but I was forced to go to Yemen cause my mom's Originally from there and we had to see some of my family members. It was extremely hard traveling in a bus for more than 24 hrs I guess 4 to 5 days. Went from Abu Dhabi to Salalah (Oman) and went through the border to enter Yemen. It was Really Tiring but glad I saw my awesome family members.

But these are just normal travel stories...nothing happened. He put himself out there, things worked the way they work in the places he was, and everything worked out.
I'm surprised that despite so much travels the scary travel stories are scarce. It seems the world is a safer place than many people think.

Especially relating to the second story you talked about:
Most times I´ve had experiences while travelling when I thought I was getting kidnapped, which at the end turned out to just be a misunderstanding and the locals were always willing to help.
Moral of the story: 99.9 % of people of the world are good and they will try to give you no harm, especially if you´re a tourist visiting their country.
Totally!! I experienced a legit attempted kidnapping in my childhood suburban USA neighborhood while out jogging (someone tried to bribe me into their car)…shit can happen anywhere. I do have to say, I find suburban developments creepy and will never live in one again!

I had a similar instance myself while traveling from Bangkok to Malaysia. I decided to travel the route by train. First class sleeper train. Nice trip, great scenery etc. At the half way point in Hat Yai, Thailand, about 16 Thai soldiers in full combat gear entered the train for our protection. OK?I guess. No firefights along the way, every so far so good. Travel ended in Songai Kalok. Spent time there and walked across the Thai-Malaya border to travel to Kotha Baru. On the way back, a building I stayed near to in Songai Kalok was blown to bits by an insurgents bomb. Lady Luck was with me since if my travel dates were changed I probably would have been to close to the bombing and my life could have changed for the worse.
No suprise your toughest moments were in these 3 countries. when you go to certain places you know the risk. When everything is done, you are happy to have lived something "adventurous" but in their right moments, when you fear for your life, man.....it's scaring ! It happened to me few times, mostly once between Colombia and Venezuela in an area infested by bandits and guerrilla. But ...we are here now, stronger than ever. ! how is the saying ? "what doesn't kill you, it makes you stronger".
A friend and I got held hostage in a hotel in Phnom Penh, it was definitely an experience I won't ever forget.

Im sorry to hear that after being and knowing more about Libya it is still at your top of dangerous moment, when it in fact was related to your own fear (inderstandable btw with the crazy stories others keep repeating). As woman from the Netherlands, being alone in Libya I can assure ... you and for sure Tripoli airport men and women have a high responsibility to be insure that all who enter the country are the one who it is saying, but the worsed thing what could happen .. putting you at a plane directly back. Nothing more In fact this happen to a friend as her visa seems not to be completly ok. She had a nice flight back to Tunis in the cockpit and after a few days she was back in the country and could do her job.
for me living and working in Libya ... I just enjoy it. Driving in my car seeing the country and enjoying being around with the people, but also the quite and empty spaces. Afraid ... no for sure not as you can find here the best, nice and most helpfull people in the world

Wow, impressive what you have to go through to create these videos. I moved to Malta in 2013 and they changed governments the same day/ evening as I arrived. Their fireworks are a lot more powerful to what I am used to and for a split second, I thought that Malta was under attack.
