I just got my powerplant license on 2/22/2022. Now I’m studying for my airframe written and O+P. Its a lot of studying, but for those who’s still in school and is trying to get their license, hang in there. You can do it if you put your mind to it. Preparing for the O+P can be nerve wrecking, but if you’re prepared, you’ll be fine as you’re taking it.

@@hollyw00d89 yes i took an oral for general aviation and powerplant and will take an oral test when i test for my airframe license. With my experience, when you take your first o+p, you have to pass general before you move on to the powerplant or airframe sections. When you take your practicals, for me, the only general practicals i did was doing weight and balance records, filling out maintenance records, knowing how to fill out a form 337, knowing how to use a multimeter, and visual inspections when i was doing my powerplant practicals. And when i did my powerplant practicals, i had to remove a cylinder off an engine, lubricant the piston and reinstall the cylinder, do a compression test, you need to know what to do with the engine before doing a compression test, remove and install spark plugs, And i had to file a nick out of a propeller blade. And my DME wanted me to show him where i got my information in the maintenance manuals before i did anything.

      @Jude13able 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

That's good if you plan to be a mechanic. Look into all the areas associated with this career to plan out your path. I'll list most of them for you:
Airframe mechanic involves sheet metal, composite, and welding (some places in aviation only require this certification)
Powerplant mechanic (some places in aviation only require this certification)
      Airframe and powerplant mechanic
Avionics mechanic (sometimes requires an FCC)
      FAA inspector
      NTSB inspector
Aviation Inspector (sometimes requires an NDT Level 1 or 2 certification)
NDT inspector levels 1, 2, and 3 (4 year degree is usually required)
      Pilot (private/commercial)
At your age you have plenty of time and what I suggest is (with parental guidance) had your dad or guardian take you to a nearby small airport and see if you can talk to some pilots or mechanics to get a better look at aviation. In addition, you can ask your school administrators to allow your class to visit an aviation facility. On my last job in Atlanta we had several school tours.

I know this is a recruitment video for the SUU AMT program. However, there is another way to obtain your A&P certificate, its through military aviation maintenance experience. If you were/are in the military and hold (or have held) a MOS/Rating in aviation maintenance recognized by the FAA, you may already qualify to test for the A&P certificate without attending a college or university program or a private AMT School. Check with your local FAA Flight Standards District Office (FSDO). I have been a A&P (with IA) since 1994 and this is how I obtained my certificate.

I want to got there after A&P school. I'd love to get experience from there instead of starting off a small airline when marines have so many benefits. I want to do marines for 4 years, get a bachelors of business management (to get promoted faster) as im enlisted. Then when im 23 ill have an A&P, military benefits, A bachelors of businesses management, and 4 years experience. I wonder which employers wouldn't employ me if I have a stacked resume like that. Would all of that actually work though and could I manage all of that

Hey Dey Dey! It looks like you've put a lot of thought into this. Using our school as an example, you may be able to take some classes for concurrent enrollment to count for your college education. (Link: www.suu.edu/aviation/concurrent-enrollment.html )
Getting your AMT training with us takes about 18 months and grants you your Associate's degree, and the ability to test for your Airframe and Powerplant Certificates. If you're curious about our program, we recommend reaching out to us at aviation@suu.edu or 435-586-7862
As for your questions about the Marines, your best bet would be to speak to a recruiter about your plan. Generally, after finishing your service, you should be eligible for the G.I Bill that you could use to cover your education costs.
      Hope this helps!

Airline jobs are always short the recruitment drives start as early as your first year of high school at 16 years old like me. When I got got to the first meeting I had a GED at sixteen years old because the airline industry got the school to kick me out to take the GED so I could report to work. My first day at LaGuardia the weren’t answering any of my many questions and I was so frustrated and locked in the yard at lunchtime with all the other students that I just left the school. The student recruitment is heavy and unyielding but they didn’t give me no answers. I was 16 years old. This airline industry is extremely aggressive but also unyielding and abrupt. I passed the GED three times and two of those retakes was to make sure the original score was correct.

We are accepting international students for our A&P mechanic program. You’ll need to live here, in Utah, for the maintenance training. If you’d like more information on the program, you can contact us at aviation@suu.edu or at 435-586-7862

Getting an a&p license really needs to be revised by the feds because it's pretty much useless if you go to work with a major air carrier cuz you learn nothing except for basic stuff like the general section
