Never NEVER GO INTO JOANN's WITHOUT A PLAN!!!!! Trust me if you walk in the store on a whim you will get overwhelmed and HAVE NO Idea what you actually need and spending far more than any conceivable budget! DON'T do it!!!!!
NWCountryGirl17 I made that mistake the first time I went. I bought so much unnecessary fabrics because they looked cool and I figured I would use them (at some point) and it was a mess. Planning is you friend.
Omg, I would totally sink into this shop and they will have to search for me with some rescue team. I could spend hours in my favourite haberdashery, but THIS! This must be paradise. Btw, the blue fabric with flowers at 2:01 would be just perfect for a kimono I'm dreaming of. :)
I went to JoAnn with a friend to get fabric for a prom dress and remembered my coupons (and figured out when the sales were) the original price for her fabric was approximately $170 but she only paid about $48 This is why I LOVE coupons! Thank you for these tips Mango. Her sister loves the penguin fabric too. ;-P
Thank you so much, this is really helpful! I went to Jo-ann's yesterday to look at patterns and fabric for my friend and I's Miku and Rin Meltdown cosplay from Vocaloid and it was so overwhelming! I only came out of there with a few ideas of what I needed and a few patterns in mind. This video has really helped me to go in there more prepared.
This was the first video I ever saw from you and I have to say that you are one of my new favorite TH-camrs and cosplayers! You are so friendly and open and so so beautiful.
This is extremely helpful. I've only cosplayed once and that was this past January, so I'm very new to this. I'm also a guy who wasn't really exposed to this kind of knowledge growing up, nor was I interested. How I wish that I listened to my mother and sisters more about sewing :(. Thanks again!
A fun fact about Joann coupons: there is really no limit to the amount of coupons you use as long as the codes are different. There is also no limit to how many emails, or people in a household that can sign up. This past weekend I managed to have 12 60% off coupons.
That is an intense Joanns you have there. The one I work at is super tiny. I didn't even know our stores could come with two floors. I agree with ALWAYS cheeking red tag. You never know what you'll find. It's all either discontinued stuff, or warehouse leftovers. We got flat bolts of upholstery vinyl that was perfect for Organization cloaks at my store back in October. I missed the chance to get it, though. Also, yeah, never shop at Joanns without coupons, unless we're having a super awesome sale, aka Black Friday. You wouldn't believe the discounts I saw with a 60% off coupon we had a couple weeks ago.
Hi Mango, new subscriber here and I have been binge watching your videos as I prepare costumes for my husband and I for some conventions and Ren faires. I just wanted to point out another awesome thing about Jo-Anns that falls under somewhat under coupons. Jo-Anns price matches so if another store is having a really good sale such as Hancock or Michaels you can take the ad to Jo-Anns and get the same prices. This worked out in my favor recently for some faux fur I needed for ears and other accessories. Hancock had their fur 50% off but their prices (in my area) range about $20 - $30 dollars a yard. I took the add to Jo-Anns where their fur ranges $15 - $20 dollars a yard and managed to walk away with a great bargain. A side note for this is try to do this during their non peak hours. it does take a bit of finagling at the register so take a little longer than normal. It's just more considerate to other shoppers and for the employees to not do this when they have 10+ people in line.
yOU ARE SO LUCKY TO HAVE THAT KIND OF STORE!!? I have to travel for about an hour or so to find a shop with maximum 10 different fabrics to choose between, where the price is around 25 dollar per yard (and that'd be the cheapest ones, usually)... thank god for ebay though! And redesigning H&M clothes xD
You have NO IDEA how much this helped me on my current cosplay project. All the couopons and taking photos of my fabrics and pulling it out..like...for reals. Thank you!!! I also wish we had a two floored Joanns like you do. /jealous
I love the red tag section of Jo-Anns... although I rarely find anything... Btw the coupons on the APP and the Website are different.. sometimes it is worth to check both.. Although the website normally is better. ~Sara
I find myself on the fence with joanns. Possibly because of my location and the particular store that happens to be in my area, but I find their selection of fabric very limited. Also the fact that they categorize fabric my use and not weave (seriously, there is nothing more annoying than trying to tell the difference between polyester and cotton blends, or lycra and spandex)
You're amazing, it is so nice to give advice to cosplayers! I'm making my Altaïr (Assassin's Creed I) costume so I appreciate this and all your other videos.
I'm ridiculously lucky!!! The fabric stores in my city all donate there out of season or older fabrics to the thrift store. I find quality fabric for literally a dollar a yard. This would kill my pocket.
From my experience where I live, I know that larger Joann stores will have classes, but the one I work at is too small and there isn't one that offers classes close by. However, there is a sew and vac shop down the street from my work that does offer classes that we'll often refer people to. That's my two cents, anyway.
i feel like you help me alot with my cosplay life. i'd been hoping to cosplay for a while and i always go to you for major help. there are many cons near me in the summer. And i can't wait to cosplay as pikachu. thank you Sirene. : 3 have a kawaii day!
I will definitely bring coupons and references to Joann's next time I go cosplay supply shopping! xD I'll also do the same for Hobby Lobby. Just 'cause I love that store.
dude YES it is so weird to shop for cosplay. I did it with a friend recently and we spent over two hours at walmart and I only came out with a zipper, some fabric, and a pair of shoes. that's it.
Ty enjoy the videos and looking to see more . Been in to anime and art for yrs. Plus started to go to conventions. Planning to do my first cosplay at Wizard World comic con 2016. As Agil from Sword Art online ! Oh plan to take my wife to her first con.
From watching your vids im guessing you are around the MI area. I will be going to the con in May at Suburban for my first time whooo! (after being a secret nerd with this stuff) I have a original piece for myself and im working on my little brothers costume so he can be blankman. I will be there Friday and Saturday. I hope to see you there!
do you have any tips on buying glasses for cosplay, because a lot of characters have very specific glasses and it's hard to find them, any suggestions?
Im new to making my own cosplays and was going to make my own Damian Wayne Robin outfit thinking of using pleather for the gloves and possibly tunic. Whats the reason in not ussing pleather? I know it can be hot to wear but is there another reason?
Oh my godddd where is this Jo-ann? I know you're from MI and the one closest to me is Allen Park which is decent, but a two story Jo-Ann?? I need to make a trip to this one T_T
I love how you wear a different in each of your videos. Makes it hard to guess your natural hair color. How do you make your wigs look so natural on you?
The majority of my recent videos are my natural hair! C: As for making wigs look natural, there's a ton of videos and tutorials online about how to properly wear a wig, a quick Google search should help! :3
+PrincessLelouch You can actually use a lot of coupons. As long as you have items that are not on sale, you can apply coupons to those items. When they say you cannot combine coupons, they mean that you may not use multiple coupons on the same item. Example: You could buy 4 things. The first item is on sale so you cannot use a coupon for that. The other three are not on sale. You could use 3 different coupons to buy your other three items. You just need coupons with different bar codes. This is why a lot of people love the Coupon Commotion or Firefly Frenzie etc sales that JoAnns does throughout the year. The sale flyers they send in the mail will have maybe 15 coupons and you can use all of them as long as it's on different items.
Your friend said Utapri and I kept thinking that you looked very lowkey Nanami in this video and it's adorable xD! Also made me wonder if yall cosplayed Utapri?
I try to make sure that if i do make a trip to Joann's i never leave the house with out coupons and if i forget the ones i get in the mail i always have the ones on my phone 😁
When she was talking about the organization jacket, in like 'funny I'm cosplaying xion next summer' and I didn't plan on buying shinny fabric for the coat
OMFG I LOVE ALL THE CHARACTERS THAT YOU TWO WILL BE COSPLAYING quick question for all those people who live in the uk, What is a good fabric shop to go to in the uk? Thanks ^,^
They are online stores, but I buy most of my fabric from Minerva Crafts and Abakhan. They deliver really quickly and although the latter can get a tad expensive, they have really good quality fabric and lots of other craft supplies
omg I wish there were joanns in Canada, here I have to rely on overpriced michaels and well I live relatively close to a very nice fashion district but still. Joanns seems like the perfect one stop fun shop. ;-;
Planning is you friend.
made the mistake last night was near the store and on a whim thought "Hmmm What could it hurt?"
NWCountryGirl17 yep and my lord it is easy to overspend
I did that one time and my mom had to go somewhere afterward so she was hurrying me up the whole time and my anxiety kicked in 😂
A two story JoAnns?! Where does this magical place reside!!!!!!!
Ikr take me there
Dat crack in my windshield tho. o_O
Random comment:
That lip color suits you SUPER nicely. ;)
I could spend an entire week in a 2 story Joanns... I already willingly spent 4hrs in a normal one until my mom made me leave.
Omg, I would totally sink into this shop and they will have to search for me with some rescue team. I could spend hours in my favourite haberdashery, but THIS! This must be paradise. Btw, the blue fabric with flowers at 2:01 would be just perfect for a kimono I'm dreaming of. :)
Can we find a reason to use this please? Me every time I walk into Jo-ann's.

IKR. I’m like 🤩🤩🤩🤩
I made curtains for my room out of the penguin fabric.
You have without a doubt the best curtains ever
"Don't even shop. If you get there without coupons, leave." Amazing words of wisdom.
I went to JoAnn with a friend to get fabric for a prom dress and remembered my coupons (and figured out when the sales were) the original price for her fabric was approximately $170 but she only paid about $48
This is why I LOVE coupons!

I can relate so much :D
Would be damn nice if there are stores like this in my country... :(

Sirene, during March break I went to Toronto Comic Con and I copslayed as Korra from TLOK, and your cosplay 101 helped me so much. Thank you!
I would love to learn how to make my own cosplay one day! But for now, just gonna buy them. ;)
Also noted, never buy the pleather and suede cloth.
I've been searching for a Yona tutorial and even just that tiny little snippet of you looking at supplies for earrings helped. Bless.
This channel is my spirit animal.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I signed up for my first convention today and I needed tips for my monomi cosplay!
Man I wish I had something like joann's in my area
You and me to. Best I can do locally is Wal-Mart and Michael's.
You're amazing, it is so nice to give advice to cosplayers! I'm making my Altaïr (Assassin's Creed I) costume so I appreciate this and all your other videos.
I also love rei you guys!!! Rei and Nagisa are another otp!
I'm ridiculously lucky!!! The fabric stores in my city all donate there out of season or older fabrics to the thrift store. I find quality fabric for literally a dollar a yard. This would kill my pocket.
Chihiro is a great character! Yay!
AHHHH OMG I NEED TO SEE ALL THE FINISHED PRODUCTS-- ESPECIALLY REIIII
This was so helpful I'm super excited for my first cosplay as Freya from FF9 😀
The tassel is what I used for my Yonna cosplay too! lol Right when you said you were looking for her earrings I was hoping you would get that lol
Yay! Another cosplay 101. I plan on making a new cosplay very soon... Probably Nico Yazawa.
Wonderful advice~ this will really help me out in the near future! allssoo YOURE GOING TO COSPLAY YONA!?!? YOU WOULD MAKE A BEAUTIFUL YONA 😍😍
I love your hair uvu & this actually was really helpful thank you !
I literally just went through the same exact process a week ago doing research for my upcoming cosplays. TOUCH ALL THE THINGS.
I am a beginner at cosplaying with no experience sewing. Do you have any advice on how to get started sewing?
Check out her cosplay 101 video Intro to sewing.

A good sewing channel is Professor Pincushion
Start small like fixing a button or a small cushion for pins.
loved this, helpful and entertaining
Omg yona! I love that Anime but no one else knows about it! You're gonna look so great ^3^
Thank you so much this help me me out now. Because I'm a Beginner and I know idea what I was doing so this help me out a lot

I remember my first time going into to Joann's and just gawking at the fabric (I'm just starting on cosplay this year LOL)
I will definitely bring coupons and references to Joann's next time I go cosplay supply shopping! xD I'll also do the same for Hobby Lobby. Just 'cause I love that store.
wow...your Joanns is so big! I'm jelly omg lol
Hi Mango! I love you soo much ^__^ your videos are awesome!
WHAAAAAAAAAA!!!!! YOU'RE GONNA BE YONA I'M FREAKING OUT OMGOSH!
Do you happen to have the fabric number for the pokemon fabric? It should be on the receipt, but if you don't have it that's okay ^_^
Thanks for vid, Sirene ❤️❤️ (:
Have you thought of doing any armor Coldplay 101s yet?
That👏👏gdragon👏👏hoodie👏👏👏👏👏
dude YES it is so weird to shop for cosplay. I did it with a friend recently and we spent over two hours at walmart and I only came out with a zipper, some fabric, and a pair of shoes. that's it.
I'm so jealous of your Joann OMG! My local one is so small and messy all the time.

Hey I'm making a Chihiro cosplay too!!! Spirited Away is my favorite movie!!
do you have any tips on buying glasses for cosplay, because a lot of characters have very specific glasses and it's hard to find them, any suggestions?
Hey mangosirene. I need to make a sailor Venus hair bow. How type of ribbon should I use?
Good video! This really helped

Hi! I was just wondering where a good place would be to buy cosplay online from ?
Im making an assassin cosplay outfit but almost everything is leather and red velvet kind of so what fabric do you recommend etc
Woahhh! The Jo-Ann's in my area is so tiny; I'm going to search really hard for that pokemon fabric now~ ^_^
Where is this Joanne's!?!?!?!
I love how you wear a different in each of your videos. Makes it hard to guess your natural hair color. How do you make your wigs look so natural on you?

Oh my gosh your Jo-ann's is huge! Mine is tiny like every other store in my mall.
Where do you get your wigs for daily wear?
Oh that was so freaky, that’s my mall! I know that Joann’s like the back of my hand 😅
Omg where did you get that wig? :o
Your friend said Utapri and I kept thinking that you looked very lowkey Nanami in this video and it's adorable xD! Also made me wonder if yall cosplayed Utapri?

uk isnt really very good for coupons, or even decent craft shops, well where i live ;3;
When she was talking about the organization jacket, in like 'funny I'm cosplaying xion next summer' and I didn't plan on buying shinny fabric for the coat
I must know where this Joanns is!!!!
OMFG I LOVE ALL THE CHARACTERS THAT YOU TWO WILL BE COSPLAYING
quick question for all those people who live in the uk,

They are online stores, but I buy most of my fabric from Minerva Crafts and Abakhan. They deliver really quickly and although the latter can get a tad expensive, they have really good quality fabric and lots of other craft supplies
OMG I love yona but sadly soo-wan is my least fav character! My otp is yona and hak!!
Where the heck do you guys live??? That is a freaking HUGE Joann's!!!!!!
I wish there are stores like that in Belgium! I only know rather small fabric stores, with only very basic old-lady-sewing supplies :/
Tis is really cute.
I needed to know this thx
Can you consider making a cosplay 101 for photo shoots, the "home made" and the professional?
Sadly we don't have Joans in England, best we have is Hobbycraft or Boyes :(
I need that Pokemon fabric in my life.
WAIT A MINUTE WERE YOU GUYS AT THE JO-ANNS IN MICHIGAN BECAUSE I THINK I MIGHT'VE SEEN YOU!! WERE YOU GUYS WEARING SHORTS?!??👉
Wait is Joann's only in the US?
I just realized how much it sucks to not cosplay in Los Angelese, San Fran, or New York or any other major city because fabric/fashion districts. :o
Baillie Puckett Michigan's got a pretty good supply of Joanns though, so it's not terrible. XD
But I can only imagine how expensive it can get!!! :O at least there are a lot of joanns. Better than none, I guess.
Baillie Puckett yeah but luckily for the rest of us there is their website
Joann's has a coupon app with all their available and valid coupons!
I've never been to a Joannes because I live in the US, but we do have a Michael's with is very similiar to this.
Someone Super Kawaii Joannes is in America
i live in the uk and its mostly small independent craft stores.
People ask me where do you see yourself in 5 years - Cosplay shopping.
I love yona
Good god and I thought our joann's was big!!
omg I wish there were joanns in Canada, here I have to rely on overpriced michaels and well I live relatively close to a very nice fashion district but still. Joanns seems like the perfect one stop fun shop. ;-;
What Joanns was this? o:
