I actually beat this boss fight the day my uncle passed away, I was about to go over to his house afterward...so this fight is somewhat sad.

@@CountBleck2009 The best thing you can do is spend as much time as you can with him and try to make his day as fun as possibly can. You don't take days like that for granted. You just have to stay positive and make his days the best. My uncle passed away around the people he loved and I have to believe that he died happy way back 21 years ago. God bless your father and hope everything is well.
@@evanwilliams6406 I appreciate it. He suffered a massive stroke in late 2018 and me and my family have been helping take care of him at home since then. I came back to TH-cam after finally finding some joy gaming again and this kind of gives me a reprieve. I hope to release a video soon that explains this and more importantly try to help prevent others from suffering the same fate.

4:16 when dogadon sinks into the lava, it looks like he's giving the player the middle finger, or he could be just shaking his fist in anger

actually he's just flailing around in agony and probably trying to grab the platform and pull his half melted body from the lava. it even looked like the tips of his claws or fingers burned off...
I see what you are saying but looked like he was just clawing at the air due to the agony he was in. And maybe your right but I'd think he'd be in too much pain to be able to think "fuck you". That's what I'm saying. And if the game was as adult as you say it makes more sense that the bosses would suffer more anyway.
He's definitely giving the finger. Notice the backside of his hand is turned towards you, and that he's thrusting it up and down rather than shaking it around in anger. Plus, this is Rareware, they love slipping stuff past the censors. xD

People always tell me to use the Primate Punch but i sometimes can't get him to fall

@@AxlTheScourge literally you just keep beating the crap out of him until you get that cutscene where he flattens him against the wall. I struggled a lot as a kid too thinking you had to primate punch him the entire time. It can be done, but definitely not recommended lol.
You know what makes this boss fight FEEL epic despite being ultra cartoonish, is the buildup and collection of progress the player makes up to that point: unlocking Diddy Kong to fight the first stage of this boss levels ago, unlocking Chunky Kong, enabling his super size power, learning how to fight with it, and then this happens.
I know this is an unrelated game, but I beat Wolfenstein Colossus again last year. And I remember seeing the four-story tall Nazi robots to fight. That sounds awesome, but there's nothing else similar to them in the game, and you just shoot them in typical fashion. It looked visually cool but was pretty underwhelming. It shouldn't be underwhelming, Nazis were a real threat once upon a time. You should feel extremely satisfied taking something impossible down.

Fun fact: Dogadon's roars are actually stock sounds of Godzilla's roars from the 1978 Hanna-Barbera Godzilla cartoon. This is effectively a posthumous, uncredited appearance by Ted Cassidy.

Old school games like these allways had you on the edge of your seats going "OH NO HE WONT MAKE IT" and then in the end he does with a REALLY close call lmao... They need to start making masterpieces like this again.

Best close shave I've ever seen. I often just punch him repeatedly instead of using the super punch on him. I just find it to be a quicker winning method.

Yeah, most people just hang off the ledge but I learned this trick years ago before even uploading this video. You can also fight Mad Jack and beat him without Tiny's twirling ability.

@@derriethelm1524 Sorry for being a few days late but all you do is jump and then press B to have Chunky do his double jump animation. The fire wall only is programmed to hurt you if you're on any part of the platform. Essentially, I just jump and wrap around it. It's really easy once you figure it out.

honestly this battle horrified me as a kid. the feeling of an impending agonizing demise was imminent. no matter what on of these creatures is going to burn alive in lava... i felt so sorry for dogadon. the reptile/insect wasn't even evil. diddy kong killed its child by stomping on is head. the poor creature was so consumed by rage and anguish that all it could think about was inflicting agony and death on the ones responsible. and the reason it takes so long to die in lava unlike a real reptilian dragon (in theory in case they actually existed) is because he does not have scales or skin but an exoskeleton. this can protect him but only temporarily. after he falls in the lava for the final time his scream of anger turn into shrieks of excruciating agony. his body was indeed burned to ash because if he was immune to lava he would not combust and the fire would not turn to smoke (indicating that all the flesh has been consumed. of course donkey kong is in the mario universe and no one ever really dies even if they are burned to ash. look at bowser. he was burned to a skeleton and came back. dogadon is immensely powerful compared to real animals but hes not immortal. he died in agony, he did not survive. they just brought him back like bowser. of course bowser died not scream in realistic agony and writhe like this either. he just appeared as a skeleton. dogadons death is way worse than bowsers. dogadon is my favorite donkey kong character actually. his eyes don't look evil or malicious. they look wise and intelligent. i truly feel sorry for this creature suffering the worst physical and emotional agony. losing your child and then being slowly burned to death. this is so unlike donkey kong. its very dark and more like something from sonic. i'm surprised this was in a silly game its so dark and pretty violent...
Eh, I was more upset that Dodagon was attacking poor Chunky just for being the same race as Diddy.

I know now why Dogadon is an insect... a real dragon would have bled and the skin would have melted off... if dogadon is an insect they can censor it to a burning exoskeleton and hemolymph boiling hemolymph... either way though it’s obvious he’s in excruciating agony by the war he’s shrieking and howling. The way he gets all lethargic is because he’s going into shock. Which happens if someone combusts very quickly because the agony is so immense that it overloads their nervous system causing total deliriousness and loss of reason as well as Loss of coordination... And the way the fire Is coming off his burning body is very lifelike it’s like a person who’s been napalmed... this is very unlike donkey Kong and is extremely traumatizing. Even the way you hear him gasping as his body is bashed off the wall is realistic

@Mccracken987 finally someone who shares what I experienced, I was like 6 years old(had it since about 4) and I would constantly get mad at the game-I got stuck here ONE YEAR,until finally I beat it!
-yup the same thing happened to me,I would panic at the end and would just hit him with megapunch instead of regular punches; so I would end up in the lava...

When i was a kid i thought the walls were made up of burnt mushrooms and i used to make chunky kong jump off the platform just to touch the wall😂😂. Also i kept on sinking into the lava because i made chunky walk around like a idiot instead of straight out beating the hell out of dogadon.
And yes! He's saying fu after he's done but he didn't die though, the cut scene showed him when you get to crystal caves. This fight IS EPIC cos u r racing: either you die or he dies

honestly, as a kid, this boss terrified me. dont really remember why, but all these years it stuck with me as the scariest boss of my childhood.... even tho i played horror games back then too.... shits weird

I remember one time, I used to have a hard time defeating this boss but now it’s not that hard.
I'm confused. Is this Boss a bug or reptile? Cuz' it looks more like an actual Dragon than a Dragonfly.
A real dragon is a reptile I think dogadon is a reptile insect hybrid... Or maybe he was a dragon who someone grafted insect wings onto? We'll probably never know but he does not belong in the idiotic world of donkey kong he's way to cool and this battle and its precursor are too dark for donkey kong as well donkey kong is supposed to be funny.

Actually he’s an insect entirely. He’s just shaped like a reptile. He doesn’t have scales but an exoskeleton you can see the opening in the exoskeleton where his neck comes out

I believe I remember Nintendo’s own power guide they made years ago saying the same thing. But quick punches can help as well. Sometimes I can land four hits per turn and other times only three.

I watched this video because ten-year-old me needed closure on how to beat this thing. I was just running up and giving him hands after getting big and didn't know I shoulda been super punching him. I tried to beat this boss two or three times before just giving up on the whole damn game. Lol

Replaying this in 23-24 and I got stuck on this boss for about a half an hour. Just realized that the barrel doesn’t spawn if you’re on the little star platform. The boss isn’t super hard once you figure that out.

This fire breathing dragonfly isn't that hard if u know how to control it right. As the video shows, u can dodge that wall/sea of fire attack by edge hanging or back away from it or jump then b attack in midair to get around it. I always tried to hit him w the barrel after the 3rd time he was hit to try to stop him from pounding the platform which will make chunky sink in the lava. But the fking game doesn't allow it((( After he pounded the platform, you have 5 cycles to kill it before you fall in, so need to be quick. After you hit him w the TNT, you MUST EITHER BACK AWAY from the centre or backflip in midair to make the chunky barrel appear asap!! Don't do it like what the video did during the first cycle cos it costs TOO MUCH TIME! Then just punch him 3 times regularly instead of primate punch. If all goes well, you should kill it by the 4th cycle the latest before you sink in

Three-punch combo is the best option. Primate Punch takes 3-5 business days in boss fight time here.

I just got back from Death Battle, and my brain is fried from all the whining that goes on over there.
I always thought he burned to death. He seemed like he was writhing in agony. You can see his fingers melt off if you look very closely that's when the fire turns to smoke indicating that he's actually starting to burn to ash of course the rest of him is already submerged and dead by that point which is their way of censoring him burning to death. He was not immune to lava I believe he was using a magic spell or sheild and when he got his body smashed off the wall the sheild broke so when he fell into the lava and was too damaged to get out and without his magical force feild he burned to death.
It's also sad he was not evil he (or she) was protecting his/her child whom Diddy brutally murdered by curb stomping. I love dragons (though dogadon is an insect and not a true dragon which is a type of reptile) I still feel sorrow for the creature. It's eyes looked so intelligent and wise. Hard to imagine them melting out of their sockets. Of course this creatures Damn powerful. Even a real dragon would die instantly if it fell into lava or got bombs in its face. Dogadon is the coolest donkey kong character period he should have been befriended and quite pissibly could have been had little fuck faced Diddy not commuted infanticide!!!

I was never able to defeat this fucking boss.
Sorry. This is a terrible boss fight. I recently redid this fight on emulator, cheating like hell to the point where I was almost pixel perfect, and still lost because I tried to only "primate punch" once the boss and chunky were large. (fyi, try doing that and you will fail every time). After failing, I remembered failing at this same boss back in the day for doing the same thing. When a character has unlocked a "super move" like primate punch, to expect them to know that the only way they can beat a boss (which telegraphs nothing) is with regular attacks, is BAD GAME DESIGN.
MasterFhyl I came here just because I remembered struggling a lot against this boss when I was a kid, for the exact same reasons you stated, and I was curious if there was something that I was missing... Anyways, sorry for my bad english...

Cranky would say "git gud". So would I, though, I managed to do it with only primate punches (although normal punches seem to have a better effect). Thus, "super move" is used wrongly here, as you learn the punch in Frantic Factory. Can't blame bad game design when you're so salty, right? Although there are other instances were the design is rather poor, yet nothing relevant with Dogadon's fight.
