Front D44 Wheel Hub: Disassembly

  • I detail the steps in disassembling the front hub on the D44 front axle in my 1987 Jeep J-20. The procedure is the same for all Full-size Jeeps from 1974-1991, as well as for the squarebody K-10 and K-10 Chevy/GMC pickups.

    at 10:22 to 10:41 you mentioned two seals and a washer.. do you have part numbers for them? I can not find them anywhere thanks and great vid!

      I added the part-numbers for the seals in the Description in the Assembly video (linked at the end of this video).
      The Jeep Part # for the washer is #83501113, and it is listed in the parts book as a "spacer"

    How do I remove axle shaft or dose it just pull it

      Once you have removed the spindle, you can pull the axleshaft-assembly straight out.

    What size was that socket you were using?

      I used a four-prong socket like the PT W1269; I like the design with the collar that locates the socket securely on the nut. I guess it measures 2 1/4", but most places just list it as a "D44 four-prong" socket:
