We just purchased a 2022 BMW x3 m40i with the base stereo. This looks like a home run setup. However, I also ran across folks saying this amp caused the piped in engine sound and things like the turn signal to also be much louder. I think it’s called ASD…I’m all in to make this upgrade if I can confirm I won’t cause some crazy increase in the “active sound” system.
This channel is F’n awesome ( I’ve watched a ton of your videos ) I don’t even have a BMW but I love modified cars, been that way since forever. I wish there was a channel like this for Audi. Covering everything from hooking up moms sound system to 1,000hp builds. So dope 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Installed one of these in my 2023 330 x drive with really no difficulty and I’m a chick. They didn’t release a ton of cars with HK in 23 still due to the chip shortage back then so I got the step down. Now I had a 2009 335xi (4 door in manual) which was my all time favorite car I’ve ever owned and regret selling it.. but I hated the sound and I changed everything about it.. new alpine head unit, focal mids and tweeters in front and in the back I upgraded but forgot the name of the company.. the underneath the front seats I put in 8 inch subs.. nothing did the trick. I tweaked the amp settings and the settings in the alpine head unit and nothing changed the fact that there was no mid base. Owning another 3 series I’ve changed the amp but knowing they haven’t changed the speaker placement setup since the E90 I know that there is no speaker you can install that will make things better. So do yourself a favor, don’t waste your money on the whole thing.. get the bimmertech amp because the oem speakers can be pushed and it will surprise you. You can tweak settings within the amp as well if you wish. It gives the entire system the energy it needs and it will not screw anything up!
I purchased the front speakers & tweeters + dash tweeter, underseat subs, and their amp on my F30. Didn't like the preset they have on the amp. Contacted Bimmertech and got another file to try out. Hooked it up with my laptop, got it loaded, and man it's a real night and day difference from OEM base setup indeed!

Hey guys if you could only upgrade the speakers or the amp to the Alpha One which one would be more impactful to the quality of the sound? I have a g20 and wondering which upgrade I should do first.

Does this increase volume over the base system? The issue with base system is with windows down and volume up, it’s kind of low volume
Harmon Kardon from the factory is 875 meanwhile this alpha one amp is 999, while the HK comes with more and better speakers its a no brainer to get the HK right off the bat if possible
We wouldnt be having these videos if there wasnt a chip shortage. Im still sad HK got deleted in my 22 G05 X5 still trying to see how to retrofit using the bav sound upgrade

I swapped the subs under the seats and added an amp to them, sounds so much better. Very easy install. Went from 8ohm to 4ohm on the subs.

The HK speakers are pretty good in the X3, not as much bass as the F80, the amp is weaker :(
Brian, i have purchased a 2022 x3 M40 and it does not come with HK sound which is total bummer. For a car that cost $63k is no brainer how bad the sound system is. This should be a compatible upgrade, right?

Someone need to make an amp upgrade for the EPS audio on the E series M3/5/6 cars. They're failing and OEM replacements are not available.
I have a 2012 528i base model that speakers are going in and out and the bass cuts out and cuts in whenever I hit a bump sometimes will replacing the amp fix it ? Or is it another issue?
don't you have to disconnect the battery first before doing this? What with a hybride x3? only disconnect main battery of the car?

it should.. as the amp only amplifies the sound from the RAM to the Speakers. But maybe @Kies Motorsports will correct me if I am wrong. It's an important thing to know as it could be annoying.
Without the Harmon optioned on the build, don't you lose the speakers in the rear doors? If so, I'd still think it's better to pay for the HK from factory and then perhaps upgrade the speakers. Would like to see a vid with what you do to your G80 sound system as so many complain that audio sucks on the forums.
The supply issues mean that some of the newer cars don't have the HK option right now. Otherwise, I think it's definitely worth adding it

the whole reason why Bryan built up his F80 to 1000bhp is to swap in the 1000bhp S55 motor from the F80 into her G01 😂
