LSA Monte Carlo: First Test Drive After 3 Years! (It Might Blow Up)

  • Well guys it felt really good to pull ole Ralph out back onto the road again. We take a cruise around DFW...err...I mean Mexico to see if the transmission will hold up to some sliding around. We also determine what issues the car does have in order to establish what the plan of attack is moving forward when it comes to the "finishing" of the 6.2L LSA 6L90e swap build!

My cat was a 1983 Monte Carlo SS.destroked 400 with a small nitrous hit. N/A it ran low 12's in 1992. With the hit it plunged into the high tens and by 1995 it hit high 9's. This was a lot back then. No turbos but N/A. Race fuel and suspension mods were the key factor. That car just was set up to race from the factory. Any more than low 9's it would need much more done but you get me. It had a cage for the time. Now it's way more strict. Giving you props and hope you the best! Only being helpful I hope??

For $10 you can buy a Bluetooth dongle and cast a “dash “ onto any tablet or phone from your obdII. The one I have is an ELM327. You can customize to show any data you want. I used to use it to check the individual voltages across each oxygen sensors for troubleshooting and stuff. Best purchase a home mechanic can make.

6l80 isn't terribly complicated, you'd be able to toss in a fresh set of clutch packs. 4-5-6 is the weak clutch pack, not physically but environmentally. Oil flow through it sucks so it can overheat 4-5-6 whenever it isn't engaged and you're jamming high rpm 1st-3rd gear.

I just heard you say that your running the trans outta the Escalade, and it's basically still set up for all wheel drive.
Light bulb moment just happened, and really surprised you haven't had the same thought come screaming through the gray matter.
Catch my thought waves yet, because I am fairly certain it's never been done, and it's got the extra long hood line that would be excellent to make it happen. Then your fleet would be all one an the same, well for all practical purposes would it not.
Plus you said it yourself, Ralph, doesn't handle for shit, and what handles like they're on rails like nothing else!?
I'll leave that to wonder round between those ears, and floating around behind your eyes.Plus Ralph is very nice ride, but time to put on the A game team jersey, like all the others.

If you soak the mirror in gas, the glass should come out. Then you can whack the ball to tighten the mirror. Once it is tight enough use black silicone to re-glue the glass in place. Have done this on Corvette's with success.

Some of those old mirrors I think had a tension screw on them, not for sure though. May have been the sun visors, I can’t remember. Tasted blood, lol, definitely a bad machine!

Good afternoon, and happy new year!! Sorry to hear of the antics with your truck. That sucks!! Having viewed most of your videos (with the exception of the early stuff) I would respectfully like to offer some suggestions. 1st,,, the Monte. Because the fuel is questionable, drain the remaining fuel, and check all filters. I have been down that road before and it can be problematic. The upside is, it seems to be running ok given it has sat for an extended period. Ok, here are some random thoughts that I feel could help increase your overall viewership as a whole. As you are approaching a half dozen or so projects, try to do a little something to all of them a week. While I know full well it may work in theory, it may not work in practice. All of us have our particular favorites. Be it Elvis, Uncle Rob, or the Newell,we as an audience are drawn to you and what you do for various reasons. The Motorcoach guys are drawn to the Newell. For a grocery list of reasons. First someone of your age doesn't do "Motorcoach's!!!!!! HOW COOL IS THAT!!!!! 😊 One video a week would suit us just fine. Like,, fixing the bathroom, maintenance, oddball inexpensive stuf you can do that doesn't take a lot of time form the other projects. 2nd,, The Escalde. I know it has been on the back burner for over a month due to the issues with the heads. Further,, other that a significant upgrade,, it (at this point) is done! Summer is right around the corner and the Escalde is one of the premiere attractions to your channel. 3rd. Uncle Rob is awesome!!! I so enjoyed the effort to get it together and run it in Florida. (Suck it Cole!!) Uncle Rob is a true labor of love. 4th,, The Monte!! What a wonderful addition to the herd in Oklahoma!! As far as I can tell you have a few days worth of kinks to work out. Because it has a bit of a cobbled set up and you have some odd issues with the transmission, you have a guy close to you that is the 9th wonder of the world for those transmissions in Amarillo. Check out precision transmissions on TH-cam! He is amazing and has well over 100k in followers. He and his family are beautiful human beings and at very least it wouldn't hurt to check it out, or meet him. I watch his videos everyday. Absolutely delightful!!! In closing,, all of these projects require money,,, a lot of money. I get that,, truly I do. I want to see your viewership explode! I know some of the viewers are growing weary of the backstory. I for one am not. One day you could be the next Jeff Lutz, or pick whatever motorhead hero that comes to mind. I appreciate you taking the time to document the history. Moving forward I think you are on to something there. I apologize for being so wordy. I have been reluctant to share at risk of sounding like some old douche bag. I just thought I would offer some suggestions. I wish you well Mitchell. Bask in the glory of youth. Thank you for taking us along for the ride. 😊

I read it and appreciate the insight. That’s pretty much what my plan is. Bounce around a little on each project to keep the stream fresh 👍🏻
