This is 'the' BEST video on suspension geometry...Thanks a lot ! (I worked as an automotive diagnostic equipment service engineer for years, and i know what i'm talking about) Please do videos like this and don't worry about the length of the video... its good info...
This is the best video about suspension geometry I've seen so far. Really helpful how you actually showed the effects of different adjustments in geometry!
You did way more than just your homework! Your explainations combined with your geometry animations make a complex and mostly "hidden" part of your car unterstandable for every level of car enthusiast!
This is really good stuff. Steering/suspension geometry is one of the hardest things for me to understand conceptually as someone with no real practical automotive or engineering experience, just an interest. I'd love to build a little sports car like your own someday, it seems so cost effective for the amount of thrill you get.
Just check miata forums, craigslist and autotrader. A miata with aftermarket suspension parts and wide wheels/tires can be had for $5k on up. The most economic, reliable fun you can have on four wheels. If you can DIY even replacement engines and trans are dirt cheap.
Okay, so let me tell you how helpful this video was. This is the most helpful video on suspension that I found on TH-cam so far. I am 35 years old and I am a life long learner. This has been the most amount of education I have received in such a short time in years. Thank you so much for this. It is Thanksgiving evening and I'm lonely and I am drunk and I am watching videos and suspension and this was such a joy to watch.
Just came up in my feed as "recommended" Glad I checked it out. I've learned more about terminology and the mechanics of steering in this one video than anything else I've watched. New subscriber!
Man you are a great teacher; you can take a learner from zero to pro. That's an incredible skill that not much teachers have. Your explanation is so clear and simple that a beginner can understand, and your understanding and fluency is so good even going into advanced concepts. I'm not even gonna start talking about the great animation and the amount of work and dedication you put in that, but man that's a master piece. I'd like to thank you on behalf of the world!
This is the most complete and easy to digest TH-cam video on suspension geometry I have seen yet. Thank you for including all of Caster's effects as well as reminding us about the pros and cons of KPI.
This video helped so much, thank you. The shopping cart example was amazing, and I know know why more positive caster can lead to more negative camber when cornering!
Simply amazing. The steering geometry can be quite difficult, but thanks for teachers like you, we get to learn and apply what we learned. this is a must if we want to keep our tires rolling properly and helps us on the tire tread wear. Thank you SK8215.
This is a fantastic video. I've been racing for decades, and have read many books on suspension geometry, but do not consider myself a master of the topic. You are, and this video brought it together in a way I haven't found elsewhere. Great job. I appreciate your efforts.
I had an awful positive camber on the left front tyre that was causing excessive wear on the outside of the tyre, this was so extreme that the tyre ended up with a conical shape, I rotate the tires inside out to compensate wear but it messed with the straight line response the car is now turning left and I have to compensate, a camber correction was made at the alignment shop and I wanted to understand more about the steering and suspension angles, this video was the best I've found about it. Thanks!
I don't know who you are but you really understand what your talking about. I learned more from this video than I have from all the others on the same topic. Your graphics were extra work but so clearly illustrates what you are explaining. Fantastic. I would like to spend some time with you and my son with his race car. Thank you for posting this.
Yeah ! Great diagrams and explanations. I just went to a motorcycle meeting, and I have a background in cycling. I owned a few suspension bikes, and could not get them working properly. I previously decided to invest in a really good BMX, that's all. But, looking at the motorcycles. It was odd to see. Large rear tyres, tyres with an odd shape, and weird orientation of the springs. I read today motorcycles have 57 x more accidents than cars ! Yet, they're a lot cheaper. I might save money through investing in some skill hopefully.
I've always had a basic overview of these things but every time I attempted to delve in deeper it became confusing. This is by far the best explanation of steering geometry I have seen. Thanks for making the effort to put this video together.
This video is very good. Makes things very clear. One thing needs to be added; That high positive caster is better for high speed stability, that's why the German cars and cars with German designed suspensions (Chrysler 300/Magnum/Charger/Challenger, to name a few) have the high caster.
Thank you SO much for this video! GREATEST Chassis geometry education I have seen. 10 years ago this was sacred information that only the best race teams knew about and closely garded secrets. THANKS FOR SHARING THIS INFO.!!!
We should pay for watching a seminar like this!!! KPI??? Caster??? Wtf were these? Now I know almost everything!!! Wish I knew these when on track... Thanks. A LOT.
Mannnnnn... You have explain me like a boss, your video allow me to understand much better than my six months in a stupid class in the college. Excellent video!!!
You don't do the stupid videos for mass, but intellectually satisfying, well prepared and explained material for enthusiast, so please don't worry about the length of the video. I don't even know when those 20 minutes went and it was over.
Wow. I have been playing racing games and driving cars fast for a long time. This short video is the first time I actually understand what all these suspension settings mean, why to change them for certain driving personalities and what the reason behind their geometries are. Instant Sub!
@@ScienceBitch123 such is life aye... It is true, cause I know the math side of it, masters nor undergrad had animated version of suspension breakdown. So still great ful for the work.
Great stuff. I sure wish this clear information and graphics were available when designing and racing back in the 1950-60s. Few people really understood more than a few basics, lots of tall tales and the rest was "Magic" that sometimes worked and other times got you in deep trouble. Looking forward to watching the next video, thanks for all the hard work you put into them.
You'd make a good teacher of suspension and steering. I am a retired ASE Master Tech and S&S was always my forte. If you notice my Avatar, I bought a 2004 Marauder and put $7000 worth of upgrades in it in about 3 years. KVR 14" front rotor kit, Metco polyurethane bushed rear control arms and watts links, QA1 dual adjustable racing shocks on all 4 corners, ADDCO 1-14" rear stabilizer bar, Torsen T2 differential, and MMX Metals' 200 mph driveshaft. Oh, and a second set of tires for racing, Nitto Street Drag Radials, the rears on widend rims. For a 4300 lb. police interceptor *interceptor,* Quicksilver (that's her name) is like a roller skate on a rail in the turns. I've often outrun those German sports cars on twisty roads, cars with 100-150 more horses than I've got, because I'm able to wait until the last millisecond to scrub off speed before the turn with massive braking power, come off the brake and hold the turn under high g-force, and exit the turn under WOT with that differentiating Torsen T2 (limited slip is the absolute WORST thing to have on your car in road racing). And it's been my understanding of the things you teach in this video that has helped me to make the proper upgrades to Quicksilver and make her such a pleasure to drive. To all you viewers who watched this video: pay attention to SK8215, he knows what he's talking about.
Absolutely amazing explanation. Will definitely send this video the next time a friend doesn't get camber/caster/toe/etc so I don't have to give lectures 😂
Honestly dude this is the best vid on suspension geometry I've ever seen. I've been looking for some time and I give you a big A+ for this vid. The diagrams are excellent. Now I finally get what the KPI angle is and how it relates to caster. I am new to tracking my RS and I want to understand what is being done regarding suspension adjustments. You cannot sort out your cars suspension without a comprehensive working knowledge of this stuff. Thanks for putting in the time to educate me in this area. Finally I see !! An epiphany :) Much thanks. I will now move on to Part 2. Cheers. Oh yeah - new sub :)
Great work. Very clear. I definitely learned much from this vid. This is the best explanation of suspension that I've seen. I'm not stupid but I have struggled with some of these concepts in the past and watching this I realized it's because in the past I was presented with the intended result of a particular modification, but not "why" or "how". You nailed it. Don't worry about the length; I appreciate that you're not "dumbing it down" .Complex topics take time. I'm happy that I've found someone who understands it to this level... AND has the ability to communicate it. Thanks so much for the quality content. Looking forward to watching all your videos. How did you become so knowledgeable about suspension ?
I seriously thought this video was gonna be super boring but I was wrong. I never knew how much all this stuff mattered. Good job on this video dude. Very well done.
Magnificent presentation. Really great presentation of these concepts in a way that was very easy to follow, and cleared out lots of black magic. Should be an obligatory part in school. Now why did 11 people give a thumb down? Tyre salesmen who wants the extra wear from incorrect settings???
" SIMPLICITY IS THE ULTIMATE LEVEL OF COMPLEXITY " Leonardo DaVinci. And here is a good example of how to explain something well and clear of a topic that is a mix of Art and Science
This is a fantastic video! I'm just looking into steering geometry and this brilliantly covers all of the parameters and details. Will be keeping this video as a technical reference manual. Thank you and keep it up!
You did awesome job in this video. I study suspension for years and one or two things didn't know. Keep up the good work and thank you for sharing your precious knowledge 👍🚗
So many people are lost with these issues. My 69 Nova only had 1 - 2 neg camber, but it had great negative ROLL with my upper a arm set up. My friends think that since the suspension is 40 - 50 years old design, it's garbage. LOL! Oh, and I was running 315-35r17 front .. 335-35r17 rear. Not a drag racer, but FWY & mountain roads were a blast............
Great video! I like the way you make comparisons between different scenarios even though they are not useful in real life. That's the way we can see the contrast of "pros & cons".
Great video, clear explanation and illustration! I have watched other videos on these topics but I didn't understand until I watched this video. Thank you very much for taking the time to make these great videos!
Please make more informative videos like this..this helps people who are studying automobile engineering and the way you are explaining is also good so please take into consideration
Very well made and informative video. This and Engineering Explain's videos help understand suspension geometry which is pretty much the most important part of handling expect for tires and other stuff

It's kinda funny that he seems to almost apologise for the video being too informative.. ;-)
totally agree!!!
He should get an editor and clip the video into pieces. 10 min videos are optimized for viewer attention and ad revenue!!

After all of the money you spend in custom parts the most cost effective option is a used Miata. Expect to spend at least $20,000.
Just check miata forums, craigslist and autotrader. A miata with aftermarket suspension parts and wide wheels/tires can be had for $5k on up. The most economic, reliable fun you can have on four wheels. If you can DIY even replacement engines and trans are dirt cheap.

Indeed. The part demonstrating the caster as it 'sinks into the ground' makes this the best video on suspension geometry out there.
This is the most complete and easy to digest TH-cam video on suspension geometry I have seen yet. Thank you for including all of Caster's effects as well as reminding us about the pros and cons of KPI.
The BEST Teacher! Wow, I'd no idea about any of these topics 20 mins ago and I feel I've learned something very important... Great job!

This is just golden! Provided me insights of how every parameter in suspension components work in conjunction with one another!
This is an excellent tutorial in suspension geometry. Its worth a few re-watches! Thanks for putting this out.
Outstanding explanation . I've watched a few videos,; yours has the clarity and conciseness I have not found elsewhere.
It's amazing how you explained geometry with showing aspects of real impact on driving. Great video 👍 much appreciated
I've always had a basic overview of these things but every time I attempted to delve in deeper it became confusing. This is by far the best explanation of steering geometry I have seen. Thanks for making the effort to put this video together.
This is straight up the best explaination I've ever found on YT. It's enough to make me over-confident and mess my car up
This has to be the very best explanation of steering geometry on TH-cam. Well done. Clear examples, good images, just great all around.
Fantastic video! 3d visualisation makes very easy to grasp the concepts
Thank you for providing this resource in such a clear and concise way.
I like the format and the way you explain, it's awesome, keep it up!

Very well explained video on geometry of steering. Scrub radius impressed me the most. Thanks.
Complicated engineering behind simple looking things.
The best 'why apply camber' explaination I've had so far
Very educational and easy to understans. Love your work

This was amazing, started working at ford as a suspension engineer and this is my bible now. Thank you and hope to see more videos.
Wait so they guy designing this stuff at Ford is learning from a good, but still zero math or engineering based TH-cam video? 😂

Stunning work on this video! Great knowledge base and graphics to demonstrate the concepts!
I'm building a front suspension right now, so this was very helpful. Thank you!
Great video, clear explanation and illustration!
I have watched other videos on these topics but I didn't understand until I watched this video. Thank you very much for taking the time to make these great videos!

Great job. Stretched my brain just the right amount, I only had to rewind a bit twice.
Simply awesome!! Great work man, keep it up
