Thank you all so very much!
The groove at the end is jazzy blue Jason. Thank you for the lesson.
Jason, you actually made me feel hopeful about the chromatic. I was starting to think I had wasted my money on this thing, but I was wrong. You gave me a map for going forward with this instrument. Thank you for that
THATS AWESOME! Keep at it just stick to basic blues scale stuff at first then expand. You GOT this I'll make a new one soon thank you!
"Broken Toy" is the most moving song. It's the centerpiece of "Done With The Devel." Moves me to tears. Thanks for all the great music!
Picked up a 270 a few weeks ago. Always looking for funky new colors for the crayon box and have been wanting to try a chromatic for a long while. Thanks for the jump start and helping demystify. You always do and thank goodness for that. You rock, brother.
It was great explanation, loved it, expecting more simple lessons for a beginner ♥️2
More to come! I think k I'm going to make a beginners series.
Thanks brother, You are a monster player and you are so kind to break it down like that. You are a good teacher Jason. God bless you man. I've been playing for 30 plus years on diatonic and just now starting to work the chromatic in..thanks for the help man.
Thank you. I just started on the chromatic. I'm digging the flat fives
Graeat Jason like ussually. Cheers from Asturias in the north of Spain. You are a Big musician. Thank you for the lessons.
Manuel
Thanks Jason. I am just getting into Chrom as well and this helps trainloads. This harp has a very unique sound and you cannot hear the slide at all - nice action. I saw Clint Hoover in the mid 80's playing a CX which has a very unique sound as well. This is the neat thing about Chroms they all have their own sound where as the Diatonics all sound nearly the same with a few exceptions of coarse. Much of the tone has to do with the player as well. Peace and thanks again.
Great Harp sound!!! Thanks for the tips.
Thanks for the video I have an old hohner super chromatic. I have a blast playing it. Thanks for everything..
Superb! I just bought my first one today. I'll keep watching bro.
Excellent I had the pleasire of meeting you in Co Springs - Magic Dave - God Bless you - great work!
Magic Dave is INCREDIBLE!!!!! Thank you!
Love the last minute... nice
Thank ⚜️ You ❤️
amazing and wonderful for harmonica players like me.
I know its been a long time since this video was put up but, Jason you are a fantastic player and an inspiration to me. Keep playing and teaching man!
« I know its been a long tume since this video was put up » It's weird to read this kind of thing 8 years later, like thinking about everything that's happened since 2013 ...
LOVE YOUR SLIDE FLUTTERS!
Really nice presentation. I think this is going to open it up for me. Thanks so much!
on I think his first self-produced album he had one tune 'Cuttin' with the Button'...a chromatic number. Of course he didn't think it was good enough. That's Jason for you. Now he also plays a chord harmonica..and is doing amazing things on it, backing up other diatonic players at SPAH... extremely cool. He has an amazing ear and will probably eventually play every type of harmonica out of curiosity ...or sheer stubbornness. I'm waiting for him to take up the violin one of these days ;)
I played that model at SPAH... One of the nicest chroms out there...
Man, I've been playing diatonic for a good 12 years, I'd like to think I'm decent, but guys who can jam across chords on the chromatic always impress. Thank you for these educational videos and all your fabulous music.
wow i was wondering if you played Chromatic at all so i just looked it up and found this
Amazing blues fusion playing. Talent
You are just a World Class Blues artist, Blues is just in Your blood... Amazing how You get "the feeling"...
Blues is not in my blood, I'm Not a fan of blues but... I'm VERY Impressed!!!
A Practical question, if You're answering; You simply Must go through some reeds the way You play "to the Max"... Any idea where Earthlings like me could get some spare reeds (not reed-plates, just the little metal strips themselves..)
Thanks for reading, Success with your Tours and stuff!!!!
Great video. I picked up some nice tips. Thanks Jason
Wow, great stuff Jason, thanks.
Hey man, love this video! I own a Larry Adler Pro 16 chromatic, and being new to chromatic harmonica, I was having trouble getting used to the note layout. But after watching your video, I've been practicing the pentatonic scale with the slider added in and not only am I now getting the hang of using the slider in my freestyle melodies, I'm playing a really cool melody that I love to play. Thanks man!
Beautiful ❤️!!!
woah I wish I learn to play like that someday!!! I'll keep on practicing..... amazing!
I have a Swan 1664 Chromatic. Will practice this.
loved that peice at the end, sound mate..
cool vid. i hope to hear more chromatic playing from you.
You are a genius!
Cool stuffs. Thanks!
Don't you dare rest in peace as well like the others you mention at the beginnning. This world needs you.
your keeping it real Jason why to go . I have Suzuki 48 Bb ordered supposed to be here today ...I want to know where each note is ...chromatic scale ... Bb 12 hole Chromatic .. appreciate your videos ..good stuff . You Rock ...
Thank you so much for this! Inspiring! :)
NICE PLAYING !
i have the same harmonica and not sure how to use it at all, i hope i learn from this video
fun runs, practice makes perfect, indeed. thanks!
Kevin Coleman Thank you 4 Watching! A Moon Cat Love and Appreciate You too!!! Keep rocking!
come back Jason. Where are you? I want to play blues on my G48W. However the high end notes don't work, out of the box new! How do I fix them without putting it out of tune. It was shipped to me from Japan via their new agent in Bangkok. 'Dont want to send it back to Japan. (I live in Pattaya Thailand). I love the dark tone of the Gregoire Maret and I am delighted to find that there are other guys out there like me. You are an inspiration. Keep up your TH-cam presence. Thanks mate.
Nice stuf Jason!!

Thank you for your lesson, j like also to play on chromatic, for jazz. j prefer diatonic for the blues, but now j gonna try your exercises.
Wow! Wee! man you sho nuff be jammin keep up the good stuff, and please do more of your chromatic instruction if you don't mind.
Thanks for this effective lesson!
I think I'll start on one of those when I finally get the diatonic style down. I've seen chromatics used for really good classical music stuffs, so that has my interest. O.o
cool, i didn´t know a slide harmonica...nice to meet you....
I LOVE THIS!!!!!!!
Thank You for your reply Elizabeth. I don't go through many harmonicas and I have no "junkers" laying about, and going to the manufacturer of my harmonica, Suzuki, it's virtually impossible to purchase the reeds Only, and I find it a total waste to spend a small fortune on spare reed-plates when I might only need the odd reed or two occasionally. Still, Thank You for Your ideas, I will keep hunting.
@kazhilly actually, most people who replace reeds take them off 'junkers', or order extra reeds directly from the manufacturers. There are lots of TH-cam vids and other info out there on how to make a reed fit (how to gap and tune them, etc).
Hi!
You're really 'honkin' on that harp!
It appears to be 'very tight'......Is it box stock or 'touched(tightened-up) up' by you?
Nice presentation and learning tool!
Thanks!
Hello, you are a very good teacher. Is it any possible to go a little bit slower with your harmonica ? Thank you .
Yes! I NEED to keep that in mind thank you for the reminder!
To dumb it way down, he is offering a friendly hello/goodbye but more meaningful.
Great stuff I Subbed thnx
I guess you learn something new every day! :)
Thanks for the clarifycation! :)
Have a nice day, week, month, year, decade, life! :)
@ElizabethGS Ok, thx for clearing that up! :D
@miloesskater try Howard Levy. He doesn't need any button on the end of his iron . . .
Interesting.
beautifull !!
laurent maur Thanks bro!
@SavantSvant: it means 'you're very welcome' :)
yw would be just: 'you're welcome'.
And I should clarify: He actually said 'that's Weed' ...but quickly, which is why you thought you heard 'Swede'.
Excellent video.🌚🐈⬛93
Hey Jason, when r u coming to Oz ?
hi jason.. can you please help with note bending on a chromatic harmonica c key... with a video upload or just text which ever you feel comfortable
awesome video, thx, started chromatic too.....its alot harder to me, then my diatonics......
liked your red n black hair better, lol...dont mind...
Danny
@miloesskater That's why real harmonica fans have both!
great stuff dude, thanks for the inspiration to try the chromatic. i've got a ten hole, not a twelve, is that ok to get going with?? i'm a diatonic man thus far, but it seems i'm perhaps limiting the possiblities sticking to the blues harp.....however , when keith switched to open G tuning with five strings, he said that something about lessening the tools, opened up the possibilities....
Great....Just one thing..Is there any way to get rid of the clicks made by slide hitting stop?
This is a very interesting and informative video... but I think that I'm going to stick with the diatonic harp for blues. The chromatic harp doesn't seem to have as much "stank" on it as a diatonic one.
What does the akronym yvw mean, im sorry but i don't know!?
Good!
Hi Jason !
I didn't that you play also chromatic !!!
Hi,
I'm a bit confused ... you talk about octaves and covering two holes in the middle but apart from the c note blow all octaves on the cromatic are 5 holes apart. So do you play real octaves or the 5ths and 6ths you get with the two covered holes? I can't seem to open my mouth wide enough to put it over 5 holes but on my crappy PC speakers it sounds like you do ... hmmm
great playing and very helpful videos ...THANKS A LOT!
Oh my 🤩😆😍
So what's up with the tattoos ? I couldn't find your videos and i'm curious.
COOL
Did he say "Swed" when she walked by?
@silvermediastudio
nothing to it--just base the chords on the bottom group of draw notes and then push in the slide and do the same thing--you'll automatically be in the 2nd key which will be 1/2 step higher. Playing Dm (dorian mode) blues on a chromatic harp is probably the easiest blues style to play on any type of harmonica. You simply push in the slide and you'll be playing in Ebm (again--the Dorian Mode).
This guy can really play. On the other hand, this tutorial kind of "blows." LOL
the parts that dont blow suck......XD, nah this guy is awesome
Like, share and subscribe.
G48.. $700 instrument. Ouch. I'll stick with my Hohner Super Chromonica. A relative bargain at $150 haha.
Great tut.
why does my first three holes/notes sound like a cat being tortured?! any advice?
Cool. Not completely sure why more Chromatic Blues players don't use the button like Stevie. For me , thats the only way I can play it. Thanks
Ray Navarrette Thank you 4 Watching! A Moon Cat Love and Appreciate You too!!! Keep rocking!
@thedebtsettler
I try not to worry about how many drugs someone else is taking.
And anyway, what you hear when Jason plays is hard work and inspiration, not dope.
@adeelies..wrong again. It is NOT a 'satanic' symbol. (What's a satonist btw?) Again..READ what he writes on the subject before sounding off about a subject you don't understand. He discusses this on his blogs and website. J is very intelligent and well read. Perhaps you might become a bit more so?
IF you're talking about the pentacle or pentagram, why don't you look up the difference between what it means when it's upright (as in his case) or upside down. :)
he said 'Weed'...as Buckweed (Todd's nickname) walked by.
I can see some guy in a fedora and trenchcoat walking by a streetlight in the rain....
yeah1
Like
try not to breath in or out to hard find the balance dont go messin with the reeds pretty sure the company who made it did all that its not the first one they built . relax breath in and out normal than go from there till u hear the note
I take it you don't smoke. It sure seems like it takes a lot of wind to play the chromatic harp.
hey Jrbr, I was still smoking 22 years ago when I started playing harmonica professionally. Then I ended up with a band that made me sing half the songs, followed by a band where I sang all the songs! I sounded like Kermit the Frog with my cigarette smoke swollen sinuses. So I quit. Thank God! Now I don't get winded like I used to get. I still sing like crap but.,. oh well. At least I won't get COPD or lung CA.
"I'm not very good on this thing" he says.
To be honest, I thought the thumbnail looked like Gordon Ramsey playing the harmonica.
Oh hahahaha 😂
killer dia player shit on chrom
ras.
Everything you do is fine, but that harmonica sounds like it's inside a shoe box.tried a hohner?
I suggest you learn to play one note at a time.. Your mouth will adapt.. may great lessons here to learn. Holding the harmonica lower lip barely on harmonica and the upper lip way forward.. easier to blow and suck one note at a time.. Need a quality harmonica Key C or G...Lots to do with the quality of notes,,. also good players can make a cheap one sound great.. PRACTICE..That's what I'm doing..
Good luck
