And have flown both between sfo and sin a lot even over the last few years. If I have to stop on that route, I would choose NH or BR or KE. But well, I guess you can't speak poorly of your "hometown airline" can you;)

    This makes little sense to me. As a professional traveler, you undoubtedly have travel insurance, which covers the cost of lost baggage and/or new clothes. Furthermore we've seen you purchase your tickets with a credit card - most credit cards offer automatic travel insurance. And as most commentators have mentioned, a couple of jeans and t-shirts are FAR CHEAPER than a last minute trans-pacific business class ticket on a major airline. Either there’s something else to his trip cancellation - whether it be medication mistakenly left in the lost luggage or other, personal reasons to urgently fly back home - or Noel is officially out of touch with the average flyer that likely makes up most of his subscriber base.
    Something’s probably going on behind the scenes here, whether it be ulterior motives to return home or United giving him the privileged, flight vlogger treatment…as others have pointed out already it financially makes a lot more sense to buy enough clothes for a few days at the airport and bill the airline than a last-minute business class ticket home.
    Either way, it doesn’t seem like it occurred to Noel before uploading that without further context, this and the past couple of videos all have a contrived and out of touch vibe right out of the box.

    • @paranoma87
      @paranoma87 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      He has stated multiple times that he doesn't accept any gifts or fares or anything from the airlines. He always just buys his own tickets without their knowledge of who he is as it would alter his videos. Also, ticket fares vary wildly and with much less connection to time until departure than you would think. You can often get the best deals right before the flight departs.

    • @Alboravin
      @Alboravin ปีที่แล้ว +19

      @@paranoma87 If you're happy to take his word for it, you do you.
      It would have to be an extremely good deal on a last minute *business class* ticket for that option to be cheaper than some basic clothes shopping at the airport, billed to the airline.
      I stand by what I originally stated. It doesn't appear to be a rational, logical decision just from the information that we're given in the past couple of videos, which leads me to believe that there were some other, hidden factors at play as I mentioned in my first comment. Either that or heading home was purely an emotional decision (e.g. he was homesick) and that's absolutely fine, it's just that unfortunately without that contextual information these videos end up giving off a contrived and disconnected vibe which is likely not what Noel intended.

    • @paranoma87
      @paranoma87 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@Alboravin I never asserted any opinion on his motivations for going home. I am in the industry and I can tell you that ticket prices do not steadily increase the closer you get to the departure, regardless of which cabin that is in. That is just not how it works.
      As far as his motivations to head home: obviously it was for some other reason than that his clothes were stuck in Australia. The guy travels all the time and for long periods of time. It's not really anyone's business, if he heads home so what. He still made a video of it and I still enjoyed it.

    • @Alboravin
      @Alboravin ปีที่แล้ว +6

      @@paranoma87 Cool. A lot of people here know that you can get ticket upgrades on the cheap the closer you are to your departure, I personally did that back in December with WestJet and I have done so repeatedly in the past. Regardless, that still doesn’t come out cheaper than essentially free clothes, unless of course Noel isn’t telling us everything about the treatment he gets from his ‘hometown airline’.
      No doubt it’s his own personal business, in much the same way that viewers are also allowed to make observations on what’s shown in a public video, form their own opinions and then either subscribe, remain subscribed or unsubscribe accordingly.

      Salt Lake for instance is a delta hub that was inherited in the 80s by delta buying WESTERN airlines they kept it
      Unlike say St. Louis which American abandoned (delta has more service) shortly after buying out TWA
      Stl in the day was bigger than O'Hara cuz of the McDonnell Douglas plant and being the home hub for TWA
      Then let's not get into Alaska air and sea tac which is a home hub for their Alaska service but they lease and codes share a LOT
      Also dfw is wierd cuz it used to be a hub for 2 airlines in the 80s American bought deltas hub and now its a mega hub beyond united and O'Hare or delta in Atlanta

Flown Business 3x (4x if you count a misclassified row DFW-MIA) with the other two being a VS 350 and a VS 789 and...yep, I'd take the Polaris seat over the other two. So this trip teport rings true for me, though I haven't made it up front on DL or AA current products.

    I just recently came upon Noel's videos and I have to say the things that sucked me in to binge-watching them over Christmas and New Years were the quirky and unique topics combined with the down to earth attitude.
    The videos with SCAT airlines, the least-used airport in the US (Alliance, NE), the Greyhound bus trip, all of that. The "4 consecutive cheapest flights" video from Stansted to Nepal was amazing. It was great to see a seasoned traveler just grin and bear it with all of the various problems that get run into.
    As a bit of feedback - it feels weird that you just abandoned this trip and opted to fly home. Film of you clothes shopping in Singapore would have been hilarious. Or, at the very least, show people how experienced travelers deal with these hiccups. I mean you somehow survived some of the worst airlines and airports in the world, but a lost bag is the thing that caused you to cut your trip short? It just feels strange.
    If there was some other reason to cancel the trip - stuff in the checked bag that was irreplaceable without going back home, illness, or some kind of family emergency - just tell your audience that. I think some of the comments are a bit harsh, but not entirely unsurprising from the internet.

The only let down it seem is the food which they’re redeveloping according to their management. On other routes to Europe and Latin America they can be a hit or miss.
