As a child it never occurred to me that this was probably an actual cost-saving measure, and not just a funny joke.

I don't think it was to save cost, but to save time. Maybe they were coming up on deadlines.
They could have made another boss if they wanted to. I'm thinking the Fungi Forest spider miniboss was meant to be the Creepy Castle boss but for whatever reason they changed it. Probably because they needed filler.

Whatever Rare smoked back in the day it was damn good.
I seriously love the idea of a boss fight being basically the bad guys who ran out of time and money since the heroes were too quick to defeat their other forces, so the last thing to hold the crew until the final boss is just something cheaply made lol

What amazes is me is that Rare made a boss battle with a _cardboard cutout_ and they made it WORK.
You'd think this would by the weakest boss conceptually and gameplay wise, but this is the penultimate boss, and I thought it was hilarious.

Funnily enough, I made this boss much scarier for myself when I was a kid.
I initially thought the Kremlins were basically trying to tear apart a sentient cut out of K-Rool.
So yeah, the idea that a cut out can not only move on its own but also shoot lasers kidna terrified me, especially with the noises that it was making.
As a small kid playing this it was incredibly creepy. Its a horror themed level so I took it as a sentient piece of lumber.
Hands down the most creative boss ever.
Laz The Great Mighty Poo is more creative.

As a kid I could never get past the 3rd phase where he repeatedly pops up really fast, I couldnt react fast enough or figure out his pattern. This boss was kinda scary to me back then. I finally beat this second try today
I remember struggling on the 3rd phase too.
It's that pattern of his, you have to enter the barrel the instant you see it rise at the barrel you're standing behind, that's not easy to do.
When I first did this boss, I struggled with that too but then figured out that the canon where the real one is will light up. I never could beat K. Rule though because I sucked at that jumper man game in Frantic Factory, sadly.

Easily one of the weirdest boss fights in gaming
I've seen people say this boss scared them or that they thought it was hilarious. I still have no idea what the intended vibe was. It's so bizarre and surreal lmao
Sure, some may see this boss as cheap or lazy, but to me its the funniest in the game. I mean think about it- the implication is that the Kongs have beaten every single boss that K. Rool threw at them up until this point, and now the Kremlings are legit out of real bosses for them to fight, save for K. Rool himself. So what do they do? Slap together a giant, dumb cardboard cutout of their boss to fight the Kongs, all while doing his voice themselves.
this is exactly why this boss is so funny to me and withstood the test of time to me. its just funnier to picture the kremlins doing the silly voice and laugh 😂

This boss battle was both terrifying and hilarious when I first played it. Something about this is creepy as fuck.

For being a last-minute boss it's extremely creative and funny boss
this is the most funniest boss on the game especially the laugh when he shot those lasers or when he lose a limb. When he pop up random from each corner he sound like Sonny the cuckoo bird.

Ok so I thought of this the other day and imagine my version of the boss for Creepy castle. Of course you enter as Lanky as the door requests but instead of fighting King Kit out it would be the Resident Ghost that haunted the Minecart challenge. You would be locked inside of a closed big room inside the castle and it’s pitch black with Squawks being the only one there to help u with a flashlight. TNT barrels will pop up along with simmy slam pads that u have to press the right one depending on the ghosts color hand. The hand drops to capture you so like King kut out u have to be careful with the Kong’s. When u slam on the correct path a flash of light stuns the ghost and drops for u to blast it with a barrel. As u progress, k rools undead grunts will try to get you and the exploding heat seeking skulls will come after you. Let me know what y’all think!
I loved doing impressions of KKO's yelling when I was a kid.
Everyone always talks about how creepy and silly this fight is but nobody stops to think about how powerful these two Kremlings are:
They can swing this massive flat object up at an extremely high speed despite the insane air resistance they need to overcome while having almost no leverage on it due to how much shorter they are. King Kut Out probably also weighs thousands of pounds and that's just assuming it's made of normal cardboard/wood which it probably isn't considering it can resist falling apart from the massive force that's put upon it by this movement.
They can run around the arena (which seems to be several hundred feet around) in a matter of seconds while carrying and raising King Kut Out over and over, which again requires not only insane strength but also speed.
They can somehow make it shoot lasers with no visible hardware attached to it, probably from their sheer Gigachad force of will.
They can yell loud enough to make their voice completely clear even over the castle wall at a good distance away.
In summary these guys pretended to lose. The Kongs would get obliterated if the Kremling Duo challenged them in a direct fight. Instead they held back and appeased K Rool by having the Kongs fight a mere toy. In time they will overthrow him and rule as the new kings once their other plans have come to fruition.

This is probley the most............. creative and brillaint bosses I have ever seen I meen come on what other game has a gaint cardboard cut out of the main antagonist that shoots lazers out of its eyes, is killed by you launching your selfe from a canon into it, has a hilarius ridiclus voice that sounds nothing like k.rool, is surprisingly difficult, and is the boss to a haunted castle non the less. Brilliant

I'm pretty sure there are certain video game companies that had a lot of ideas they want to put in the games being developed, but unfortunately the developers are unable to do it with the current technology they had during that time.
@@NO-1-U-NO Not to mention: DK64 was already using so much memory, given how big the game was at the time. While this boss is a great joke of “putting down a boss together in 5 minutes” I think they literally had to save memory and money here. Especially since the failure of the N64 DD contributed to this issue, as well.

This is the only boss that you can use any kongs you want. But the problem is, if you miss with the cannon, you lose that character for the rest of the battle. So if you lose all characters, you lose the battles itself.

Lanky Kong’s Voice is perfect for this boss battle because Kut Out’s Voice sounds like Banjo got hit in the nuts [yes, I know King K Rool And Banjo share the same voice actor]
@mrserjmalakian I did some research, they actually used like 4 different vocal types of people, then sped up the tempo and increased the pitch to make the funny voice we all know and love. :)

This Boss is always for me the sixth Boss because King Kut Out is the Boss from Creepy Castle and I always made the Crystal Caves as World 7, so Army Dillo 2.0 is for me Boss 7.

When I was a kid I played this on an old shitty TV and it was damn near impossible to see when there was no lightning.
This boss is awesome very creative. To me the pufferfish was far and away the hardest and most annoying boss.
Thats the one I kept failing on, though that could have been because I was young, inexperienced, and incompetent.
