Hello everyone, this is Ross McDonnell, director of Swift Justice, a film about Sharia Law under the Taliban. Thank you for watching.
We visited Helmand province in the aftermath of the Taliban takeover to see how the Islamic Sharia Court system was functioning at the village level for Afghans, what their issues were and crucially what role women had in the courts when they came to look for justice. We're here to feedback and answer your questions over the next couple of days. Enjoy the film.

This means that the mechanisms of justice are not available to the underprivileged people who can’t afford lawyers who can navigate the system on their behalf.

I appreciate this is an honest piece-not sensationalized. Certainly different, but it is a system of justice. Very communal and seems focused on solving a problem. The hardest part is the he-said/he-said arguments: He stole my land! No, I didn’t…

They favoured her father. She's not a person to them. She's the equivalent of an audio recording or some other palpable proof. They only asked her because she's there and she's proof.
And I would be curious to see that same verdict in the absence of cameras. In a justice system where the judge holds all the power - and there's no forensics, no jury, no nothing else, verdicts must vary wildly. It's all at his whim, basically.

New Yorker should thank Taliban for letting them in. USA still has Afghanistans money frozen in federal reserves.
The fact that westerners Zionists try to oppose sharia law is because it’s against their interests.
Women rights are an excuse to keep Taliban being hated by people who follow the mainstream media.

A 100 years ago in my village in Morocco, things were like that. People would meet in regional weekly souk (market) and discuss their cases; when they can't agree they take it to tribe leader. The tribe leader is a person who pledges allegiance to the king and controls the military and have punitive power.
This system usually works in distant places where government institutions aren't established and people can organise each other outside the bureaucratic process.

A nationalist mindset is not open minded and it's not going to help anyone progress. If we allow every Islamist organisation or other radical organisation to turn every other country in the world into a shithole, we must expect hundreds of millions of refugees who want to live in a peaceful, open-minded world. Tackling global problems like mass migration or climate change is only possible with a global community. Not "leaving other countries to their devices".
